Since it was now officially on the rule books that scaling up the side of the castle towers was forbidden, Drew had been left with little else to climb besides trees and the rocks behind the castle. He had found a good size one... not as big as Big Rock back at camp, but still good enough.
It was just after tea (which he really didn't have tea, but had eaten a hunk of cake and chased it with a butterbeer) and Drew stood at the base, looking up and planning his climb.

"What in the WORLD do you think you're doing?" a voice called down from above. Not atop the rocks, of course. Arianna had attempted that earlier and achieved nothing more than a scraped knee and torn jeans. The tree had been a bit easier to clamber up and that was where the girl now sat, high above the ground, yelling down at anyone who passed.

Nic walked a few distances away, but he heard someone yell at him and he started looking around to locate the voice. He jogged a few feet and came upon Drew. "Drew dawg did you hear a feminine voice? I swear some broa...girl was just yellin at me for takin a walk." Nic shook his head.

"Climbing..." Drew answered Ari's distinctive voice as Nic came up. He pointed up to the tree where he assumed Ari was hiding. At least that was where he had heard the voice had come from.

"That don't look like climbing," Arianna riposted, though she imagined the boy was doing so inside his head. Leaning forward on her branch, she rest her head in her hands and gazed down at the two boys. The branch was wide enough to hide most of her body if she lay just right, but she wasn't and her legs could be seen dangling below her.

"Well, I'm not climbing yet," Drew answered impatiently rolling his eyes. Did he have to explain the importance of planning things out yet AGAIN to her?
He turned to Nic and nodded to the rock. "You climb?" he asked.

There was no answer in return as Arianna made her way down the tree, sending a few birds flying and shaking a few leaves off the thinnest branches. She landed at the base of the trunk, pants and shirt torn and dirty, smudges of mud over her arms.
"I can see that, silly," she teased. Arianna paused beside the boys and stared up to the top of the rock. "You got a plan yet? Cuz I can't get past that little ridge right there." She pointed to a very small ledge just a foot above her outstretched hand.

Nic looked up to where Drew had pointed and gasped. That cute asian chick was high in the tree. Real high in the tree. Drew had asked Nic if he climbed, but the only thing Nic had climbed was fences and trees weren't always around his hood. Nic couldn't help staring as Ari slid down the tree and started talking about climbing little Mt. Everest. "So that's what you meant when you said they couldn't handle two of you."

"What? Because I like to climb?" Arianna asked, snorting at the idea. In her opinion, there were many other things that could make her hard to keep up with or deal with and climbing came nothing close to any of them. "Yeah, sure. Could you imagine trying to keep TWO of me out of the trees?"

Drew smirked at the exchange between the two, but was more focused on the rock before him. Gripping onto a jagged outcropping just above his head, he pulled himself up until his foot could find a hold about a yard off the ground.

"Now, shush," Arianna poked Nic in the side as she scolded him though he had yet to speak again. The girl then pointed up at the Ravenboy who had just begun his ascent.
"He's climbing," she whispered as though the whole event was some great secret they should keep between themselves. "I like this part. He always makes it."

Nic shook his head. He was going to explain because thus far she wasn't like the other females he's encountered, but he was shush and though usually he wouldn't listen he couldn't figure out why he had to shut up. He watched Drew with a puzzled expression and briefly wondered why he was here and what his father has gotten him into. These KIDS are crazy!

Drew made it to the first ledge in quick time and scanned the rock for the next leg of his climb. satisfied with the progress he was making, he turned to the other two. "Who's coming?" he asked, bending down to offer a hand up.

Nicolae shook his head. He wasn't climbing no rocks. What kind of Indiana Jones, Evil KaNieval crap was this. "Naw, you and Wonder Woman go ahead. This ain't my cup of tea." Nicolae could not believe this. Just wait til he went home and told the boyz. Rock climbing. Rock climbing!

{Indiana Jones, I'll take, but Evil Kenevil? *barf*}
"More like Mighty Mouse," Drew teased, throwing a grin down at Ari as he re-offered his hand to her. "It's not that hard... really," he insisted, not trying to goad the other boy, just trying to assure him.
