The old groundkeeper's hut was closed up and a note was tacked to the door.
Class will be held in the pens today. Please stay outside of the fence until you are told otherwise.
The professor had a few qualms about this particular lesson being taught at this particular time, but decided that she would go on as planned. She was fully confident that her students would do well.

Pat walked down to the old groundkeeper's hut only to find it with a note on the door. "Class at the pens today, huh?" he said to himself; he then walked around the hut and made his way to the pens.
Pat neared the pens, but didn't bother looking to see what was inside them just yet. "I'll just wait for everyone else then," he said to himself. He leaned against the nearest tree, and looked toward the castle, waiting for someone to show up.

Anna walked outside for Care of magical creatures toward the old gamekeepers hut. Upon her arrival, she found a note attached to the door saying that class would be in the pens. "Wonder what could be in there that she doesn't want us in the pen." she thought to herself.
When she finally arrived at the pens, she found Patrick leaning against a tree. "Hey Patrick." she greeted. "Guess we're the only two here so far."

Lauren walked into the class, sitting down. She noticed that there was nobody else around. Looking around, she noticed a note. It directed her somewhere else, and she followed it. There, she saw to other students. Well, that's better, she thought. She walked over to Anna, knowing her a bit better than Patrick.
"Hey Anna," she greeted softly.

Cris slowly made his way to Care of Magical Creatures. The one Professor that was familiar and she had to be Davenport.
He arrived after reading the note and was getting familiar to the usual site of not seeing a single soul he knew. He lounged against a tree trunk and started turning the leaves different colors with his wand to pass the time. Some turned into an autome ornage while others into a bright green-yellow dot.
"When in Heaven's name did this school get so boring?", thought Cris to himself.

As the small class gathered, Becca came around the edge of the stable, leading Darkwing on a tether. "I thank you, ladies and gentlemen for being prompt as well as for following directions," she announced as she looked over the students.
... And saw the Huffle boy under the tree. Great Merlin... he had to stick with my class. She suddenly felt a slight headache coming on but pushed it aside for the time being.
"I'd like to introduce you to Darkwing," she told the class. "He is a hippogriff I have raised from a hatchling and he will be the subject of our last class this year."

"Hey Lauren." Anna greeted her fellow third year. Right after she spoke, Prof. Davenport came out holding a hippogriff, at least that what Davenport said it was. " That's wicked!" she thought to herself when she saw it. "Are we going to be able to get closer to him professor?" she asked.

Cris's right eyebrow shot up. "Darkwing......a hippogriff.....Darkwing. What in Heaven's name is that woman thinking? And what on Earth kind of a name is Darkwing", thought Cris to himself.
"Professor, I for one am content with just studying deadly creatures as opposed to actually interacting with them", said Cris matter of factly.
Truth be known, it wasn't just the hippogriff that was bothering him. Just looking at the thing brought up those awful memories of being pulled underwater and not being able to breath for four minutes, before he finally lost conscience. He couldn't be near something like that so soon, he just couldn't. Course, he wouldn't let Davenport know that. For her to see even the slightest weakness in him would mean to alter their relationship. She'd have him and he wasn't about to let that happen.
He quickly whiped off the fear from his face and the terror in his eyes that initially came at the site of the thing and looked just under Davenport's eyes, not ready to give her even a clue of what was going through his mind.

"A hippogriff..." Patrick said to himself. His eyes widened as the hippogriff, Darkwing, was brought toward them; Pat had never seen a hippogriff before, but he'd read about them, and knew quite a bit about them too. Pat heard the boy next to him speak, and he turned him. He looked like a Hufflepuff, around his own age, but Pat hadn't met him. Responding to the boy's comment, Pat said, "Don't worry, man; he won't be dangerous unless you mess with him." Personally, Pat was delighted at the prospect of this lesson.

"He's all yours then", said Cris as he leaned back even harder on the tree, needing something to keep him standing up, else he knew his legs would give out on them. A quick flashback came on just to leave again in no time flat. He shook his head, trying to get a grip on himself. He wouldn't do this, not in the eyes of anyone else. He wouldn't let a soul know how weak the whole ordeal made him.
"Seriously, I'll let the nurse know to expect you dude", he said as he turned another leaf a split between canary yellow and black.
An idea poped into his head that he needed to remember to figure out latter. Learning how to put the Hufflepuff Coast of Arms on objects. Nifty way of branding the school. He'd definatly have to try that latter.

Pat smiled, and nearly laughed at the boy's statement. Looking at the hippogriff in front of him, he said, "You don't need to do that for me. I certainly hope I don't disrespect Darkwing here; if I do, we'll build that bridge when we come to it." Pat turned back toward the other Hufflepuff, and realized that he'd seen him before, in another class. "Hey," he said a bit suddenly, "what's your name?"

"Know it all", thought Cris. He wasn't warming up too much to the boy. He seemed more destined for Ravenclaw than Hufflepuff. He shrugged. He wouldn't complain. He remembered the days with hufflepuff was limited. He didn't expect to like everyone anyways. But this guy was just sooo annoying. He prayed, that he would be different outside of class. He ignored the boy, not in the mood for mundane acquantanses just yet.

"Then, Mr. Ray, you are welcome to stay where you are and observe," Becca answered with a calm smile. Anything to keep the Huffle boy out of her hair would suit her. "Hippogriffs are proud beasts, and demand a great deal of respect. When approaching a Hippogriff, it is important to maintain eye contact and greet it with a low bow." Though she had already done this before bringing Darkwing in, Becca demonstrated for the class. "If he returns the bow, it is safe to approach." She was pleased to see Darkwing bow for her again and she went up and gave him a good pat and a dead ferret.
"Anyone willing to give it a try?" she asked. While Darkwing was tamer than Professor Hagrid's Hippogriff had been, she would be very particular as to who she picked for the demonstration.

Pat smirked and stepped forward a bit, raising his hand. He'd been waiting for the chance to interact with a creature like this; one so majestic, yet so dangerous at the same time. "If you don't mind," Pat said, "I'd like a shot at this." Turning his head back at the other Hufflepuff, he added jokingly, "Hey; if you still wanna reserve a hospital bed for me, now's the time."
With this line, Pat stepped forward in front of Darkwing, and made eye contact; he followed with a low bow. He raised his head slightly, just enough to keep eye contact, as well as see how the hippogriff would respond to his actions.
((Sorry if I'm proceeding this too fast; tell me and I'll cut off the latter part.))

Anna watched as Pat went over toward Darkwing. Even though she really wanted to go up close toward the hippogriff, she would just have to wait after Pat went. However, she knew that hippogriffs are proud and don't like to be insulted. She just hoped that Pat wouldn't do anything he would regret or make Darkwing do to him.
