There was no way he was going to tell her what he was hiding and he would do everything in his power to make sure that she didn’t get his bag. He watched as Verina set the kitten down on her desk and moved closer to him. It was a ploy and he knew it. Jack was ready for her. “No.” he said plainly trying to keep the bag out of her grips, but it seemed that she had already caught a corner of it. “It’s really nothing.” Jack continued, with a smile, trying to yank the corner of the bag out of her grasp.

Verina only gave him a wicked smile in reply as he tried to yank the corner of the bag she'd gotten ahold of out of her grasp. She could only imagine what people were thinking that saw them like this. But at that moment she'd forgotten they were there in her attempt to find out what he was hiding from her. "I think it is something or you wouldn't be trying so hard to hide it from me," she said just before she made a quick deft move and managed to get Jack's back away from him.
"Now lets just see what you were hiding," she said as with her foot she pushed off his chair so that her chair went a short distance away from Jack. Verina began to look through his bag to find what he'd been hiding from her for the moment all she was finding was the normal things you'd expect to see... but there at the bottom in the corner she saw pink...

“Why can’t it just be nothing.” Jack said as Verina made a quick grab for his bag and actually managed to grab it. Damn it. he thought viciously to himself. All he could do now was hope that she didn’t wave it about the classroom and make a big deal out of it. He really shouldn’t have been that embarrassed by it and wouldn’t have been if it would have been any other color besides pink. Why did that stupid cat have to lose the pink one in my book bag why not the blue one. At least that would have been a less girly color. Jack had a feeling that he should have just came out with what it was to Verina, but it was too late now.

Verina glanced at him and gave him one last wicked smile as she reached in and pulled out... Her eyes widened slightly as she looked at the thing now clasped in her hand. She tried her best not to laugh but in the end she ended up placing her other hand over her mouth to contain her laughter since she didn't want anyone else to see it because she didn't want Jack to get further embarrased. Opening her hand she looked at the fluffy pink silver glitter-tipped ball, "Aww Jack why do you got this in your bag?" she asked her laughter now for the most part contained, "Not that it isn't cute."

Jack saw Verina’s eyes widen and knew she had found the thing he had been hiding from her. Here we go. he thought. He expected her to burst into laughter any minute now and for the rest of the classes attention to be drawn to the little pink fluffy ball. He was pretty sure that he would never live this down, but to his great surprise she didn’t brandish it about and make a spectacle of it. He smiled slightly, not out of being amused but out of sheer embarrassment, when she tried to stifle her laughter and was speechless for the slightest of moments until he mumbled, “Stupid cat.” in response to her question and went a brilliant shade of red when she said it was cute.

Verina now having what she wanted scootted back toward Jack so that she was facing him once more the pink ball still clasped in her hand, "Stupid cat?" she inquired with a slight raise of the eyebrows her grin remaining in place and only growing as she noticed that Jack had gone red with embarrassment, "I thought you just liked carrying around a fluffy pink ball," Verina teased slightly opening her palm slightly, "And there's no reason to be embarrassed since it is cute," she said with a wink well aware of how close they were once more.

Jack smiled, not out of embarrassment this time, as Verina scooted closer to him. Her grin still firmly in place and if anything widening not faltering made him smile. He was just relieved that she hadn’t made an incident of it, her he could deal with. She would just harass him for awhile and then forget about it but at least the rest of the school wouldn’t harass him also. “No I just don’t go carrying around a pink fluffy ball.” Jack said with a slight laugh, “It was my cat. It must have knocked it in there when he was playing and I could kill him for picking the pink one and not the blue one.”

"Aww so you bought your kitty a pink fluffy ball that's sweet," Verina said still slightly teasing him and enjoying every minute of it, "I know your kitty has more cute pink things lying around doesn't it," she said smiling since now Jack was laughing rather than blushing not that he didn't look cute when he did since it was a rather rare thing to see, "You know what i think? I think your using your cat as a coverup since i made this little discovery." Verina hadn't intended to let everyone know that Jack had a fluffy pink ball since she didn't want to humilate him just tease him a bit.

“No she doesn’t.” Jack said the pink still not completely drained out of his face but it had faded dramatically, “Anyways I didn’t buy it for her. It came in a set of three that my mom got for her.” It seemed important that she understand that he didn’t buy it. Not that it would have mattered if he had bought them because he hadn’t boughten them for him but for his little angel.
“You think so?” he asked with a slight grin, “Now why would I do that and what would I have use for a pink fluffy ball?” Jack didn’t know what Verina thought he used the little ball for unless she was thinking that he just pulled it out and played with it when he was bored.

"Aww you didn't," Verina said frowning slightly though she didn't really mean it, "And here i'd thought that was cute but you didn't even do it." It did make sense that his mom had maybe bought it since she doubted that a guy would intentionally buy something pink even if it was for his cat. Also it coming in a set of three made sense he'd seen those before in stores.
"I don't know," Verina said with a slight shrug, "Maybe you like to throw it around when your bored and since its small its kinda hard to see unless your nearby," she said with a smile at the time she hadn't really meant anything by it but of course she had to think of something quickly and had.

((This is in response to Lauren's last post, I don't feel like quoting. )) Pat gave a small smile to Lauren after her response. "Pretty much the same as you," Pat said, giving a single nod. Like Lauren, he had also stayed at Hogwarts over the holidays. "Wasted time around school, did a little homework..." A small smirk broke out on his face now, taking the place of the smile. "...almost got my cat stolen by two of your Slythie pals... Nic 'n' Art I think." Pat held in some snickering; the two Slytherin guys had livened up an otherwise dull afternoon, even if they had done so by attempting to abduct Squall. "Oh yeah, also got ambushed by some reindeer on Christmas morning, but that's a whole other story. Anyways..." Pat glanced around at a couple of cats on the floor near his feet. "Whatcha think?" Pat asked, refering to the cats, and what Lauren thought they would be doing with them.

“I’ll get me a blue one for that purpose.” Jack said laughing. At least if anyone snuck up on him then he wouldn’t be caught with a pink fluffy ball, but he didn’t think that he would like to be caught with a cat toy period. No he’d have to find something else to entertain him in those boring and drawn out classes. “But I guess it will come in handy to entertain that little guy.” He said indicating the cat Verina had been playing with, “Maybe then it will be distracted with that and not the other stuff in my book bag.”

Verina couldn't help laughing slightly as Jack said he'd get one for that specific purpose. She hadn't really meant for him to get one but hey it could keep someone entertained... just as long as it wasn't pink of course, "Yes i think he will be too," she said with a smile as she extended his bag back to him, "I think you'll be needing this," she smiled, "and this," she said extending her other hand out palm up with the little pink fluffy glitter-tipped toy ball atop it.

Jack took his bag from Verina and placed on the floor where it had been before this little struggle over it had ensued. He really wasn’t sure that he needed to hang onto the pink and silver puff ball, but he took that to and placed it back into his bag thinking that he would just give it back to Verina along with her cat once they got out of the classroom. He had absolutely no use for the pink fluff ball and his cat wouldn’t even miss it she was so spoiled. “You might want to keep an eye on that kitten. Knowing Bloxam we’ll probably be transfiguring them and I would hate for you to end up with a half slipper half cat in the end.” Jack said with a smile looking over at the cute little kitten, "Although it might be easier to get it out of here if it was a slipper."

Verina's eyes widened she'd completely forgotten about the fact that they'd be transfiguring the cats. Turning back to her desk she carefully picked up the little furball and placed him once more on her lap, "I wouldn't want that either," she said with a pensieve expression as she softly ran one of her hands down its fur. She couldn't help smiling at Jack's next words, "Yes if it were a slipper that might be easier and you wouldn't have to worry about it 'accidently' clawing anything," Verina said with a small laugh.
