Kylie was in her element. She had used pencils and paper since she was born, well at least since she could write anyways. Taking her notepad from the professor she said, "Thanks," in her normal cheerful way. Taking the pencil in her right hand she quickly scribbled her name down across it and then added an extra little doodle, just for fun, to the end of it. She found writing with pencils to be a lot less time consuming then quills and often wrote with them. She couldn't believe that some of the kids had never heard of what they were called, this was probably do to her growing up as a muggle and taking these things for granted.

"Well, Ms. Jones that is a very good question." he said watching as the girl set the PDA down. "We will even start class there, lets see if anyone already knows the answer." Thinking that there had to be a few muggle borns in the class that would know exactly what it was used for. "Five points to the next person who can answer what this is and what muggles use it for." He said picking up one of the PDA's, then setting it back down he continued around the class handing out notepads and pencils. Not even a student later he was being reminded just how much some wizards didn't know about muggles. He didn't mind though after all it was his job to inform them of the muggle community.
"Thanks Talia for pointing out that I have forgotten to tell you what these are even called. Forgive me I am use to teaching muggles." he said raising the notepad and pencil again. "This," he held up only the pencil this time, "is called a pencil and as many of you have already found out or knew it is used for writing, just as a quill would be. Except you don't have to dip it in any ink to get it to work. All you have to do is sharpen it from time to time. And this," he held up the notepad, "is what you write on and keep your notes in. It works in the same way as parchment does only it has lines to help keep your sentences evenly spaced and writing in proportion."
Still waiting for one of his students to answer the question on the PDA's he walked back to his desk pulling open his drawer and putting away the extra pencils and notepads. After he was finished with this he walked back around to the front of his desk leaning on it just waiting for someone to answer. He liked to get his students involved in the lessons and didn't really care whether or not the students got it right all of the time. It was just the fact that they were trying and participating in the class.

Talia smiled at Jake as he sat down, and proceeded to write down her name in the paper notebook. She wondered just how many people were muggle born... and although it used to be uncommon, it was becoming more uncommon to come from a wizarding family.
Talia's eyebrows raised, and she was a little bit impressed. She looked back to the Professor, not meaning to be rude, or interupt with the question he just asked, she was curious, "So... although muggles don't have magic, they have the common sense to come up with this paper to keep writing neat?" She asked, wondering why wizard never used the stuff. She also thought the pencil was brilliant aswell... It got rid of the hassle of carrying around a quill which easily broke, and a pot of ink.

"They are used to keep in contact, are they not?" Matty said with her face in sort of a confused look. Shruging and looking towards Jynx, she noticed what a lovley day it really was. Stroking her finger down her page, she picked up one sheet of the paper, looking to see if anything was written in her pad, as she ran her fingers down the edge of the paper. "ouch" shaking her hand slightly she looked down at her left had, she had a paper cut. Sucking her finger she Matty sighed and lowerd her finger, it wasn't that bad. She simply screwed up her face a bit before resting her finger on her lap.

Jynx listened as Matty answered the question. She was right on the basic use of a PDA, but he thought that he could add a little bit more information to it. His dad was an attorney so he naturally had one of them around that he used frequently in Jynx's presence. "It's called a PDA or Personal Digital Assistant and is used to keep reminders, calenders, scheduled events, interviews, appointments and store lots of other information. Some can even access the web and do e-mails." Jynx said with a smile, "Oh ya of course you can play games on them as well." This was the main thing that Jynx used his dads for, to play games on it.
Jynx looked over when he heard Matty say 'ouch'. It looked like she had gotten a paper cut from the notepad. He knew how bad those things could hurt and asked, "You alright over there?" in a low tone so the that he wouldn't distrub the professor.

Jack had no idea what the PDA could be used for in the muggle world, after all he was a pure blood and the only muggle information that he knew he had learned from his brother in America. Out of everything on the desk the only thing that he knew what was was the laptop and he only knew this because his brother had given him one so that they could communicate through e-mail instead of sending owls every five minutes.
As answers were given he wrote them down on his notepad that the teacher had given him, with his pencil.

"Yes, muggles do come up with a variety of creative ways to compensate for not being able to use magic. There livelihood depends on it and they have shown to be quite resourceful and creative in there inventions for everyday stuff. The stuff that wizards take for granted because they are able just to produce it with a flick of a wand." Norbrook said smiling at Talia's curiosity.
Turning his attention back to the class he heard Matty's attempt at answering the question. "Yes Matty they can be used to keep in contact with other people, but that is just a little part of there capability. But that was a very good guess," he said glad that she had gotten the question rolling. "Can anyone else add to what Matty has just told us." He didn't have to wait long until he heard the next student giving his attempt at the question. It was obvious that Jynx had lived with and been around muggles quite a bit because most wizards wouldn't know what a PDA was. "Yes, exactly Jynx. PDA's are mainly used to store information, but they can also send e-mails and enter the internet. But it is limited in its internet access" James said with a smile and a nod towards the boy. “All this will make more sense when we go over the computer so I will just put the internet and e-mail on hold until then. So basically what you need in your notes is a sketch of what a PDA looks like so you are able to identify it and that it is basically used to store information that muggles use to organize their daily lives. Any questions?”
“So let me see that’s fifteen points to Hufflepuff. Five for Talia’s great questions, five to Matty for attempting to answer my question and five to Jynx for giving such a thorough explanation of the PDA. Oh and five points to Slytherin for Charlie helping me get class rolling with her interest in thePDA.”

"I also heard that the only way you e-mail is that you have to have something called screennames or something. My point, that you have to have screen names to even e-mail someone. It's also faster to send than owls," he said to him. He hoped that was worth some points for Gryffindor. Poor Professor Stern not here. But oh well, maybe he just was gone for one day. He then waited until the professor said something of what Tristan just asked. It was awfully going to be a long day but it was worth it. Just good enough that NO ministry dudes we're in here.
He hoped.

Matty smiled at the professor before biting her lip again and saying in her whisper, "Yea, just a peper cut, ill be fine." Looking down at her note pad, she took the pencil with her good hand and started sketching to outside of her PDA. Once finished she started working on its featurs and so one. After a few minutes it was done. 'Great' she thought as it turned out much better then she thought it would. Matty then looked up to the Professor to see how he would answer the Gryffindor's question.

"Skee-ore," Charlie said under her breath excitedly. I guess that whole participation thing's worth it, she thought as she remembered about the sad Slytherin hourglass barely making it to the halfway point. And since this class was proving to turn to a good time, she wasn't bothered by having to maybe pipe up once in a while.
Putting the notepad and pencil in front of her, she momentarily twitched for a quill before she picked up the pencil, going on to sketch the PDA. Notta TV, notta TV... She thought as she corrected the dial-like buttons. Either way, they looked the same. She wasn't Michaelangelo.

Jack made sure to make a scaled down drawing of the PDA, so that he could label all of the parts to it and write down the main information given about it. Being a pure blood would prove to be a bit of a down fall for him in this class, but it would also make the class more interesting. He would always be learning something new, unless, on the rare chance that they actually covered something that his brother had explained to him. Then he might know a bit of information about it, but if not he was sure that he wouldn't be able to answer many of the questions that the professor would ask them.

Jynx hurried and jotted down what the professor said they needed to know about PDA's. He already knew what a PDA did and looked like, but decided to draw a sketch of it anyways, just in case the professor called for there notes or something. Just like anything else he drew he took his time with it. Putting every detail in and shading it so that it looked more really then just a quick flat drawing. Once he was finished with the drawing he looked up towards the professor signaling that he was done and had no question he wanted to ask.

Kylie, being muggle born, already knew many of the things that they had said about the PDA and was a little mad at herself for not answering the question before the others. O well, I'll get the next one. she thought to herself as she quickly sketched the PDA and labeled all of the parts that they needed to. In the margins she also wrote down anything that she thought might come up again and that she would be expected to know in the future.

"Thats a good point Mr. Howard, but lets save e-mail and the internet until we are dealing with these, which will be a little later on in the class." Norbrook said stepping to one side and pointing at the lap top that sat on his desk. He knew that some of the students would be wondering about the e-mail and internet aspect of the device, but thought that it was a better idea to go over it when they went over the computer. After all a PDA is limited in these two functions while the computer is a lot more advanced in them.

Charlie raised her hand. "Question." Holy Mother of Merlin! I'm actually askin' a question! "When you mean that these PDAs organize Muggle's daily lives, does it actually do things for them?" As far as she was concerned, she had never seen a PDA clean a room. "So it washes clothes and stuff?"
