There were a couple of reasons to be in the trophy room. You could be looking for some peace and quiet amongst the hustle and bustle of the castle, you could be serving a rather nastily thought out detention by polishing the many trophies in the room, or you could just wander into the room.
Connor was the third option, while doing some of his rounds and making sure no one was getting into too much trouble, he had passed by the statue of the humpbacked with he had wandered into the trophy room for no specific reason. Despite the fact that he was supposed to be walking around the castle, just checking on things, he was drawn to the shiny cups, plates, shields and metals behind the glass cases, neatly set up on shelves side by side. At first he just looked them over, not noticing any names or dates, just the actual objects.
They were shined and looked rather pristine behind the glass, it dawned on Connor that some poor unfortunate soul must have spend some time polishing the awards. He smirked slightly, glad that he hadn’t had the misfortune to spend any amount of time here doing the same thing. He finally looked at the actual names on the awards, spotting familiar ones and not so familiar ones as well. Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter, Neville Longbottom, and various other names extremely well known throughout history. He was amazing by the amount of awards that had been given to students. Then again, with the amount of students that had attended the school it really shouldn’t have been too big of a shock.
Crouching down to look at the lowest level of awards Connor spotted one award, a golden shield given to Tom Riddle. Voldemort, a name still slightly taboo despite his death and downfall at the hands of Harry Potter, had received an award for services to the school. Possibly one of the most infamous Slytherins known throughout wizarding history, Connor felt and eerie wave sweep over him as he looked at the award, thinking how Slytherin ideals had changed. The school itself had changed. He wondered what would be next to change.

Through all of her years at Hogwarts, Tianne couldn't believe that she hadn't seen the famous trophy room. A couple of people that she knew had gotten detentions there, and had always come back telling how cool all the trophies were, but Tianne had just brushed it off as they must have been so bored that a simple Trophy provided a life time of entertainment. She always had other things to do, or when she didn't have anything to do, she'd forget about going to see them, until it was much too late.
After being on rounds all morning, Tianne was pretty tired. She had gotten up early, as her 'shift' started fairly early, and she had been up late that night. That probably wasn't the bext decision that she coould have made, but that was now a fact, and it wasn't something that could be changed. All during her rounds, she had a first year walking with her, recounting the fun experiences that he had had during his short time at Hogwarts. This was boring, listening to a little kid exaggerate on the tiniest things, but Tianne didn't really want to be alone, and this kid seemed more than happy to give her company.
Oneopinion that Tianne formed during this new 'friendship' was that the kid new a lot about the trophy room. She never would have thought that it culd have sounded so boring, and still have persuaded Tianne to go there, but that was one thing. When her shift was finally over, instead of going back to the common room, and slumping into a chair near the fire, Tianne made her way to the third floor, and went into the trophy room, surprised to see another prefect in there. It wasn't anything like she'd imagined it would be, for some reason, she imagined it to be dusty, and empty, but there was another soul in here, and everything seemed to be shined and polished.
Tianne wandered over to the place that the boy was looking, before seeing the famous names of Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore. "I wouldn't have thought they'd have kept that one." She said, not realy knowing why. She wasn't so much saying it to the boy, but just starting a conversation. Pointing her finger to the golden shield, she read the name aloud, still wondering. "Tom Riddle..." She said, to herself.

The room was correctly named ' The Trophy Room, ' but as Connor's eyes traced the inscriptions etched into the metal of many awards, he felt that it would possibly be more appropriately named the history room, or something of the like. He tilted his head up although didn't move from his crouching position, he spotted another name glistening in the light. Severus Snape. Now there was a Slytherin to be proud of. His eyes wandered back down and rested on Tom Riddle's golden shield. The reasons for the teen being awarded it escaped Connor at the moment, and he shook his head slightly.
He could hear the sound of footsteps and turned his head to look at the girl entering the room. He didn't know her too well but did recognize her as a fifth year. Last year when he had been a fifth year himself he had had several classes with the girl, who was then a fourth year.
Without a word his eyes eventually settled back onto Riddle's name just as he heard the girl speaking up. ' I wouldn't have thought they'd have kept that one. ' He looked back up to her, she was a bit taller than he was considering how his current position shortened his height considerably, curiosity in his eyes. " What makes you say that? It's history, can't change anything about that. " He said with an affirmative nod of his head. It was like saying that if you took a reminder of something away that people would forget it entirely. That was what history was all about, afterall. Remembering so it didn't happen again. As his mother used to warn him, history has a way of repeating itself and only through education can we stop the cycle.

The trophy room really was like nothing she had imagined it to be. She didn't think that it would be packed full, nor shiny and new, but mainly, she didn't think that it would actually be interesting. After all the stories that she had heard, about it being a hangout for the Deva, about it being haunted by the ghosts of the trophy holders, and about the 'booby traps' that were set up all through it. Tianne wished that she could have had a trophy in the room, just so when people, like her for instance, came looking through, they could read her name aloud. It was a weird wish, yeah, but Tianne wanted people to know her name, to know her as a good person/student.
Smiling down at the boy, Tianne nodded at what he said. She supposed that it was an opinion thing, as yes, history was set in stone, and was irreversible, but she had just guessed that the trophy would have been erased, as he was taboo-ed from the world. It was rude to speak his name, and many feared it, but she never thought that they'd keep a legacy to him, in the very school that his downfall occured in. "Just because you can't change it doesn't make people not want to forget it." She smiled, not trying to be rude or horrible at all. It was up to the boy as to how he took it, but she meant nothing by it. Looking at the names on the trophy's, Tianne gave a light chuckle when she found the ones engraved with the famous name of Harry Potter.

Connor's eyes briefly looked at the award for Tom Riddle again, attracted to it and fearing it at the same time. He wished the award elaborated on why Riddle had won the award in the first place. What had he done for the school to deserve such a thing? Connor's own curiousity was enough to make his head spin as he thought about this, his gaze turned back to the girl standing next to him. He smiled as he stood up to his full height of an even six feet tall, now taller than the girl. He reached out his hand for her to shake, although he didn't introduce himself just quite yet.
He turned, glancing at the many trophies inscribed with awards on them, giving them all a quick once over before he looked back to the younger girl. " But then again, if we forget it, it's bound to happen again. "
Now, with a friendly smile, he introduced himself. " I'm Connor, by the way. Connor Manning, Slytherin prefect. " He figured if he was going to challenge her thoughts, and she challenge his, they might as well get acquainted with one another. Her name still escaped him, but he felt sure that she would introduce herself in a moment or so.

Giving a light laugh, Tianne sighed. She had never really been in this situation, where she was confident enough to challenge someone's thoughts, and say what was really on her mind. It was rare for the girl, especially with someone that she was yet to even learn the name of. He was so familiar to Tianne, and he didn't look that much older than she was. He was definitely going to be taller than her, even when he was in the position he was in she could tell that. Tianne hated being small, but you get that. When the boy did stand up, let's just say that Tianne felt like a child again. She was 5"1, not even that short, but a lot shorter than the boy.
Smiling back at the boy, she put her hand to his and shook it. "You've got a point." She said, nodding, and crossing her arms again. Still grinning, Tianne was glad that she could put a name to the face.
"Tianne Webster-Barrett. I'm a ravenclaw prefect." She said, a sweet smiled on her face. She didn't really know whether she wanted to continue to challenge the boy's opinion, but figured that it would be something that would decided itself. It wasn't something that she had to put an answer to, anyways. "So if we forget it, and it happens again, we will be put through the same thing, and we won't know how to prevent or stop it?" She smiled, tilting her head on the side, as if to consider what she had just spoken.

Connor didn't consider himself a history buff at all, but for some reason talking about it, and the effects of it with this girl was proving rather interesting. His curious eyes scanned some of the other names on various Quidditch metals, James Potter, Sirius Black. He was currently reading from a shield with names of Gryffindors inscribes on them, a quidditch team probably the winners of the Quidditch cup at the end of the year when they were in school. He silently wondered why all of the students to remember anything good about were from Gryffindor. He didn't have anything against the house, but still, he couldn't help but wonder.
He dropped his hand back to his side as she introduced herself to him. Now that she said her name, Connor realized that he kind of did know who she was. He recalled seeing her at the prefect's meeting at the beginning of the year on the train to Hogwarts. She sure was small, he thought with a slight smile. " Nice to meet you, Tianne. " He said casually with a nod of his head.
He took a few seconds to think about her question. If anything she was just backing up what he said, we remember so it doesn't happen, if we forget, it does. " Trial by error. If we forget, we either come up with a new, more effective solution, or we use the same exact thing to fix it as last time, which could result in good things or bad things. " He couldn't remember the last time he had had a conversation like this, a good discussion that made him think about it. He knew his statement might have been confusing, because it was a little bit puzzling to him as well, and he would be willing to attempt to explain it if she needed him to.

It had been a long time since Tianne had had a discussion like this out fo class. Back in her muggle school, they would do this all the time, after all, she did go to a selective school. Tianne was in the debating team back there, and she was quite good, unfortunately, all of her skills seemed to have been lost. She liked they way that this boy provided her brain with something to think about, and it wasn't just a mindless conversation about absolutely nothing. She didn't think that it would turn into an arguement or anything, so she may as well have her fun with it. Still smiling sweetly Tianne nodded.
"My please, Conner." She joked, looking back at the boy. Directing her attention back to the trophies once again, she smiled happily. After all, her passion for history, her hunger to learn more about it, was strong, and this was the best thing that she could do outside of class, to feed this need. Running her finger up and down the glass, as her eyes followed it from trophy to trophy. One day she was sure that she'd have something in this very room.
Nodding at what the boy said, Tianne folded her arms. "But if we are forced to remember, some wounds are still open, and that can hurt... alot." She thought aloud, not making too much sense. It really depended on whether the boy understood the metaphor. Looking at the boy, Tianne took the smile off her face. "It's like looking into the sun. We know we shouldn't, but it's too great a part of our lives to resist." She said, looking down at her feet.

Connor alternated from looking back at the trophies, metals, shields and bowls to the girl standing before him. He was actually rather glad for the company, especially when they were able to have intelligent conversation such as the one they were having at the present time. A lot of times when Connor just met someone their discussions were rather boring, dull and just not entertaining to the Slytherin. He was picky like that, but he figured if he was going to make an effort to talk to someone, it might as well be worth his while to do so.
The sixth year was slightly taken aback at his interest in what they were talking about. He was indifferent to the types of history that Professor Griffiths taught them. He didn't dislike the class, but there was something more intriguing to the Slytherin about the more recent history, such as the stories of Voldemort and Harry Potter. He knew all history affected the current times, but to him it seemed like the more recent events affected him even more than what happened between the Romans thousands of years ago. It was probably foolish to think that way, but it didn't really stop him from doing so. My please, Conner. The Manning boy turned his head to give the girl a small grin at her light tease.
He took in her first comment with a grain of salt, he knew from personal experience that it was true. But still, if he didn't remember, then he would just end up hurt again, or at least that was how he saw it. " Exactly, we do it anyway. Like you said before, some wounds are forced to stay open, thus forcing us to remember. Wounds can still heal over time, but still it's the scar that matters, right? The memory of it to remind you of how you got it and what it means to you. " He was pulling all of this out of the air, but as he said it he realized that he really did believe it.

Tianne was rather surprised that she had met someone that she could actually have an intelligent, and decent conversation with in teh trophy room. Although she had chosen to go, she was also just going to get away from the constant giggling in the dormitorys, the battle sounds coming from the common room, where the first year boys were staging a war, and the annoying sounds of the wind whistling through the window. She was glad that she had come, however tired she may be.
Smiling still, Tianne moved around the room, at a slow pace so she could see everything. True, she liked the ancient history, rather than the more modern history, but that didn't mean that she wasn't enjoying it. She was glad that she had met a new person, especially because he wasn't in her house. That sounded weird, yeah, but since Seth and Ryan left, Matty had been her only friend that wasn't in her house, and sometimes it was good to get away from the birdbrains, however hyprocritical it was.
Stopping at a shield, that seemed somewhat familiar to the girl, she couldn't remember where she knew it from. The name didn't pose anything to the girl, but the simple design did. Passing it off, Tianne listened in to what the boy was saying. She really couldn't think of anything to say to that, she was fresh out of comments. Admitting her defeat, Tianne gave a light laugh. "Bravo." She smiled, walking back over towards where Conner was standing. "But what if it meant something horrible to you, what if it was something that needed to stay open, even if it killed you?"

As he glanced at Tianne as she moved slowly around the room, Connor remembered why he hadn't been able to place her at first. Up until that point in the trophy room whenever he had spotted the girl in the halls or in the library she was always with the Slytherin bloke, Seth. Or if she wasn't with him, she was with Matty. Seeing her without either of these two people around her she had looked slightly out of place to the Slytherin's eyes. She seemed to be in her own element now, though.
Connor finally moved from the spot he had been standing very stationary in. He had been hesitant to move around at first just because he didn't want to run into the younger girl, Connor wasn't all that observant when he was trying to read or look at things and walk. Trusting that he wouldn't flatten her, he moved about slowly, pausing every now and then to look at something or another. He stopped at one of the older House Cups, awarded for house points. It was, of course, for Ravenclaw. He was about to say something about it, as well, until he realized that he was in the presence of a Ravenclaw. He grinned slightly and said it anyway, " So, you looking forward to winning the house cup this year? " It was a slightly watered down version of what he had been going to say, but he didn't want to offend her any.
He met the girl in the middle of the room as she said ' Bravo. ' He grinned, a little sad that she couldn't think of a rebuttle to what he had said. " Why would you want something to stay open if it was horrible? I mean... It's good to remember, but that doesn't mean having to kill yourself over it. "

Tianne hadn't even thought that the boy had been staying in the same place, but really, it didn't matter. She had been walking, and the illusion that he was moving too was created, Tianne didn't even realize that she kept returning to the same place. To tell the truth, Tianne was so absorbed in the trophies around her, that she wasn't paying attention to anything, her mind was in a shiny, mostly gold place. Even though it sounded completely nerdy, Tianne was enjoying this, being able to have an intellectual conversation, and learn about history. A win win situation, as it was called.
Still wandering around, avoiding looking at the trophies that had Tom Riddle's name upon them. She didn't really know why, it just made her uncomfortable to do so. Maybe it was the looking into the past, when just a few years ago it had caused such a major thing, or maybe it was the badness, which was now coming in through the Deva. Remembering the ordeal that the school went through wasn't exactly the nicest thing to do, but she had to remember that Voldemort had nothing to do with that, but it was still bad.
Smiling at Conner as he once again gave his opinion, Tianne shrugged. "To make sure that it didn't happen again." She said with a smirk, remembering the past conversations. "Maybe its not their choice, maybeits someone of higher authority thats making the decision."

Thinking about recent and not so recent history caused Connor to be reminded of his own history of magic lessons, which prompted him to turn and look towards Tianne, asking, " Which professor did you prefer more, Atwood or Griffiths? " He wasn't sure if the girl had attended Hogwarts for all five years or if she had come recently, but if she did remember Atwood then he wanted her opinion on the matter. When it came to comparing Marvin Atwood and Alexander Griffiths, there was a lot to take into consideration. Both of them had an appreciation for making the topic interesting, something Connor and other students were thankful for.
Atwood had been kind of strange, a little aloof but a good professor all the same. Griffiths, despite Connor's bad start with the man, was a good teacher, a little distracted and off topic at times, but decent all the same. Connor looked back to a couple of metal shields listing head boys and girls. Devin Brady. He smirked slightly as he read that, spotting a couple of other familiar names on the list as well. The most recent two being Charlie and Drew. Connor wondered who would be Head Boy and girl for the next year. He held a small amount of hope that it would be him, as none of the other Prefects were either seventh years or were girls. " Hm.. " He hummed to himself as he considered what she said. " Maybe. But you'd think that you'd still have the option, right? Even if someone else was at fault for ' keeping it open, ' so to say. " He added after a few seconds of thinking.

Tianne didn't really know what had brought on the question that had soon been said, and really, she didn't know how to answer it. She liked Griffiths, yeah, but there wasn't anything that could beat the kookiness and craziness of Professor Atwood. She wished that he was still there sometimes, but she felt that Professor Grifftiths was a good teacher. He had offered her an apprenticeship, an offer that she was yet to reply to. "I don't know. Atwood was a mad fun teacher, but Griffiths is a really good teacher. How about you?" She grinned, saying what was on her mind.
Wandering over to the statue that the boy was looking at, she saw a few names that were familiar. She first saw the name Rachel Kinsley, and immediately recognized it as being her Head of Houses', before trailing up the list. Reaching Drew and Charlie, Tianne smiled, remembering the 'study sessions'. She didn't know who it was going to be, but Tianne guessed that it may be Felicity. Tianne herself was not yet eligible, but she felt when her time did come, that she wouldn't be the one to recieve the honour, that it would go to Matty. Turning to the boy, Tianne paused for a moment, figuring out what to say. "If it hurt you that much, then I guess you'd find the option, even if it wasn't quite apparent. If It meant that much to you, then you'd do anything."

She had good points about both Atwood and Griffiths, and Connor agree that the former had been a ' mad fun teacher. ' He and Griffiths hadn't been the best of pals at the beginning of the year, but with the most recent lesson it kind of seemed to the Slytherin like the man favored him in some weird way. Perhaps it was because he had apologized for being stupid in the man's class, or because he had come back without causing much trouble. He didn't know, really. He gave it a few moments of thinking before he countered anything back to her. " I think I would have to choose Griffiths. I was only in Atwood's class for part of the year. " He remembered back to the slightly infamous History of Magic lesson with Celina and him snapping at one another.
Now it seemed like a timidly mild spat when you took into consideration other things that had happened. Continuing on the topic of Professors, Connor asked, " Who's your favorite professor? "
His mind was in several places, thinking about the hurting and history and thinking about their professors as well. He decided to address what she said about the hurt before he asked a question he had on his mind. " Hm, you bring up a good point. But what if it wasn't that easy? What if you wanted to forget and remember? " His mind flashed back to the Deva invasion. He wanted to forget everything about it, but he had to remember. If not, there would be nothing gained from the terrible events. Nothing at all worth fighting for. Removing his thoughts from the invasion for a few seconds he asked, " Who d'you think's going to get it next year? " He nodded towards the statue.
