Drew shrugged the suggestion off. "Everyone else has their own tests to worry about," he answered. Kellen and Allegra were busy studying for their NEWTs and he never saw Ari around anymore. He had tried asking Alhana for help on a number of occasions, but that usually didn't get very far astronomy wise. Who else was there to ask?

"Get the revision guide, you can get it delivered by owl and hopefully in time for the exams," While, as she had proved, Dee wasn't much of a class speaker she was willing to share this one piece of information.
"It has all the practical tips and notes for the written exam," She only knew about these books as they had saved her a few times and she didn't count them as cheating if they were allowed to be published and sold in actual stores.

"I'm okay with the written part," Drew answered. "It's the practical I suck at." He had taken to memorizing star charts for the month of June in the hopes that he'd just be able to recreate it on the practical test. Merlin help him if the examiner asked them to set their telescopes to Neptune or something. Then he'd be totally up the proverbial creek.

Mason was uncertain how he could help. His Astronomy was getting rusty. It would be a tad late to offer help now anyways.
"I do have this friend who knows a lot in that area," he said. He didn't know or didn't think it could help. It was more like a random piece of information. "He always says knowing the stars is the best way to...erm, start a conversation."

Drew grinned a little. The way Professor Mason stuttered that last bit made the Ravenclaw wonder if Mason's friend studied Astronomy for something other than the conversation starting factor. Drew could sure think of a lot of things to do under the stars, none of which involved talking.
"Okay... honestly?" Drew started, confident Mason would be straight up with him. "Do I really need Astronomy? Aren't most people just able to use the page they write up in The Prophet? Unless I plan on writing the Astronomy page, I don't really need it in life, right?" yes, he understood that someone would have to write that section, but he also knew it wouldn't ever be him.

He scratched his chin thoughtfully, brows furrowed in concentration. "I know people use star location and such with homing talisman," he said, recalling an incident involving one of his assistant getting so lost that the team had to call the local authority for help. "Of course, knowledge in the field of Astronomy often helps if you are an archaeologist."
He paused in between coming up with more examples. "But the more important question is, what do you want to do, career-wise?"

"An archeologist? Really?" Drew asked, still not sure anyone really needed more than the daily write-up in the paper. It told you what phase the moon was in, which stars were rising, which planets were aligned... really everything you needed. Sure some people could tell where they were by the stars, but a good Point-me spell or even a simple Muggle compass would do the same thing.
He was more than a little hesitant to tell Mason his plans for the future. If the professor said you needed Astronomy to be an Auror, Drew was dead meat.

"Of course, you never know when it's going to become useful. I guess Astronomy can be one of the things you don't pay much attention to, but can be handy from time to time," Mason replied with a shrug. Learning new things was always fun to him, although he still had trouble telling one constellation to another.
"But our more immediate concern should be, what can we do to help you on the practical exam?" he said. He supposed he could help if the boy asked. Anything was possible if you worked hard enough for it, right?

"I dunno..." Drew answered back with a shrug. If he knew, he'd do it on his own, plain and simple.
He was a little disappointed with Mason's answer. Drew hadn't expected the old "it will come in handy one day" from the man. It was something his mother kept trying to convince him and he didn't buy it anymore than the Muggle kids believed that they'd have to use Geometry in every day life.

Dee sat and listened to the conversation with mild interest she herself wasn't too keen on astronomy but she had always managed to scrape a pass. It wasn't particularly a strong point but like Drew had pointed out she didn't think she would ever need it so she wasn't worried. However she still didn't have any idea what she wanted to do after school and so it was useful to keep it on board.

After hearing the teacher dismiss the class, Kay just pulled out her notes for her various classes out of her book bag. Exam time was getting nearer and nearer, and she really wanted to make sure that she did the best she could, so there could be no regrets later on. It wasn't that Kay was obsessed with her grades, it was more like she just wanted to have good grades. Leafing through her notes, Transfiguration caught her eye, and she settled down to start going over the theory for Switching Spells, keeping an open ear to the conversation taking place, while absent-mindedly sucking on the end of her quill.
