New term, new resolution. Learning from his mistakes from last year, Professor Mason had re-done his teaching plan over the summer and hopefully it would work better this time.
After opening the door, he went back and stood in front of his desk. It was still early, so no students were lining up outside the room. Looking at his notes and going through topics in his head, he waited for the class to show up.

Class? What class exactly? To her knowledge not many of her compatriots were taking Runes, most having opted for Creatures and Arithmancy. In fact, to her knowledge, the only other student in her Runes course was going to be Calister... Merlin it was forecast to be a long, arduous and foreboding year...perfect. The Hufflepuff welcomed the challenge.
Regardless of what the outlook of the year was within this particular room, Lianna found herself entering both first (again) and with a smile, nodding in greeting to the Professor before plopping herself into the third seat of the second row. There was no way she was being directly in front if she could help it. So this is Professor Mason? I think? I really hope I'm in the right room... The third year thought, realizing alittle bit late that it would probably have been better to check such BEFORE sitting down...oh well. Such was life. Let the lessons begin?

Mason looked up from his notes when the Hufflepuff girl walked in. There she was, one of his third year students. Of course, they could stare at each other until the bell rang, or he could be nice and started a conversation.
"You must be Miss Maylorn," he said. That part was not difficult. "Welcome to Runes." A slightly longer pause. "I assume you like runes?"

Ty made his way to the Ancient Runes classroom wondering if somehow he had heard wrong. Was it really only going to be him a Lianna? He hoped not. Not that he held anything against her, no that was all in the past, but still it would be a bit ackward with just the two of them in class. Oh well he would just have to make the best of it anyways. Smiling he walked into the classroom and took a seat one row back from where Lianna was sitting. Setting down his bag he said hi to both the professor and Lianna before taking out his quill and parchment.

The man had spoken to her, an oddly unplanned coincidence, and it was a moment after that that Ty had entered without a word to her. Well, conversation was conversation, and she really didn't know much on the subject, and it was the man's job to enlighten her on it was it not? After all, thus far there were only two of them in the class and Professor Mason, why treat like an actual class?
"Umm...well, to be honest I don't know much about them, they just sounded...interesting." Lianna replied, a half smile pulling at her face. Merlin that was a smooth move, this had been the one class she'd done no personal research on before term, it figured she'd have this one before her other two electives...talk about making a fool of herself. Hopefully the class would be somewhat interesting because hse was stuck with it until OWLS if she recalled correctly.

The professor was not at all disappointed at that. He was actually quite okay with it. At least runes sounded interesting to the student. And because of that, he got the chance to show them so much more. Definitely good sign.
"I do hope you will find them more than interesting after the course," he said gently. "So Miss Maylorn, Mr Calister, welcome to Ancient Runes. So, anyone knows what the OWL syllabus requires you to know for this subject?"

The O.W.L. syllabus? Merlin OWLS were two years away and just the way he'd said that gave her the slightest bit of anxiety and nervousness over the subject. She'd looked at it, and only found a bunch of names to which she could barely pronounce herself--of which her pronounciations of them were most likely wrong. Figuring that perhaps she and Mason had spken enough for the first few moments (even if they were pre-start of class) that Ty had a right to answer.
"I looked at it, but...couldn't pronounce any of it..." Lianna spoke timidly, trying to figure out if thequestion might be a verbal trap of some sort. It was possible, as Mason certainly seemed an educated enough man to pull such a stunt. Then again, all their profesors were educated enough to twist words...
If Ty knew more than she, this was his chance to have at it...for once, she had very little knowledge of a class she was taking. It was an odd thing to consider.

(Ty said hi to both Lianna and the professor. I just didn't put it in quotes. ) Ty just sat there and occuppied himself with doodling on his piece of parchment he had gotten out. Looking up only when his name had been said with a confused expression coming over his face. There was an actual syllabus for the OWLS? How was he suppose to know this? Even if he had known about it he still wouldn't have taken the time to bother looking it over. After all OWLS were so far away that he wasn't all that concerned with them just yet. "Heck I didn't even know there was an OWL syllabus," Ty said after Lianna had said she had looked at it.

"Then Mr Calister, I strongly suggest you take a good look at it," the man said not unkindly, but with a hint of annoyance in his tone. "While I understand it is still a long way before you have to face your OWLs, it's always good to be prepared."
He turned and walked towards the blackboard. On it, he wrote the topic "Baybayin" neatly in his slightly elongated hand-writing. "This one is a new topic. But rest assured, it's not very difficult. So," he looked at the two students. "Any ideas what that is about?"

"Oh I will be prepared, just not two years in advance," Ty said with a smile. He knew he would be perfectly fine when the OWL's came around, but there was really noway he was going to start studying now. Sure he learned the material, but he wasn't going to put any more effort into it then just the simple studying for the class.
Ty looked up as the man wrote what was today's topic on the board. He hadn't really heard about it before so he wasn't going to give an answer. He would let Lianna field this one.

Alright so his question didn't seem like much of a verbal trap, of course that might've been because she'd admitted to actually looking at it while Ty hadn't. Oh well, trap or not the lesson had clearly moved along.
Babyin. Well, that sounded familiar, in fact it went all the way back to muggle primary, or, was it first years History of Magic? Either way something about it stuck out in her head and she couldn't directly put her finger on it's exact name nor origin in her mind. It's right there...why can't I think of... Her thoughts suddenly trailed off as the Hufflepuff blurted out "Babylon!" Mind you, her face turned quickly pink immediately afterward. "Sorry..." She murmured, a sheepish and weak smile pulling at her mouth.
