Linear B, the topic of the class, was written clearly on the board. He had had so much fun with this topic last year, and hoped this year would be a great experience for the students as well. Hoping the students would be able to interact with him and each other better, the professor also put a round table instead of the little rectangular tables.
He's ready, all he needed now were his 5th year students.

It didn't really surprise Celina that she was the first to walk into her Ancient Runes class. The professor was admiring his work that he had just put up on the calkboard and without notice, she slipped in expecting to sit at the normal rectangular tables that usually were there. Great, she thought to herself as she noticed a big circular table in the center of the room.
She assumed that there, was where they were supposed to sit. It meant ultimately that she would have to participate in this class a little more than she would have if she could have sat in the back of the room. She sighed and took a seat where she could clearly see the board.

Derek's main attraction to this particular class had been it seemed to be the only class that his cousin wasn't taking. If you happened to know his cousin you'd probably understand he'd expected to be in the same classes together but they'd also happened to be sorted in the same classes as well. But besides the obvious reasons for his choice it seemed like it could be a fairly interesting topic.
Noting that only one girl had arrived to the lesson already he decided to introduce himself to her, "Hi I'm Derek," he said extending his hand to her a faint smile in place.

"Professor Mason!" Ash exclaimed with much excitement as she entered the classroom and gave her Ancient Rune's teacher a hearty hug. This had been her favorite class out of all her subjects and the teacher was just oh so cute... not in a weird way or anything..
The Ravenclaw carried her light stack of books and sat on the other side of Celina, nodding to the girl with as smile as a greeting. "Ello, Celina- how's that cat of your's doing?" She glanced at the boy on her other side with curiosity. She hadn't seen him around much, perhaps once or twice, though she hadn't bothered to exchange any words.
"Ash Xin," she said, chipping in a smile for the boy. "Pleased to meet your acquaintance." For some reason- it sounded strangely polite.

Jack entered the Ancient Runes classroom smiling. He liked Ancient Runes well enough and was glad to see that there seemed to be more students in the class this time around. Noticing that the desks had been replaced with a table he decided to go and take a seat next to the only other guy in the room. Smiling he walked over to where Derek was sitting and took a seat on that side of the table. Once he had said hello to everyone he took out all of his things and wondered what they were actually going to be doing today. He had noted it was written on the board, but he didn't really have a complete understanding of what exactly that was suppose to mean.

Celina blushed slightly when she was a tad starteld when unknowingly she was being said 'hi' to by a Gryffindor she had never met before. He held out his hand in greeting and she slowly took it while saying, "My name is Celina." She smiled and hoped that her face would regain it's natural appearance.
As she was exchanging greetings and shaking hands, Celina's face lit up at the sound a a familiar voice. Ello, Celina- how's that cat of your's doing? Turning around slowly and trying to give Ash her best scoffing face she replied, "Great, and your rat?" Thinking about if she wanted to push it a tad further by saying something about how Emerald had caught something and ate it that morning, she laughed to herself, realizing that that probably wouldn't be the best of all things to do. Ash walked up to the boy and greeted him, which was shockingly polite for her. Maybe the two Ravenclaw girls had actually began to rub off on one another. Nah, Celina said to herself at the idea. Couldn't be.

"Well its nice to meet you too, Ash," Derek replied with a smile as a Ravenclaw he'd had yet to meet had introduced herself to him, "Derek Grey," he said deciding to tell her his full name as she had done.
"And its nice to meet you too Celina. That's an interesting name I don't think i've ever heard it before," he said giving her a smile as well before noting Jack had sat by him. "Hey Jack I was wondering if any of you were taking this class," he said giving the girls a chance to uninclude him in their conversation in case they just wanted to talk to each other.

Jack looked up as he heard derek's voice. He had thought that he was going to be the only one of the four in the class, but was glad to see that he wasn't. "Hey Derek, yeah I'm taking this class too. I don't know what scared the other two off." he said with a smile. He hadn't seemed to be able to convince Verina that Runes was a class that she would need later in life and he had no clue why Nico decided not to take it. Maybe for the same reasons as Verina? Who knew.

Honestly, Kenneth Mason had no idea how to react when Miss Xin gaven him a hug. Sure the gesture was very much appreciated, because at least she must love runes enough to like him. But that definitely was a first.
"Ahem, let's get started," he cleared his throat and shuffled the paper on his desk. "You will be writing your OWLs soon. Are you all ready?"

Watching the professor seem to choke a little at Ash's hug, Celina slightly giggled as she prepared her desk for the period. OWLs, who's ever ready for their OWLs? Celina said to herself as she nodded when the question was asked. She had to get the highest grades she could. Her parent's would be expecting it. There was no way she could let them down...well anymore than she had already in life. She would make them proud with her grades, even if it meant negleting what her mother had told her about making friends and connections.

"Verina i'm not sure but Nick well in his case he's not about to take an elective that isn't easy and he actually needs to think," Derek said with a slight laugh at his cousin's expense who was not their to give one of his smart remarks in kind. "To be honest the greatest appeal this class had for me was the fact that my cousin wasn't taking it. I'm sure we could convince Verina I actually like her," he said jokingly since though him and his cousin did go back and forth they did care about each other.
Derek glanced toward the front of the class as the professor began to speak. Sure..., he thought to himself at his words to be honest he wasn't really going to stress out about the whole situation. He did his work on time and he was sure though he might not be the top in his class when OWLs came around he'd do well enough.

"That could very well be Nick's reason." Jack said, with a laugh, just teasing back. He liked Nick, but wasn't going to pass up a chance to razz on him a bit. "Yeah, we'll have to work on her and see if we can't convince her to join, though I doubt it." he said still grinning. He really didn't think that there would be any way to convince her, but it was worth a shot, right? Well at least it would be fun to bug her about it.

Derek hadn't expected to make friends so quickly when he'd come to Hogwarts but he'd quickly found them. In Jack he'd found someone to mess with his cousin with which, of course, happened to be a plus. "I doubt I could convince her," he replied with a slight laugh, "I'm thinking that if anyone could convince her to join this class it'd have to be you my friend." Derek could try cornering her in their common room and threatening her with something if she didn't join but the very idea just brought amusement to his face.

Jack laughed and smiled. He wasn't even sure that he could convince Verina to take up another class, let alone Ancient Runes, but it was probably true that if anyone could convince her it would have to be him. He could be very persuading sometimes, well he could just bug her until she caved, but he wasn't sure if he would or not. After all they were already into the class and she had missed the lesson, plus he didn't know if he wanted to press his luck by bagering her into it. Nope he would much rather give her a hard time about something else, perhaps something more entertaining then school work or classes. "Yeah, but I don't think she would even then." Jack said with the smile still on his face to Derek.
