Halloween party. Did anything scream fun more so? Truth be told, Maddy had never been allowed to go trick or treating, though she knew some kids that did, and all they did was rave on and on about it. She always made sure that she had a couple of lollies to give them, even though she was sure they didn't need them, the way they almost had to drag their bags along by the time they reached her house. Maddy wished that she could spend Halloween with her sister, it would be fun to do so many costumes, as they were identical twins, but it was so festive at Hogwarts, and Maddy, well, she loved it. A couple of weeks before the date of Halloween, Maddy made sure she was ready. She didn't want to be caught out, and she knew that Hogwarts, or someone in Hogwarts, would be having a party. The ravenclaw's went trick or treating last year! Maddy only wished that she could have taken part in the tricking, and of course, the treating. It just wasn't Halloween without the lollies. Dressed in a pair of green shorts that reached midway down her upper leg and a gold shirt with a green stripe on the shoulders, Maddy had chosen to dress up as one of her heroes; Cheryl Salisbury, the captain of the Matilda's. What's the matilda's, you ask? It's the Australian Soccer team! Wandering into the room, a bright smile on her face, Maddy spotted Derrick. "Sorry I'm late." She said, her eyes closing momentarily in delight, for she was as happy as can be. She loved parties, especially those that her friends were at. "Nice costume!"

Derrick sat calmly looking around the room slowly taking it all in and couldn't feel anything short of envious of the people who occupied it. All of them had formed small packs and groups now on the dance floor or to its side and here sat him by the wall all by himself. He couldn't exactly blame anyone but himself of course he wasn't really making an effort after all he knew Matilda and he and Delilah were at least on speaking terms but both of them seemed to be immersed in conversations with their current group of friends. Jeremy was there to but he was talking to that Brenton kid who Derrick despised so that ruled him out of the equation. He was sure that he could handle his presence for a few moments just to say hi to Jeremy but this was supposed to be a fun time and a night he'd enjoy. Derrick knew full well that would be impossible to do if he had to deal with Brenton even for a second. Some how just thinking about him made the knots in his stomach return and resume their twisting and turning once more.
Derrick though glanced away focusing his attention elsewhere and smiled. At least he could enjoy the laughter that people were sharing even if he himself wasn't involved. It was in an odd sense uplifting and he couldn't help but feel a little sorry for Delilah as her attempt at the limbo bar failed. Were these people now his friends? Would it be safe to say such a thing? Derrick really had no idea and pushed the thought out of his mind because really right now it wasn't all the necessary. Looking over now he spotted who he believed to be Emma or at least that's who he assumed it was. He had only really spoken with the girl once and on that occasion she had not been in costume. Her current attire of what he assumed to be a baseball uniform wasn't all that telling especially now with a baseball cap on her head. It could just possibly be Derrick's own perception of the matter but he felt that in hats and other certain attires people looked different then they normally did. This of course was only Derrick's opinion which, he was well aware, didn't mean much.
Derrick though for a brief moment turned his head away from everyone in the room at gazed silently at the ceiling. It wasn't some kind of obvious disgust with the party because if that was the case why would he even bother to show up. He knew this wasn't his scene but Derrick came despite that in some foolish hope that Maddyson would be here. That he would be able to talk with the girl and maybe in some off shot parallel universe where he was actually good at things dance with the beautiful girl. Actually dance with her not that "fast music watch me move like an idiot and feel awkward although you could see me do this in the halls any day," dancing but more so the "let me hold you in my arms while yours are wrapped around my neck and if this is actually happening I may pass out," dancing. Derrick knew that to be impossible though and as he closed his eyes for a brief second he heard a voice that filled his body with warmth.
Her words though made him blush a very evident color of scarlet for a few reasons. Why was she apologizing they had talked about it but Derrick had even then expressed uncertainty on whether or not he'd be attending the celebration. For that matter even if they had why did she need to apologize to him it wasn't as if this was a date or anything....was it? It couldn't be. Derrick shook the particular thought from his head after all he was in no way lucky enough to actually have something that good happen to him so unexpectedly. It was the same thing with the dance there was no way it could happen. Derrick though simply smiled at her next comment looking down as to avoid eye contact hoping the blush was gone and for that matter that she hadn't noticed it in the first place.
"You're not late at all, right on time really. You look pretty good yourself though I'd offer to go kick the ball around with you but this armor doesn't exactly make for the best sports gear."
Derrick knew enough to know that she was dressed as a soccer player. If it was in fact any specific one it was beyond him which one seeing as the world of football was a vast and wide one which even he found hard to keep up with. Especially when one was away from it while they were at Hogwarts for a majority of the year. Derrick though spotted Emma still by her lonesome and gave a friendly wave hoping maybe she'd come over and join them. If not that was fine after all he was sure that by now she had made other friends and having Maddyson all to himself at the moment was nothing short of a plus. Emma was nice though and Derrick was very aware how torturous large social situations could be if one was forced to face them alone so why not be nice? Turning though he gazed at Maddyson once more and couldn't help but think once more about the possibility of a dance with her. Derrick Breckenridge knew full well though he was probably getting ahead of himself and really it was much better to just put such thoughts aside. Still it was at least worth considering or dreaming about wasn't it?

Smiling, Maddy couldn't help but fidget where she was standing. Parties always made her excited, and the fact that there was sugar there for the taking... well, that just made it sooooo much better. She wished that her whole family was here, especially Eryn and Jordyn, her twin sister and brother, but she knew that could not be. Sometimes she wished that she wasn't the one that was singled out, for she'd love to have a family around her, but she wouldn't trade magic for quids. Magic was just... awesome.
Looking around the room, Maddy marveled at the decorations and the outfits that people had gotten into. She spotted Matty and Tianne, dressed as a surf life saver wearing the outfit that she recognized from Australia and a somewhat doll-like girl, and a few other people she knew. She felt that her costume was quite plain compared to some of the other people's get ups, but she hadn't been able to do much with the small amount of things that she did have.
Adjusting her shin pads, Maddy smiled at Derrick. "I meant to come earlier, but you know me. I'm always late!" She giggled excitedly, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. She was much to excited to be able to make any interesting conversation, but that was okay. She figured that Derrick would understand. At the best of times Maddy couldn't hold up a good conversation.
"I'd kick you're butt! I mean, I am the captain of the Matildas!"

Emma had simply settled into scoping out the room. She saw a few familiar faces here and there, but there names escaped her. Of course, she recognized her basketball partner Jeremy that had chose an even more simple costume than herself. She wondered exactly what he could call that a costume of. Just being dressed in all black. Maybe he a spy. She had been thinking about going over to converse with him and another boy that she could have sworn was in her year as well but had opted to continue looking around.
At that point, she spotted Derrick with whom she had conversed with briefly. He gave her a wave and she waved back in response. There was a girl speaking with him that she didn't know the name of but liked her soccer uniform. Emma really liked the uniform that the girl was wearing but didn't recognize what team it was. The curiosity drove her to try and take a closer look. They didn't seem to be too deep in conversation, or at least she hoped, because she decided to stray beyond the corner of the room and into the mainstream.
"Happy Halloween!" Emma chimed as she approached Derrick and the girl. Since already knew Derrick, she simply nodded to him as a greeting. Still unable to figure out what team the uniform was from, she simply decided to ask.
Turning to the girl she introduced her self, "Hello, I'm Emma." Then she pointed out, "I love your costume. What team is it?"

While Brenton and Allegra either ignored one another or said their hellos (Jeremy really didn't care which it was), he looked around the room that was slowly filling up. He didn't expect to see anyone he knew, definitely no one he thought of as a friend (he didn't have very many of those). He was just happy he wasn't standing against the wall all by himself.
He did see Emma come in, that girl who liked playing basketball and getting dirty. He stood up as straight as his diminutive height would allow and gave a small smile in her direction, wondering if she saw him. Nope. Her smile was all for that idiot Hufflepuff and as she moved over to that small group, he slumped back against the wall. It probably didn't matter anyway. Brenton would probably have proclaimed her less than royal and therefore, unworthy. But then again, Jeremy fell into that category too, so maybe it would have been okay.
Stupid Hufffle kid...

Derrick knew the expression he wore on his face at the moment was not the best one but he really didn't care. It after all was something he found that he had no real control of for once in his life so he just decided to let it be. It was after all not his fault that Maddyson looked the way she did at the moment. Well that wasn't properly phrasing it in Derrick's opinion it was more so that it wasn't his fault she looked the way she did all the time. It just so happened that at the moment she look particularly beautiful even in something as simple as a soccer uniform. It could possibly be the lights or for that matter the way she herself seemed to be so at home in the atmosphere but no matter what it was Derrick found her stunning. Of course Derrick wouldn't tell her that at the moment or for that matter in any moment soon he didn't possess that kind of courage. Sure he could roam through the forbidden forest and roam the castle at night but tell Maddyson she was beautiful....Derrick was not capable of that.
Instead Derrick found the composure that he was so sorely lacking moments before and stopped staring. If he could do that then everything would be okay and maybe, just maybe, she hadn't noticed him staring. If she had what would she think of him? Possibilities raced through Derrick's mind at the mere thought of this and all of them seemed to end badly for him. She had given him no inclination that she was in fact interested in him in that sort of way and why should she? Derrick was nothing special and she...well was. Shaking himself mentally he managed a small smile, that he decided, wasn't to revealing and prayed that the his blushing had stopped despite the fact that his cheeks were noticeably warm.
"Well if that's the case then Maddy I'll just avoid ever engaging you seems to be the best thing for my pride in the matter."
Derrick wanted to smack himself for how he spoke and sounded. Maddyson sounded so light and free and he sounded like well an idiot. Waving to Emma as she approached Derrick didn't say anything as she introduced herself to Maddyson. It was after all probably for the best that he kept his mouth shut at the moment. The whole talking thing didn't seem to be working in his favor at this current juncture. Scanning the room once more he took note of Jeremy and considered waving to him but then decided it once more that it was better if he didn't. The look the boy was giving him now didn't seem all that inviting and to top it off he was still with the prince who Derrick wanted nothing to do with. Storming out of here while Maddyson was present didn't seem very classy to him. For that matter the way he attacked around Brenton wasn't healthy and it was for the better that Maddyson didn't see him like that. Granted Derrick was quite unsure if he could in fact act any way but happy around the wonderful girl that stood before him. Derrick felt himself staring again and focused on the ground once more hoping that she hadn't once again caught his gaze.

Connor looked around, wondering where to start. Some people were dressed up in pretty humorous costumes, others on the more serious or mundane side. Either way, it was pretty interesting to see everything pulling together as nicely as it was. He stuck his hands in his pockets, he turned and started towards the food - always a good place to begin in his mind. He stopped short as he saw a small figure waving rapidly at him. He stopped and hesitated as he tried to identify whom it was. The girl's hair looked familiar, but her face was somewhat covered by a mask. Whoever it was, he figured he should be polite and walk over.
" Hey there. " He set a grin upon his face, assuming that if the girl was rather excited to see him that he should be excited to see her in turn. As he neared her, however, he noticed something looked wrong. She looked like she was... well... sinking into the pumpkin she had apparently rested on.
" Erm... Delilah? " He wasn't positive, but when he got close enough to see the small girl better he was able to identify her a bit better. " Need a hand? " He grinned as he offered his arm to her, hoping she wasn't really stuck. He didn't know who had sunk into a pumpkin, but he supposed there was a first for everything. He tossed a look over his shoulder and saw a female baseball player enter the room shortly followed by a life sized doll. It was a bit eerie, but he was thoroughly impressed.

Delilah kept her hands on the sides of the huge pumpkin, trying to keep herself from going in any farther. Yes, she had waved at Connor, and yes she was excited to see him... At first. Now however, she was pretty embarassed to be seen sinking into a pumpkin, and the fact that Connor was a good friend, made it a little worse. However, he knew her pretty well, and he probably knew by now that she was a complete and total clutz. She hoped he wouldn't approach, but he did, and hadn't poked fun at her... yet.
She sighed though and swallowed her pride as he offered her his arm. She grabbed his arm firmly and slowly lifted herself out. She really tried hard not to make the situation worse by dragging him down with her. "Thank you!" she said happily, scanning her friend once again. "Great costume! You look great..." She said, looking down at herself, happy to realize that she wasn't full of pumpkin goo or anything of the sort. Delilah looked back at the pumpkin, and watched as it turned back into a comfy looking sort of chair for a Halloween party. She laughed at herself, one could never be too careful in a magical world.
Delilah turned back to Connor and smiled, "And how are you this evening?" She asked, still a little upset that nobody wanted to limbo, but perhaps later on tonight people would become more lively. She glanced around the room, happy to see that a few more, perhaps livlier, faces had come to the party. "Having fun yet?" She asked sarcastically, giving Connor her crooked smile.
