She had no good reason to be anywhere.
It was a day that Sophia often wished for but never expected. All of her homework was finished and neatly packed into her bag for the next day. Her quills were sharpened to a perfect point, and her four poster bed was impeccably clean. It was beautifully sunny outside and there was a slight breeze that echoed through the halls on occasion. She always thought that on a carefree day something exciting, extraordinary, would happen. She was very disappointed.
She spend most of her morning in the Great Hall, eating and then reading a muggle book. It was a lovely book, really, about three little orphaned children and a Count, and a troupe of unsavory characters. It was thrilling, and the stories, although intended for the younger crowd, captivated her fully. She was already on the 7th book. Her parents continued to owl her a new book each week in the hopes of feeding her reading appetite. She could have gone to the library, however, but she had read most of them...well...the fictional tales anyway.
It was around noon now and lunch was probably being served. Sophia realized that she really wasn't that hungry now. The only hunger she had now was one for adventure, or for something, anything, to happen. She walked through the empty, sunny halls, occasionally looking through the windows, searching for a sign of others. Right now it felt like Sophia was the only one in the castle, like everyone else had mysteriously vanished. They obviously didn't Apparate, that was for sure.
Wherever everyone had gone, they took the fun with them. What was she going to do now?
She looked back outside to the green grass, a blossoming tree swaying gracefully in the wind. Back and forth it rhythmically moved, and a few birds perched on a branch. She didn't hear the footsteps behind her and practically jumped five feet into the air when she felt a hand on her shoulder.

Delilah didn't feel like going to the Great Hall for lunch. She actually really didn't want to see anyone at all right now. So, when all else failed, it was time to go visit the Kitchens. She had walked in and out with ease, the elves loved her, and she was happy to see them too. She quickly grabbed a muffin, and an orange juice, and walked away. She was thinking of perhaps going to the Towers, scope out the view.
There she was, munching, walking, sipping, munching, sipping, walking, she had a rhythm going. She smiled as students passed her by on the way to the Great Hall. They simply started back. Jeeze, was no one in a good mood? Delilah shrugged, almost done her muffin, and stepping off the last flight of steps to the Towers.
Wait a second... this wasn't where the Towers were... She had gotten off the wrong steps. She sighed, not wanting to look like an idiot, turning around to go back, especially when she was a sixth year. Wasn't she supposed to know where she was going? And she had a keen sense of where she was and where she was going, and had never gotten lost before. She supposed there was a first time for everything.
Delilah was walking fast now, just wanting to get where she wanted to be. She hadn't noticed that she had split some orange juice, that landed right in front of her, and what do you know, she slipped, and grabbed the closest thing next to her to catch her balance... another student.

"Yikes!!!" Sophia bounded into the air and just as quickly landed on the ground, feet first. Her heart was positively racing as she turned around. It looked like her theories of vanishing students was disproved by a girl gripping a muffin. The girl felt the force of the other on her shoulder and tried her best to straighten her out. She tried to turn all the way around but found herself sliding on a bit of orange juice. She stood up and looked at her.
"Are you okay?" She looked at the girl's face for any sort of indication of hurt. There was shock on Sophia's own face, that was for sure. "I'm Sophia, by the way." She didn't want to seem like a complete stranger. She stood there for a second, trying to catch her breath and trying to keep her heart from leaping away. Her hand slowly raised to her chest. "That was a close one."

Delilah was completely embarrassed. She had always been so accident prone. Sometimes she wished this wasn't so. She hadn't meant to grab onto another person, and she felt terrible for doing so now. She watched as the girl slipped too, and tried to help her stay up. Some how, they had managed to keep the other up, and they were still on their own two feet. Delilah sighed, looking up at the girl, smiling slightly.
"I am so sorry," she said, huffing a breath of air so a lock of her hair shot straight up, she was flushed and embarrassed, "Sophia is it? Delilah, I totally owe you." She had no idea where this upbeatness came from. Wasn't she despising everyone today? Just because she wanted to? Oh well, mood swings. She looked to the floor, where orange juice was everywhere. "Nah, I still have this." She said, holding up her muffin triumphantly. And where was this quirkiness coming from? Must've been the Hufflepuff in her...

"Oh, don't even worry about it. I'm glad you didn't totally crash and burn." Wait, what? Crash and burn? That didn't make the least bit of sense. I'm great at first impressions. The girl lamented to herself. "Delilah's a really pretty name...I like it." It reminded her of that Bible story of the woman named Delilah...but she was pretty devious. This Delilah seemed a bit more relaxed.
Sophia glanced at the sticky orange juice mess. "Tergeo?" She waved her wand gracefully through the air and the mess disappeared. "Fantastic!" It just so happened that Sophia took Latin as her language of choice back home, and a lot of the Latin words were spells. It worked out wonderfully most times for her, but the others were a surprise.

Delilah grinned. Crash and burn eh? Now that would be interesting. For a human to actually do anyways. If Delilah wasn't flushed already, she was now, no one had ever commented on her name like that before. She really didn't mind though, it made her smile. "Thank you!" She said. And although the other girl didn't know it, Delilah could be quite devious, not manipulative like that girl in the Bible, but she liked to play pranks. She would count that as devious.
The Slytherin girl watched as Sophia cleared up the mess, and nodded with approval, "Nice." She said, grinning. Delilah usually didn't say what was on her mind often, but she liked to with the people that made a good impression on her, "So, what is Sophia up to on a nice day like this?" She ventured off, still nibbling on her muffin, until it was gone. She smiled a smile full of muffin crumbs.

The girl giggled as Delilah displayed a mouthful of muffin. "Well..." Actually, that was a very good question...what was she doing inside?
"I guess that I just decided to lurk about the castle today. I'm more of an inside person myself, but I do love the outdoors when there's something to do." She loved the sun and its warmth, but didn't have anyone to go outside with. Going outside alone isn't too much fun for a social girl like herself. "I guess I'm just aimlessly wandering, is all. How about yourself?"

Delilah shrugged, "I was trying to avoid all human contact today..." she said, suddenly realizing she might offend this girl. "But you know, outside does sound like fun, care to join me?" She offered, a grin sweeing over her delicate features. Delilah was about to go outside, despite the fact that it was beautiful outside, there was hardly a soul out there. It'd be quiet, but the girl could get to know Sophia more.
Delilah proceeded to clap her hands together in such a way that made all the muffin crumbs that were left, fall on the floor. She looked at Sophia a little closer, the two girls seemed the same age... "So what house are you in Sophia?" She asked, trying to engrain the girl's name into her memory, for future reference and such.

"I'd love to venture outside with you!" she said with a smile. Life was always more fun with spontaneity. If Sophia hadn't been wandering aimlessly, she wouldn't have had the pleasure to meet Delilah, a girl she was really getting along with.
"What House? The great Gryffindor, but of course!" Sophia struck a superhero pose. She laughed before regaining her composure. "My mum was praying for Ravenclaw, and I guess it would've suited me fine." Now that she thought about it, she would have made a great eagle, all except for the fact that she loved lions and that her favorite colors since birth were red and gold. "I think I was born to be a Gryff, to be honest. And what house are you in?" She thought the girl might have been a Hufflepuff for her sweet nature, but assumptions weren't always her strong point.

Delilah already had a smile upon her face, but having this girl want to spend time with her, just made her smile brighter. She was so pumped to be getting along so well with someone.
The Slytherin girl couldn't help but laugh as Sophia struck her pose. The girl had quite a laugh, it was a loud snort, and was her real laugh. Usually when she laughed, she tried to keep it light, so she wouldn't slip, but with the look on Sophia's face as she posed, Delilah just couldn't simply keep it light.
After composing herself a bit, and listened. It seemed like both girls felt like they weren't in the same house. "It seems like a great house to be honest, I wish I was brave sometimes." She said, with a big grin. "I'm from Slytherin myself, it's not... that... bad..." She said. She honestly hated it. She hated being judged because apparently she was supposed to be mean. This just wasn't so. "My mum was a Slytherin," she went on, "my dad was a Hufflepuff. To be honest, I wish I was there." She said. Delilah had started walking at this point, heading for the great outdoors, and hoped, that Sophia would still come.

Sophia beamed when Delilah let out her snort. It was funny and cute, and completely unexpected. The two girls were getting along like peas in a pod, like PB&J, like...well...like things that go together.
"I'm from Slytherin myself, it's not... that... bad... My mum was a Slytherin, my dad was a Hufflepuff. To be honest, I wish I was there."
Sophia was blown away. Delilah was a Slytherin...a snake? That's weird. Well, not all Slytherins are evil. I mean, Connor isn't at all evil. In fact, he's one of my close friends. Maybe I'm destined to have Slytherin BFFs. That's not a horrible fate. Sophia snapped out of her aside to herself and looked back pleasantly at Delilah who was walking towards the staircase.
"I think you would've made a great Huffle, but you're probably in Slytherin for a reason. Maybe you're meant to be there to break the reputation or something?" she said as she hurried to walk alongside Delilah.

Delilah was totally delighted. Maybe she could break the Slytherin mold, she was doing a good job so far. Anyone she met that was from Slytherin found her interesting, and anyone outside of her house, found her superb. Perhaps Sophia was right... She could very well be in the house for a great reason. Just thinking about it made Delilah beam, afterall, it wasn't everyday she heard that she could change the facts. Which weren't really facts anymore now, were they? Delilah was so happy that Sophia had continued walking with her, and off they went, to the great outdoors, "So do you play Quidditch or anything?" She asked. The last time she went outside with someone, they spoke of Quidditch, well, she did mostly. Poor Dante knew nothing of the sport, but she was happy to inform him all about it. Delilah was thinking this might turn into a pretty great day afterall.

"I wish!" Sophia sighed dreamily. "I'm hoping to learn how to fly a broom over the summer, and play for my House next year...maybe as a Chaser!" The idea excited her but a small part of her was withdrawn; she wanted to introduce her father to this world, this wonderful world of magic and pure imagination, but not too fast. Hopefully she would be able to buy a broom and learn...maybe even during school when the weather was nice! Oh, but she'd have to find someone to help....
"I've studied some of the more novice books about it, the basics. I think I'd rather be a Chaser than, well, a Beater. I'd feel so horrible about beating a zooming ball at someone else!" She smiled at the girl, wondering if she played the game. She felt bad about not really showing up at the games, but she was always so absent-minded and forget when they were. Even if she did remember, she never had anyone to go with.
"What about you? Do you play?"

Delilah laughed, which was followed by a grin, "I happen to be a Beater myself, we don't just try getting the other players, we're also trying to protect our own." She said, looking down to her feet for no apparant reason, then back up to Sophia, "It's hard work you know." She said, still grinning. She wasn't insulted or anything, just trying to make being a Beater, look more appealing than what the books said.
"I'm not on the team or anything, I play with my family and such, but that's about it. I don't want to look like a fool here..." She said, smiling. "I could probably help you around the pitch if you want..." She offered, wondering if Sophia would take the offer or not. It was totally up to her though, and Delilah wouldn't mind if she didn't take up on the offer. But if Sophia had studied up on it a bit already, Delilah wouldn't have to do much but help her actually do what the texts said.

"Oh, that would be fantastic!" The girl was excited to meet another Quidditch enthusiast, if she could even call herself that. Knowing that Delilah could at least fly was enough for her to want help, but that she could also teach Beating? That was even better! Being a well-rounded player never hurt. "You play Quidditch with your family? That's so cool! My father's a muggle, so he has no idea what Quidditch is to begin with. I've seen my mum's family play once, just for fun, when I visited them in France. It looked like so much fun." In fact, one of her uncles was a famous player for the French National Quidditch Team, but she could never remember what team he was on. She would've asked him for some pointers but he was always at practice...and in France.
"We should definitely do that soon, whenever I can find a broom. What kind is the best to buy?" Delilah probably knew more about broom types than Sophia, and she didn't want to buy a broom without a second person's advice.
