[ Physical Character Description: ] Newt is quite tall for his age, around 5’10’’, though he has stopped growing. He has short dark brown hair that he often combs forward if he takes the time to actually care about his appearance. He has an angular face with bright brown eyes. He is of medium build that he is able to maintain through a mixture of jogging and Quidditch, by playing the position of Beater. He has fair skin that is quite easily sunburned and has a small scar on his upper left chest. He often wears form-fitting clothes such as blue jeans and a t-shirt. He wears a silver necklace with a small silver cross.
[ Personality Character Description: ] Newt, oddly enough, is quite lazy despite his active role in sports. He’d prefer it if there were days to simply lie about and do nothing. He’s quite sarcastic and witty, often prone to playing harmless jokes on his friends and peers. He doesn’t like to be serious often, thinking more of enjoying life than worrying about it. During the times where he’s actually serious, he tends to be awkward with it. He’s also friendly, though not very talkative or willing to share his “thoughts” for fear of saying the wrong thing. Newt is also sensitive about his name, thinking it’s quite dorky, and won’t think twice of hexing someone if they make fun of it. Despite his happy-go-lucky character, he’s smart though doesn’t like to show it much. He’s also prone to giggling sometimes during nervousness, which is something Newt is sad to say. It often pops during inopportune times though, like increased times of pressure or seriousness.
[ History: ] Newton was born to Cynthia Nebilim and Arnold Coernicus in Berlin, Germany on November 4th. It was his father’s homeland and it was there that he was brought up. Though, his mother believed Berlin wasn’t truly a suitable place for them to raise a young wizard and decided to bring up her fears with her husband. Though Arnold didn’t really want to move, he did agree that it was somewhat an unfit place to bring up a child, himself being roughed up and put through hardships when he was young. They both decided to continue raising Newt in Berlin till he was four, then move to Portsmouth, England, the place where his mother hails from.
Newt was raised in a small mansion in Berlin, where he and his mother and father lived in splendor. His father’s side of the family was quite well-off due to a shipping company that they owned. Cynthia believed that living in such luxury would spoil Newt. She wanted him to be raised in modest lifestyle, a life that she was brought up by. So when Newt turned four, they moved to England.
They moved into a small, comfortable home in Portsmouth. It was hard for Arnold since all his life, he was living with a gold spoon in his mouth. As time passed on, he began to slowly resent Cynthia. Newt began to age and was taught by his mother, who was a magic tutor. He began to take a sudden interest in his mother’s work. Newt loved the textbooks about charms, transfiguration, and magical animals. The pictures were fascinating and fun to look at as they moved all around. He couldn’t wait till he was of age to practice magic.
Newt’s first act of unintentional magic was when he was nine. He was playing a practical joke on one of his muggle friends that went wrong. His plan was to dump red jelly on his friend when he entered his home. Instead, it got all over Newt’s father. Not wanting to be there, he accidentally turned himself invisible and hid under his bed. Despite the fact that Arnold was mad at his son, he was proud that he was showing magical abilities.
As time went on, it became more awkward for Newt’s mother and father. Ever since Arnold moved to England with Cynthia, his family disowned him. They would welcome him with open arms if he went back to Germany without Cynthia and Newt. Arnold would’ve gladly went back to Germany, except for the fact that he still loved Cynthia and Newt but his pride got in the way of fixing things with Cynthia. Newt made it his personal mission for his family to become more tight-knit. Newt hated how awkward things became for his parents and how they seemed to be walking on eggshells around each other. It is through this that he develops such a happy-go-lucky lifestyle, not really wanting to focus on the negative aspects of life.
As Newt turned eleven, he received his letter from Hogwarts. He was ecstatic that he was able to go to Hogwarts, after researching the school when he was about to turn eleven, though was scared at the same time. The longest he had been away from his family would be a week, knowing that Hogwarts was a boarding school and would be away from his mother and father for a year, not counting vacations. Newt knew the consequences of leaving but his parents assured him that it was an amazing opportunity and unforgettable experience. Hoping that Hogwarts would give him the abilities to restore his family once again, he decided to attend Hogwarts.
[ Pros and Cons : ] Newt is known to be truly loyal to his family and friends, and would do anything for them. He is also known for his wit and dry humor, known to make others laugh when needed. Newt is also very knowledgeable of magical creatures, transfiguration and charms. He’s trustworthy…to a certain degree, and always seems to carry himself in a matter befitting a jovial jester.
Despite those things going for Newt, he has many flaws. He is practically famous for his laziness and he is a firm practitioner and supporter of the art of procrastination. Though he’s trustworthy, Newt has a hard time trusting others. He’s also somewhat awkward with the opposite sex, often stumbling through his words.
[Role Playing Example:]
Newt stared at the ceiling, quite amazed that he wasn’t able to fall asleep. He was usually famed for his ability to fall asleep at a pin drop’s notice. Unfortunately for the young man, he wasn’t able to this night. So Newt simply sat on his soft mattress, the comforter pooled around his side as he lowered his gaze from the ceiling to the brown lifeless cotton-filled fluffball that was sitting at the edge of his bed. It’s huge, unblinking black eyes stared back at Newt, as if challenging him. It was a gift from one of his muggle friends in Portsmouth. She was a cute little thing. The teddy bear was a farewell gift to him. She even had the courtesy of naming the stupid bear for him: Mr. Fluzzles
Yep…that girl was cute, but she wasn’t exactly the sturdiest broom in the broomshed. Wait, that didn’t make sense. Wasn’t the fastest broom in the world…? Newt wasn’t exactly well-versed in the art of wizarding lingo.
His eyes focused on Mr. Fluzzles, his thoughts going back to the incident that happened just mere hours before. He saw this girl and was working up the nerve to say hi. He actually was able to say hi to the girl without tripping over his words. Heck, even his nervous giggling didn’t appear. Everything was going his way amazingly and he was about to impress her this cool wand trick he learned. That was before his amazing bad luck decided to rear its ugly head,
“How was I supposed to know that spell was going to turn her yellow.” He complained to the teddy bear, running a frustrated hand through his short brown hair. At least she managed to maintain her cool, he thought. She only slapped him once, which was decent of her.
The bear stayed quiet, probably keeping its words to itself. Instead, it simply continued to stare at Newt with its condescending black eyes,
“Don’t patronize me!” Newt proclaimed, pointing a blaming finger at the lifeless toy, “I know where you sleep…” he ended dramatically, letting the threat linger.
He leaned back into his pillow, bringing the blanket over his head as he tried to let sleep claim him. He yawned as his eyes slowly began to close,
“Stupid Mr. Fluzzles…” Newt muttered as he felt sleep finally take him.
