Welcome to the Ministry! Have a pleasant day.
[ Full Character Name: ] Benjamin London
[ Character Gender: ] Male
[Character Age:] 17
[ Position: ] Auror-in-training
[ Country of Citizenship: ]
[Years of Employment at Ministry:] none yet
[ Physical Character Description: ] Calling Benjamin London “tall” would be an insult to the boy. He is gargantuan, standing at 6’4” and towering over everyone in his family, including his older siblings and his father. Where he inherited such height is a sheer mystery, but he’s not complaining. Ben has a large frame and is very muscular. The boy gives off the impression of being absolutely terrifying, when really, he’s one of the nicest guys anyone will ever meet. His height is what scares people, as someone towering over them would really frighten anyone, but Ben is far from that.
Ben has very soft features, and a boyish grin to match his boyish charm. His hair is a complete mess, usually covering his eyes and making it nearly impossible for him to see much of anything. Once in a while, he’ll decide to try and fight with it, but he knows it’s a battle that he will always loser. No matter what.
[ Personality Character Description: ] Who is Benjamin London? The boy has been described as someone who is flamboyant, yet angry. He can be alarmingly simple, and then suddenly dark and complicated. Usually, Ben is calm and collected, but when anger hits, it hits hard. One thing that really sets Ben off is when he sees a damsel in distress. Not that he tries to play the knight in shining armour, but he wouldn’t be able to walk away from a girl in trouble, or anyone in trouble for that matter. His weakness is that he cares too much, and is always trying to help people. Ben is the kind of guy that would take the fall for something that one of his friends had done, no matter what the consequences may be in the long run.
Sarcasm. Every other sentence that comes out of this boy’s mouth is sarcastic on some level. Most of the time, his sarcasm is funny, and doesn’t offend anyone, but more than once he’s said the wrong thing to the wrong person at the wrong time and well, that pretty much speaks for itself. Sarcasm is Ben’s defense mechanism. He usually makes a joke or sarcastic comment when he’s nervous or uneasy. It’s just his thing, and he’s done it for ever.
Ben finds it rather difficult to control his anger sometimes. His anger generally comes out in Quidditch matches, and he gets extremely competitive. He hates to lose, and he can be a poor sport at times. Ben is also very aggressive when it comes to Quidditch, and his only position is Beater. He played the Muggle sport “baseball” when he was younger, and so he has a pretty strong swing. Ben is also one that would not give up easily. He can be extremely stubborn, and once his mind is set, it usually cannot be changed. Ben London was brought up in a proud household of Muggles, and was taught to hold his head high and strive for his goals. However, with confidence sometimes comes stubbornness, a trait Ben has definitely inherited. He’s working on it…
[ History: ] Benjamin London is a very strange boy indeed. This is his story.
Ben was born on a bitterly cold day in December, the 13th to be exact, but it just so happens that that 13th had been a Friday. It was the exact date that the Muggle doctor had told his Muggle parents that he was going to born on, and it was the first and only occasion where Ben has ever been on time. Being on time was the only good thing about Ben’s birth. Most Muggle babies are born once the mother has gotten into a hospital bed and is all settled in, but Ben, destined to be different, was born between the two sets of doors in the hospital. Unable to stay in any longer, Benjamin London was the 4th born child of the 6 London children, to Martha and Peter.
Growing up in a household of 6 children was the farthest possibly thing from a bed of roses. Fighting and crying, jokes and laughter never ceased to reverberate off the walls of the London household for many years. One would think that with so many children, more than one of them would be a witch or wizard, but sadly, Ben was the only one to inherit the trait from some ancient relatives. Making things happen that he could never explain, his siblings (older and younger) tease him constantly calling him a freak, and the ever popular name of “Fed-Ex”. His brothers and sisters were convinced that the Muggle mail company called Fed-Ex had dropped him off at their house one day, which earned him that nickname. Ben however, didn’t care in the slightest. Even without any magical training, Ben could, on occasion, control the strange happenings that seemed to be surrounding him.
On his 11th birthday, Ben’s parents had thrown him a surprise part, inviting all his friends from school to their house, even though there was barely enough room for the family that actually lived there. It wasn’t until later in the day that Ben discovered the reasoning behind the weird things going on, and it “hit” him rather hard. Literally. Standing on the front porch, waving goodbye to his friends, an owl crashed into the side of Ben’s head. Upon opening the letter that the owl had in its beak, Ben was positive that it was a joke of some kind. Surely there couldn’t be some kind of school where magic was taught to kids like himself, that was just silly. Dismissing any glimmer of hope he might have had that such a place could exist, Ben continued on with his life. It had been a few days until he received another letter, dropped off by an owl. Ben was starting to think that perhaps he had been wrong. Maybe there really was such a magically place called Hogwarts. Maybe.
Glory and riches was not something that the London family had much of. With 6 children to provide for, money was scarce and the latest toys and fashion were not always in reach for Ben and his siblings. When it had been confirmed that Hogwarts truly existed, Ben was over-joyed. Finally, he felt like there was a place where he would actually belong, but that dream was quickly shattered as his parents brought on the news that books and accessories that were needed for school were far too expensive. He could attend a different school where such expensive things were not needed. At first, Ben wasn’t so crazy over the idea, but he decided it was better than nothing. Attending a small, unknown wizarding school that was closer to the London home than Hogwarts, Ben exceeded in almost every class, except Potions. Potions was just not a good experience. The other classes for some reason, just seemed to come naturally to Ben. His best were Charms and Transfiguration, but his favourite was Defense Against the Dark Arts, even though he wasn’t so hot in that particular area. He became fascinated with the Dark Arts, wanting to know everything about it, but also, every way to counter-attack.
In Ben’s last year at the other school (would have been 5th if he was at Hogwarts), the London family came into some money as Ben’s father was promoted in his job. They were finally able to send Ben to Hogwarts to finish up his magical training at one of the best wizarding schools in the world.
[ Special talents/knacks : ] Most of Ben’s talents lie in the areas of Charms and Transfiguration. He is very skilled in this are, and he also has a vast knowledge of the Dark Arts, much to his mother’s displeasure.
[Writing/Role Playing Example:] Ben walked down to the kitchen for breakfast. It was just around noon, so to everyone else, it was lunch, except for the boy who had been up all night making mysterious phone calls from his bathroom. Scratching himself inappropriately, Ben pulled his falling pajama pants back up and sat at the table. With a yawn, the teenager inquired about food.
“Mum, what’s for breakfast?” he asked, scratching the mop of fuzz he called hair that was perched on top of his head. His mother simply smiled and shook her head, and then informed the boy that “breakfast” had already been served and eaten, as well as lunch, and that the family was going out. Of course, the teen-aged boy decided to stay behind. I’d stab myself in the eye with my wand before I went on anymore ‘family outings’ Ben thought bitterly. He remembered the last one only too well, and didn’t want to rehash that one.
Ben watched the members of his family (all 8 of them) run around, trying to get things ready. The middle boy sat there at the kitchen table with his feet up on the table. His mother walked past and pushed them off, but Ben merely waited until she was out of sight before he put them back up. His family left and Ben London was alone in this small house once again. Getting an idea, and hearing his stomach growl unhappily, Ben figured he could just make himself some food. Surely he wasn’t going to burn down the whole house if something went wrong…
Wiggling his fingers as he looked for the ingredients, Ben decided on attempting the creative art of making pancakes. He’d seen his mother do it, and it didn’t look too hard. How terribly wrong the boy was. After a few moments, the batter was ready to go in the frying pan, but as Ben poured it in, he was distracted by something shiny. He was quickly slapped back into reality as the sound of the batter spilling over filled the house (which sounded oddly like his mother when she yelled at him), and it scared the knickers off the poor cat that had been slumbering in the shade on the window sill.
“Oh, bugger! Ooooh, bugger, bugger!” exclaimed Ben. This was definitely not how his mother made pancakes…
