Juan Marcos, Professor of Astronomy at Hogwarts
A DEMON IN OUR MIDST?
September 1st
We regret to inform our public that their children may be in danger. As we stated a few weeks ago, the administration at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has been attempting to fill the spots left behind by spooked professors, who either abandoned their posts, or were forced to retire prematurely. This is all well and good, but we were shocked to discover that, aside from the new appointments mentioned in our previous article, another position was filled; Professor of Astronomy.
We were further astonished to learn that the position had been filled by a vampire. Yes, you read correctly, a vampire. He goes by the name of Juan Marcos and has apparently been in the wizarding community for some time, though he has only just made that public knowledge now. Where he was hiding before this time is still, as of yet, unknown. He refuses to divulge any information on his kind to the Ministry or the press.
This poses a question, where exactly do this creature’s loyalties lie? If the public remembers, vampires, among other fell creatures, were great willing supporters of You-Know-Who each time he came to power. The Ministry has assured us that this is not the case with Marcos, that, as a matter of fact, he was quite cooperative with the Ministry during those times. But who can really be sure?
When asked for comment, Marcos slammed his door in our faces.
The astronomy class is held at midnight in the Astronomy Tower; truly an ideal time for a vampire, it being the middle of their “day”. But do we really want to trust our children, alone, in a remote location in the middle of the night, with a vampire? It does not help matters that astronomy is a required class for all students up until their 5th year of schooling. The Ministry has decided to place an auror in charge of keeping an eye on the vampire, but they are not allowed to be present during the actual class. And with their recent failures, can the Ministry really be depended on?
"There is no way I am trusting my child with a-a-a bloodsucker!" a distressed parent wailed when informed of the situation by one of our reporters. We received similar reactions from other parents upon questioning.
Such sentiments were echoed by other citizens, even those without children to be concerned of, “I don’t trust those creatures,” one wizard declared, “And I don’t like the idea of the future of our community being corrupted by them.”
The head of the school was not available for comment.
And there you have it. Has the administration of Hogwarts gone batty? Has the Ministry become so lax as to allow a vampire into one of the few safe havens of the wizarding world? Is this vampire playing us for fools so that he can corrupt our children? Parents and citizens alike seem to think so. Apparently tightening of the security in Hogwarts didn’t include an anti-vampire clause.
Could Juan Marcos simply be a vampire with a passion for the stars and a willingness to share with others or he could have some ulterior motive? We leave it to the public to decide for themselves.
