Accepted! Welcome to Hogwarts.
[ Full Character Name:] Desideria Marina Tapia
[ Character Gender:] Female
[Character Age:] 39 (September 26, 1969)
[ Position:] Potions Professor
[ Country of Citizenship:] U.K.
[ Wand:] Blackberry and Phoenix Tail Feather
[ Physical Character Description:]
Desideria is a very plain looking woman, one who has all attributes of the mind, but nothing fabulous about the physical aspects. Hispanic by her father, English by her mum, she has a nice mesh of looks, though nothing extremely appealing.
Large, very rich, dark brown eyes, accented only by the natural color of her eyelashes. The coloring is so dark, the iris' almost look black, but upon a close inspection, one is able to see the shade of brown. Hair that is soft and saw some of the worst times during the seventies, due to her mum's tasteless fashion sense and Desideria being too young to tell her mum about her complaints of what she was forced into wearing, she finds it surprising she has any hair left at all. Desideria's hair is shoulder length, and naturally wavy, though she loves to play around with it, finding it to be her only personal thought of physical beauty on her. The dark brown hair is full, thick, and bouncy. Although the seventies may have taken its toll on her hair, it seems her hair has done the favor of turning out well.
Though she may not be of magnificent beauty, she keeps a good maintenance on herself. Make-up, waxing, and everything else is a routine for the woman, much as everything in her life seems to be. Having gone through a horrible bout of Dragon Pox when she was younger, she encountered the humiliation of having to deal through a great majority of her life with pockmarks because of the effects of the illness, however, has since learned different kinds of ways to conceal the horrid things. Sometimes, she has a tendency to forget her daily slab of potion though and will walk around for hours without realizing the uncovered mess upon her face.
Standing at an overall of 5'4” she is not an extremely tall woman, nor is she an extremely thin one. Preferably, she cares not about her weight as much as some do and is of a rather plump kind. Though some may believe this to take away from her authority as she is not of the fittest, she finds herself in good hands most of the time and cares not to conform merely for the man.
Clothing is clothing. Hardly seen outside of a robe, except occasionally in her dressing gown when she may be running late and doesn't have the time nor the mind to change into correct uniform, she hardly owns a piece of muggle clothing. There are a few bits and pieces thrown in together, but nothing that actually belongs together. For example, Desideria may walk around in a plaid skirt with knee high socks that are striped and of different colors, with a print t-shirt and just for effect, a sombrero.
[ Personality Character Description:]
How can a person truthfully describe a person of such exuberance as that of Desideria? One can only begin on the topmost layers.
Always willing to help a person, Desideria is extremely helpful and as kind as can be in situations of the sort. While she loves to explain and get her hands dirty in certain areas of life, she is not experienced in many areas enough to really provide any kind of service. Though she is willing to do what she can, many times, it either is not enough or it turns out disastrously because of the lack of experience.
Brilliant by way of the mind, Desideria is only brilliant enough in the areas and subjects she cares to even open a book to take a peek at. Potions, Herbology, and a few other areas are the only ones she knows much about. Wand work is a specialty, though she has nothing to brag about in the area. Trivia of little facts and things of such petty importance seem to stick to her mind for no apparent reason, and things that are of great importance can filter in one ear and right out the other.
Something that is extremely good for the woman is her meticulousness. Whether in the measuring of ingredients for a potion, the aim of her spell work, or the correct wording on a board, she is very precise about how things most be done, work, and happen. There are rules and regulations for a reason, people must abide by them. Desideria knows that one wrong thing, too much of one ingredient, one too many stirs the wrong way, one small infraction of an instruction, and things can go horribly wrong. Therefore, her need of perfection merely for her aspect of chosen work, has done enough to make sure she keeps on her toes with such things.
Social gatherings are where Desideria is comfortable, though she can be highly opinionated which loses her points in the area of social structure. While Desideria may be extremely kind in situations, she can also be easily irritated. She is brash and prone to giving into a rage at times when things don't go accordingly. As well as her temper, she is over-critical. If a student's potion is not of quality she expects (and she does not expect the best of the best), she may have a few snide remarks in her pocket, though nothing over-the-line. And while she may be quick to anger, she never stays angry very long and often forgets bouts of such behavior.
Finding every day to never be dull, Desideria does what she can with the time she has. Never will you see the woman not doing something of some sort; whether crocheting herself a sweater, planting a transplanting a flower in her office, or teaching a few special lessons to students she believes can do better than they really are or who may approach her about her subject, she loves having busy work.
Unable to comprehend emotions, she may come off as cold. Everything stays bottled within, except praise for those who work hard to deserve it and rage when she is angry. Not someone to be turned to during times of emotional highs, Desideria would not be the type of person most people would be willing to tell their problems to as she will listen, but not offer the kind of advice one may be in search of.
Because of her meticulous behavior, Desideria is also a perfectionist. Things must be done correctly and right on the mark, otherwise it spells disaster. Also a straightedge, it is unlikely Desideria would be willing to overlook the behavior of students who do not follow the rules.
[ History: ]
Born on September 26, 1969 in Wolverhampton, England, Desideria was a bouncing baby girl weighing in at an above normal weight for any newborn. Her parents, Gregorio and Pearl Tapia, were a happy couple with mild problems within their marriage that were soon to escalate at a rate unknown to many.
Gregorio was born to Hispanic parents who immigrated to England in hopes of finding a new beginning to their new life. While they remained in contact with their families over the many years, neither of them remained close as they would have preferred to do. After nearly ten years together, they finally gave birth to their oldest, and only son, Gregorio Alberto Tapia. Gregorio was followed soon after by two sisters, Alejandra and Alicia, all of which were muggle born, never having heard of such things as witches and wizards other than in tales of old.
Gregorio went to school, and finishing school, before meeting the woman of his dreams, a girl nearly ten years younger than himself.
Born as a half-blood, Pearl attended a smaller school than that of Hogwarts, her father not wanting his daughter to endure being so far away from her loving and doting family. An only child, and the daughter of a wizard who was well off in many terms, Pearl Irene Kipling was a girl of a magnificent mind. Top of her class from the beginning, she was more fond of reading books than of chasing creatures. However, one summer, during break, she met a man of much charm. Gregorio Tapia was an intriguing man, much more so than any she'd met before then. He was not only of interesting mind, but of a good family who had done well for themselves in the years they'd made themselves known in the town of Wolverhampton.
After many long, educated discussions and enduring nights of loving one another's company; courtship began between the two. Approval came from all around as both families much enjoyed the other, and the wedding came not long after Pearl had completed her schooling, in which time Gregorio was nearing the age of thirty.
The marriage lasted happily for a couple of years, at the end of which their only child Desideria was born. It was soon after there were troubles brewing. It seemed Pearl was no longer as engaged as she once was with the man she married and had gone astray a bit. Gregorio stayed around only for his daughter's sake, in which he taught her as much as he could at her young age about her heritage on his side as well as as much of the Spanish language her mind could endure.
At the age of seven, Gregorio could no longer handle what the marriage had become, and left. A note stated what had happened, where he could be found if the desire ever came, and the one thing he regretted was that he never took his daughter with him.
Desideria remained in her mum's care, much to the dislike of her taste, but she found out more about the life she was to live being with the woman than she would've had she been in her father's care. Pearl was a very shallow woman, bright, but shallow. Often times Desideria would be left alone, to fend for herself. As her mother did not care as much as she could have about her daughter, finding her to be a dirty person for the fact of not being pure blooded, Pearl sent Desideria away to Hogwarts, a place where she was sure the girl would be taken care of and be brought up as well as a filthy person could have been, for she could never have attended a prestigious school such as the one her mum had attended.
At Hogwarts, Desideria was not one to be pushed around, though she wasn't a bully. The young woman merely cared to show her own opinions on matters that she found to matter, and could care less about other such things. There were few subjects she took interest in, and those were Potions, Herbology, and Care of Magical Creatures. And while she understood there needed to be a balance within magic, she cared much more for classes that useful things could be made from, her own special paste for her face being one of those, in which she created only for herself during her sixth year.
After leaving Hogwarts after NEWTs year, Desideria went around the British Isles making a life for herself, selling potions and caring for plants and creatures in places where her NEWT scores were acceptable for such things. A free-loader at times from her friends that offered Desideria a place to stay, she has hardly managed to keep a job for more than a few months, not because she didn't want to, but because her area of expertise is so common, someone can always be hired for less than she's willing to take. She's never had a stable place of employment, though she's ready for one, and hopes Hogwarts will be one for her.
[ Pros and Cons :]
Language has never come easily to Desideria, and I am not speaking of English. English was the first language she ever learned, though Spanish was a spotted language through her younger years as her father tried to teach her, but left the family before he could finish. While she tries her best to hang on to the language she loves, and tightly and dearly does she try, she cannot speak it very well. This is not a down-look on the language, but she has never found someone to correctly teach it to her, therefore she tries her best, but her best is not always the greatest of attempts. An example is, she may try to say put the apple on the table, and in reality and translation what comes out is place the apple on the highest branch of the bird, not good form at all.
A flaw, though one that can be seen as as goodness as well, is how meticulous Desideria may be at times. Perfection is needed in potions, she knows this, and can be extremely grilling on students about such things. While she strives to make her students do their best, sometimes her striving may be over-powering, especially when a student is doing something wrong. The woman will try to fix the potion at times without telling a student it may need to be done. For example, she may begin to talk loudly, exaggerating a part of the instructions near the ear-shot of the particular student.
Extremely helpful and willing to offer her services to anyone, Desideria is a very genuine soul in the department. While there are more gifted students in certain areas than others, and she believes everyone deserves a chance, Desideria may offer special lessons to those who approach her or she finds deserves the extra, more advanced work. Lessons on healing potions, on potions to do housework, whatever a student may want to know, she's willing to help with, but will often take caution as to what she may be teaching.
Constantly busy, as she finds idle hands to be useless, she always has some kind of project up her sleeve, whether to better herself or another, she always willing to take on a bit of extra work to keep herself going. A woman who seems to never tire herself, it's amazing that she can constantly go and go without stopping.
A third flaw is her temper in situations. Anger, rage, sometimes downright madness often inflicts the woman. Really, it depends on the situation at hand, but she can be quite an angry soul. And while her anger doesn't last very long, when she's in a rage, she's not someone to be messed with.
Another pro, but certainly not the last one, she is very good humored. While she may not seem like a joking type with how seriously she takes her job, Desideria loves a good laugh as much as the next person, believing that laughter is one way of healing a person's soul, no matter what the person may have gone through. Throughout her lifetime, she's had many a good laughs, the only way she could have seen herself making it through the times of her mother's care.

Having attended Hogwarts from 1981-1988, Desideria gained her first experience in the magical realm from the school she would have chosen to attend whether her mum gave her choice or not. School subjects were easy enough, but she only applied herself to those she found to be of practical use.
Desideria has never taught in a position, but she has remained in her profession of potion making since day one of leaving Hogwarts. Having worked in a few apothecaries as well as having done independent research, creating little potions she is waiting to be credited for, Desideria knows her work. She knows that to excel and succeed, she not only has to know her potions, but as well as what goes into said potions. Herbology and Creatures have also been studied closely by Desideria.
While she lacks in experience of teaching, she's ready to take on the challenge to teach her knowledge to students.
[Writing/Role Playing Example:]
How long had it been? Years. Years since she'd last stepped foot inside the confines of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Those years had seemed like months, weeks, days since Desideria had last done so, since she had wished well her friends after her last year while on the train ride back to London.
In all that time, the magnificence of the place hadn't destroyed itself, it was still the same castle she'd fallen in love with so long ago, it hadn't changed. Only the students, the professors, the Headmaster was now a Headmistress, people; that was all that had changed about the place. People were always changing, but it was nice for the woman to see not everything changed greatly with time, as the school was the same it had once been.
It was a new day, a new time, a new life.
Walking into the hall, out from her office, the first she had ever had, Desideria smiled. It was time to make an appearance, time to be someone in a profession she had near to despised while she attended school, a professor.
Robe was on, hat secured, everything was where it was to be for the class later that day, as she'd placed it all only hours before. Everything was set, perfect; or, at least it would've been had she remembered to wear a robe that wasn't printed with ducks and had remembered to use her paste to cover the dragon pox scars.
