Accepted, Welcome to Hogwarts
[ Full Character Name: ] Christian James “CJ” Nagle V
[ Character Gender: ] Male
[ Country of Citizenship: ] Scotland, UK (British Citizen)
[ Physical Character Description: ](Tell what they look like. What they wear, their perks about appearance, their downfalls. Special attributes. Are they plain? Tall? Short?) The back country of the Lake District, the Nagle’s “Muggle Occupation” as farmers and CJ’s experience as instigator of numerous street brawls (in Edinburgh, Glasgow and beyond) have molded the eleven year old. He is athletic, showing strength, for his age, above the torso as well as below it. He has to be in order to survive his countless scrambles; CJ stands little more than 5 feet and 3 inches tall. He’s inherited his blonde hair from his mother’s line – Norwegian blood – but his square jaw and broad shoulders belong to his father’s Irish/Scots-Gael line. “Descended from warriors, you are my son,” Master Nagle has countless times said, and CJ has lived to the lineage. And for all this positive attribution, CJ fears most his own reflection in a mirror. His skin is as tanned as it can be while still being exposed to the “copious” amounts of sunlight offered to the British Isles.
[ Personality Character Description: ] Born as the fifth Christian James Nagle, CJ was more than eager to adopt a nickname to suffice the emptiness that accompanies the responsibility of carrying on a line of namesake. But this is a remarkable feat as his father is dead, so CJ literally carries on the namesake and its lineage. CJ’s childhood has been defined by the amount of time he and his mother have spent from one place to another. He prefers to entertain a group with wit and magic, but he shelters his character, safeguarding it from those who might want to pick at it, as if it were a scab. His character has been defined by the abuse he’s taken from his stepbrothers. (see History section for in depth explanation) Even though he is the only Pureblood in the family, and that by default too (thank mutative genes for that!), his stepbrothers jab at him mostly because his father was a Squib. Being constantly referred to as “the mistake child” or “Mud-Blood” (a term which enrages CJ instantly), Chris’ defenses have been well built. He enjoys using his near invulnerability to test others, though. He likes to prank and see how far he can push the envelope with his peers. One time he managed to catch and bind a squirrel to a tree.
[ History: ]
CJ’s father (Christian James Nagle IV) had kept his secret very well. He was a disgrace to his family otherwise. And yet the moment he held his baby son in his arms, he knew it was a secret that he would have to tell, eventually. With a Norwegian Mother and A Scots/Irish-Gaelic father, the Old Religion reigned in CJ’s home just outside of Edinburgh. CJ grew up not clutching rattles or other anomalous baby toys but rather blunted athames and bolines; he wasn’t bathed in a sink basin as many other babes were, he was taught to swim in a cast iron cauldron. Indeed, CJ was exposed to a different youth experience from everyone else, but he considers it to have defined his life. After all, it was in his playpen that he’d crawled upon his father’s body, all bloodied as it was; it was his athame.... CJ didn’t know what a Squib was when the word got tossed around in the succeeding months, but he gathered it wasn’t a good thing to be a Squib. He and his mother moved out of the country shortly thereafter. In Wales, CJ and his mother added three new members to their family or two: CJ’s first stepfather Aeden and his stepbrothers Liam and Eston. Both stepbrothers were older than CJ, and the marriage made the family a Pureblooded one. However, Aeden died in a broom accident, and the family kept the other two boys. They moved again, this time it was to the Lake District of England. CJ’s mother found herself another husband and three more stepsons: Philippe, Jeromé and Caleb.
Hogwarts: Gryffindor First Year
Christian's first year has been, understandably, a whirlwind. Not only did he make friends worthy of remembrance, but he played with the sentiments of relationships. Sharivah Mehra proved the first experiment in this case. It seemed, at times, that there was a bit too much drama concerning Miss Mehra, and ultimately the relationship unraveled. Outside of this, an excellent relationship developed between Christian and fellow Gryffindor Isabella Huntington, who is still a very good friend of Chris'. He's not entirely sure where he'd be if it weren't for Miss Huntington! And of late, a budding - albeit controversial - relationship seems to be developing with a lovely fifth year Lukus Torrington, and to what lengths this reaches, Chris doesn't know, but he is interested in finding out!
*All in the Family*
CJ’s current family goes as such:
Brigette Anya Nagle, Mother, is a Norwegian born witch; She married out of a long line of witches which (no PUN intended) dates back to the Norse invasions in Brittannia; Her mastery and knowledge of knife combat is astounding.
Liam Colin Couley, Oldest Stepbrother (30), is a Welsh Singer whose music is popular in Wales; His band goes by the name “ ‘R Brechgyn”; His vocal range could attract a cat or dog at its highest, but certainly attracts swooning witches at its lowest; He is not prone to violence, but he doesn’t detract anyone from it.
Eston Brynn Couley, Stepbrother (27), is downright rotten; He is particularly aggressive with his step-brother, but he focuses his terror tactics on other things (i.e. animals and children – generally anything small and defenseless); He works as an Auror in the Ministry’s Welsh branch near Snowdonia.
Philippe Josef Giry, Stepbrother (24), has never been much to the family; he’s always absent spending his time with his equipe in France, where he plays for the Parisian Coquex (Quidditch Club); He’s never really presented any aggressiveness in CJs life… mostly because he’s never there; He’s recently wed:
Joséline Marie Toureaux, Stepsister-In-Law (23). Jo graduated from Beauxbatons Academie with honours; she plays Quidditch professionally along with her newly-wed husband; she is kind and caring, balancing the menacing side of Philippe. Chris would be good friends with her, if he ever gets to meet her.
Jeromé Fredéric Giry, Stepbrother (23), is kind to CJ when they are alone, but when Eston is around, Jeromé is deeply influenced by the step-brother he admires most; He usually never means it but CJ still finds it hardest to trust Jeromé; He works in the Ministry as a secretary to the Department of International Affairs.
Caleb Nicolas Giry, Stepbrother (20), is CJs only familial friend; Being the closest in age to CJ, Caleb has plans for his life, he just hasn’t acted on them yet… even though he graduated from Hogwarts two years prior to this; He was a proud member of the Hufflepuff House, was an admirer of Cedric Diggory (Hufflepuff’s hero) and enjoyed his time at the school; he never partook in hazing his younger stepbrother.
Emmanuel “Manu” Jeromé Giry, Stepfather, is a strict sort of man; Born a native Frenchman, Manu despises the British and begrudgingly lives in England because the Ministry in France is no good; He never has seen CJ as his own son and he never will; Appalled that the boy could be born to a Squib and a Witch, Manu has never considered CJ an equal either… CJ will never be good enough for his lone surviving father figure.
With his mother’s choice marriage to Manu Giry, CJ began to pay back his stepbrothers for their violent behaviour against him. His desire for attention was born from this bad match of his mother and his stepfather. Even greater, though, was born his desire to be in control of his own life and no longer need his mother. When he graduated from the Junior School last year, CJ vowed never to rely on his parents again. Thus far, it hasn’t been an issue. Thus far….
[ Pros and Cons : ] ( This is where you should put all of your characters finer points and all of their flaws. What makes them, them. AT LEAST three of each. Do not list, tell us in paragraph form, preferably with a full paragraph on all six.)
Power over lesser beings/creatures – CJ is thrilled by it, but he has his reservations regarding it. He is strangely attracted to the idea of having power over a helpless creature, he derives some sadistic pleasure in holding a creature at his mercy. Chris gets this from watching his older step-brothers terrorize smaller animals and occasionally use their tactics to intimidate and bully their way into movies or theme parks, so you might call it moral judgment that keeps him from doing such things himself, but really it is his understanding of what it feels like to be on the receiving end of that situation.
Fear of Self-Reflection – It may sound silly, but CJ is completely terrified of looking at himself in the mirror. He avoids this at all costs. It is a fear that is rooted deep within him, because he knows mirrors show more than just face value and he is afraid to see that.
Relationships/Need for Attention – CJ loves to be in the spotlight. With the command of any and everyone’s attention, CJ finds he can perform impeccably. This goes in hand with being under pressure from anyone. The deeper meaning to this, however, is that he loves to put on a mask that will show only what people want to see of him… the rest must always remain as secret and hidden as ever.
Conscientious – CJ may enjoy having people at his mercy, but when he is really on alert… whenever friends are in trouble… he is very conscientious about them and their needs to be safe. He is generally conscientious all the time, but he has found the average person takes him for one thing and doesn’t estimate the other thing. He thrives on that underestimation.
Faithfulness – It’s not like the faithfulness that defines Gryffindor students… this is a faith in all people and in the goodness they can spread. Some would call it love, and in regards to his friends, CJ loves them, but he loves them for who they are and not for how they could make him look better.
Bravery – CJ can be called either brave or just mentally and physically strong… whichever works. He has endured some of the worst types of punishment, needless as it has been, and he’s come out on the other end looking better than he did before it. This translates to how he deals with others who are being bullied. CJ believes that no person should exercise their power over another – it should be just enough to know that one has that power.
[Role Playing Example:] (Please put effort into this and make sure it abides by the site's requirements.)
Jeromé squat on the floor of the cave and reached down to close his fingers around the shining object. It looked, from here, like a ring, but CJ couldn’t be certain of it. He wasn’t entirely sure why he was even out here with his Stepbrother. They’d ventured out to the cave to catch their echoes without Ministry detection. Well, Jeromé was going to catch his echo and CJ was going to watch and listen, and hopefully learn something about how to do it – because the letter came yesterday, and Jeromé had said it would be best if CJ waited until everyone was back here to open it. All they needed was Philippe. “Good Luck getting him in.” Tough luck was more like it. Ever since Phil had met his fiancée, Joséline, he’d used her as an excuse to never come home regardless of the situation. CJ doubted this situation would tempt him any more than the others. Phil sucked. “We can do it without him.” We do everything else without him, why not this? “It’s a big deal! It’s you get-outta-jail-free card!” It’s your hallway pass to the lu. “I don’t think he’ll change the outcome, whether he’s here or not.” Who was Phil anyway? “Well, its more than just the letter and your birthday, Ceej; it’s my brother we’re talking about, and like it or not, I would love to see him again.” Fair enough, he guessed.
