[ Physical Character Description: ]
5'8” 133lbs with a with a somewhat slim build. Dante tries to look as professional as possible at all times. Wearing nothing but button-up shirts of various earth tones and kaki pants and a pair of saddles are about as informal as he goes. He keeps his hair a good few inches in length, it's own weight allowing it to not need combing every morning, about 2 ½ inches and naturally light brown. He has green eyes that have very small streaks of yellow and blue, as his eyes changed from blue to green before he was 5. His skin is as fair as his Italian/German heritage allows. He always wears a gold necklace, with a piece of smoky quartz wrapped in gold wire, the last memory of a departed friend.
A gift from his grandmother Dante has a tattoo on his right palm. Magical by nature the ink choses when to appear on the palm, coming into focus with a slight burn feeling to tell him it has appeared. When the tattoo does appear it is usually a series of numbers, different each time it appears, that are meant to be somewhat of a riddle for Dante. The numbers often represent a word of phrase that he is tasked to discover. The word or phrase is created by Dante's subconscious and is usually an involving an emotion that he is currently suppressing. For example, if Dante were to suppressing anger toward someone, his tattoo may come up with the code [77 97 4]. Once Dante figures out the code he need only say it's meaning and the tattoo disappears, in the example, the word is “mad”. This is by no means a way for Dante to tell the future, as the his subconscious controls the tattoo. The tattoo, as it is controlled essentially by the subconscious, does not know anything that Dante does not know. This prevents the tattoo from giving Dante additional information, though what it provides is something not outright obvious to Dante. Dante can not call the tattoo to appear on his hand on command. The tattoo comes whenever it sees fit, and only disappears once he has figured out the meaning. The system uses mainly numbers, and rarely uses actual letters though they are known to appear on occasion. The appearance of the tattoo is black roman numerals that scatter about his palm in no particular order, part of the puzzle being to unscramble the letters.
[ Personality Character Description: ]
Dante may seem friendly enough, but he can not stand being very open with people about his feelings or what he's thinking. He seems approachable enough, and always has a smile on his face. Grades come easy for Dante, almost to the point of boredom with the system, which can lead him into trouble. Dante is prone to laughing at almost any situation, and often doesn't know when it's time to stop talking. Dante never stops thinking and tends to over analyze people thinking they are up to something. He also thinks of people in terms of business, they are colleagues, but rarely are friends. Dante is book smart but not very socially knowledgeable beyond what people want to hear. Often he either says to much, or does not say enough. He does understand what people want to hear though. And Dante uses this knowledge to gain the upper hand in relationships, attempting to use people to meet his own needs. This is part of Dante's way of dealing with people, through his relationships with individuals he has found that thinking of people as resources, something to be used, and then perhaps tossed aside, is more beneficial to him than having them stick around as a friend. He also likes the control it offers him, deciding when to ditch a friend rather than letting things happen naturally.
[ History: ]
Dante was born October 2nd, 1992 in Milan, Italy to Annetta and Immanuel Vroom Junior. Dante grew up the second of three sons in a rather boring middle-class family. With his parents gone all day Dante found himself often being pushed and pulled in all directions by his brothers, or by someone taking care of the children. As a child he was especially self conscious about going with his brothers in public, as he disliked the scene that he assumed they would make. This likely stems from an incident in 1998 when his youngest brother, Immanuel III, cried through a showing of Vero Amico, causing the production to stop and forcing the family to leave the theatre. In 2002 Dante, his family and closest friend, Isac, were in an automotive accident involving a drunk driver. As a result Isac was killed. Since that day, Dante still wears Isac's gold necklace, handed to him before the accident. For most of his life Dante has been in the top 10% of his class without much effort on his part. He watched as his parents struggled through their workday, and his brothers struggled with their homework, but was never able to understand just why they were having such trouble. He made fun of his brothers for having so much trouble, and openly accused them of being lazy. This caused tension between Dante and his brothers, to the point where an argument in June 2003, between Dante and his brother Henrik, resulted in Dante having a broken nose, and Henrik now lives with their grandparents. Dante learned to be more discrete about what he thought of people after that point, so he is not as openly mocking now. Since studying wizardry Dante has found aspects of Arithmancy to his liking, and dislikes the study or use of Divination, claiming that the future is something that is supposed to happen, not something to be discussed openly. But it was mostly the seemingly whimsical ways the future was "foretold" Dante received his wand from his grandfather, Michelangelo Bruno (mother's side), one of the few in the family that went the path of magic. Dante was not that close to his grandfather. Though he was given his grandfather's wand in the last will and testament of the man. Just as his father had been Dante is a self taught guitar player using various "how to" books to better his skill. He has learned several classical songs, but mostly goes through cord progressions and various rifts he makes up as he goes. His skill at guitar is limited however, in that he rarely gets to play.
[ Pros and Cons : ]
Pro's:
Dante is generally considered a likable person, even though he can be socially awkward, it tends to be taken as him not understanding any better.
Dante is exceptionally book smart, perhaps by no means a straight A student, but he doesn't believe in having to study for an exam. His specialty is Math. Dante is nearly outstanding in doing math in his head. Series of questions go threw his head each day, helping him connect number sequences together more and more. The relationship between numbers is what he wishes to understand the most.
Dante has never had a bad temper, it was just never part of his personality. He rarely stays angry with someone for more than a day, often sleeping it off. He also rarely acts out against someone unless provoked, but instead conceals his anger, and sabotaging a person in some way rather than directly effecting them.
Con's: Dante can be manipulative with people who may consider him a friend. He may not even intend to be manipulating the situation, but in the end sees himself in a better situation than when he started the day.
Though he is long to get angry, what makes him angry is often trivial.
Dante dislikes people acting in what he considers “stupid ways”. Horseplay, mocking of others openly, or manipulating other people send him over the deep end. Of the things that Dante has remained angry about for the longest period, he was once angry at a neighbor for 5 months for stealing a flower out of the family garden.
[Role Playing Example:]
Dante watched the professor write the equation on the board. “The last number he will write shall be 54” he thought to himself, “just like last year in Arithmacy 101, when Professor Delay was talking about crystal frequency”. He was bored with the class reviewing for the test tomorrow, but he had to be there, because afterward he was going to meet with Felicity to talk about their plans for Monday. He knew what she was going to want to do, but thought that if he offered to walk her to the Quidditch match, he might not have to help her study. He was drawing on his notebook again, daydreaming. “Mr. Vroom, care to come back to the class and tell us the last number in the sequence?” the professor always knew when he wasn't paying attention, which annoyed Dante. “It's 54, just like the last ten times I saw the stupid chart”.
