Accepted: the Ministry wishes you a pleasant day!
[Full Character Name:] Professor Daethem Zendoryn
[Character Gender:] Male
[Character Age:] 69
[Position Requesting:] Head, Department of Magical Education
[Country of Citizenship:] England (Born in England, raised in Ireland due to mounting dangers during World War II)
[Years of Employment at Ministry:] 50 years
[Physical Character Description:] Tall and thin, and bearing eyes of the brightest blue, Professor Daethem Zendoryn is an imposing presence with an air of greatest wisdom about him. He bears hair, beard, and mustache that are well kept and gray with age; He has a thin, pointed nose, and wears robes of fine, and ornately embroidered fabrics. Daethem wears gold framed rectangular spectacles.
[Personality Character Description:] Inquisitive, and reserved, Professor Zendoryn has an almost obsessive dislike for anyone who advocates wizarding blood purity, though he does not spout his beliefs everywhere. He is outwardly polite, and exudes an aura of wisdom, and quite professional in his ways, though, internally, he is an obsessed mind.
[History:] Born within the turmoil of World War II, and the magical conflict between Gellert Grindelwald, and the magical world at large, Daethem Zendoryn had a childhood cursed by conflict. Born October 2nd 1939, Daethem was a member of the pureblood family, Zendoryn, residents of London for the most part. Though they were wizards, the muggle attacks by the Germans on London still posed a significant risk to the family; Add to this the growing support for the Dark Wizard Grindelwald in wizarding circles, and it became abundantly clear to the elders of the House Zendoryn that evacuation of their family to regions at less immediate risk of attack was a necessity, thus, they moved to rural areas in Ireland where they were unlikely to be found by magicians, and even less likely to be the victims of the bombs of the muggles. The tact of moving away from the danger protected them for the most part, however, it did nothing to prevent Daethem's father (Alexander), and grandfather (Alfred) from falling at the hands of Grindelwald's followers, albeit with great resistance.
After World War II, members of the house Zendoryn began to move back into their old lives in England; Daethem was not one of those members. While his mother, and younger siblings moved back into London, Daethem disappeared. Where he went, and what he did between the time he disappeared and the time he resurfaced at platform nine and three quarters waiting to go to Hogwarts, no one knows, even to this day, however, somehow, his letter had found him, and he went to Hogwarts with nothing but a wand. The wand had belonged to his father, and the Ministry of Magic had retrieved the item from the scene of his father's death, sending it to Daethem's mother. Daethem, before his disappearance, had stolen the wand, slipping away into a crowd of people as they made for a train to London not long after.
Daethem's time at Hogwarts past as one of the best parts of his life, though, at the time, you wouldn't know it from looking at him. He was known as a reserved, quiet, hard working, and talented individual, and he never took part in any school activities such as Quidditch, or any other games. He was known to haunt the Library constantly, and would, even during term, disappear all weekend, almost every weekend, only to be found in the first class of the new week before even the teacher arrived. Like all of the rest of the students, Daethem would leave Hogwarts during the summer break, and take the Hogwarts express back to London, where he would depart without meeting anyone on the platform, and wouldn't be heard from again until September first, when, like in all of his classes, he could be found standing alone on the platform, waiting for the train, always the first there.
After graduating Hogwarts with exceptional marks in both his O.W.L.s, and N.E.W.T.s, he was immediately offered a job in the office of the Organizational Administrator of Wizarding Examinations, which he took. His years at the Ministry past with distinction, although, every year, without fail, he would request his whole year's worth of vacation time in one two week clump, and would use it to disappear, yet again, much in the way he did when he was in school. The word about this bizarre behavior did spread through the Ministry, but as they were his sick, and vacation days, and it did not interfere with the smooth running of the department he was in, no one complained.
It was upon his return from one of these inexplicable outings in 2000 that he showed up carrying the odd staff which has become so associated with him in the public eye since. To this day, he has given absolutely no explanation to anybody about why he disappears, where he goes, or what he does wherever he goes. In truth, aside from his work, he does nothing publicly, he does not mingle with his fellow Ministry officials beyond hellos, goodbyes, and working relationships; Rarely is he found in public venues outside of the occasional visit to Diagon Alley, and even his home is, as yet, unknown his co-workers.
[Pros and Cons:]
Pros:
1. A masterful duelist gifted with 57 years of experience, he has a positively encyclopedic knowledge of spells.
2. Has a positively astounding gift with retrieving information that even the most diligent spy would be hard put to secure.
3. Has a keen sense for the detection of lies, and the reading of behavior developed in the course of his duties; It is rare that he is deceived by a lie, and rarely does he miss some telling bit of body language.
Cons:
1. In matters of personal relationships, Professor Zendoryn is sorely lacking. He has almost no true friends, and most are under the impression he prefers it that way.
2. He is generally quite quiet, and usually only converses with others when it is absolutely necessary.
3. Has an EXTREMELY short temper when it comes to handling 'blood-purists'.

[Writing/Role Playing Example:]
Daethem stepped onto the lift and watched the golden grilles before him close. With a rumble, the lift clattered upward towards the first floor where his office was. Today was the day when his words would be published concerning the recent discontinuation of Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. His actions had been hailed by the mothers and fathers of the school's students as a "Revolutionary Shift in the teaching at Hogwarts.", he was not so sure.
As the lift clattered to a halt on the first floor, Daethem stepped out onto the floor, and looked around. As usual, officials, and employees were settling themselves down into their cubicles for a days work. Many of them, being his direct subordinates, nodded in greeting to him, and returned to their in boxes.
Daethem moved past his secretary, a young woman named Alna Gordings, who greeted him, as usual, and handed him the morning post. He flipped through the envelopes as he walked into his office.
The Head of the Magical Education division's office was a long rectangular room with a desk set in front of a large window displaying a view of London from several floors up. Behind the desk was set a large revolving silk armchair, and before the desk sat two chairs for visitors. The desk, and the walls were paneled in stained hard wood, and the walls had shelves of rare books sunk into them.
Daethem took his seat, regarding the empty portrait above the window behind his desk for a moment before sitting, and opened the first letter with his wand, unfurling the letter, and reading the contents.
"My, my." said Daethem "This will be a long day."
He set down the letter with distaste, and picked up the next, feeling it might have been easier just to oppose the legislature.

Dear Professor Zendoryn,
I must say that I have a renewed
trust in your leadership after your decision
to ban the teaching of Defense Against the
Dark Arts. I have been constantly worried
that my children would be taught to fight
other people!
In any case, I would just like to thank you
sincerely, and I hope you have a nice day.
Sincerely,
Alexandra Nott
