A heavy, thick eggshell white envelope enclosed a letter written in a heavy penmanship, pressed into the paper with a hard hand, and addressed to:
Andrew M. Thornton
Inside the envelope, when opened, the young man who was to receive the letter would find the same penmanship written with a dark ink that looked impeccable against the thick, high quality paper it was set against.

Andrew,
I know how unexpected this must be, and I'm sure you understand how difficult it is for me to be writing this to you. I also hope this letter finds you in good health, especially with the concerns of what my wife explained to me as was taking place at the school, the whole reason for both yours and Felicity's inability to return to London.
I had expected the return of both of you this coming holiday break, and with such expectations I had a number of things on my agenda to speak to both of you about, mainly dealing with the relationship between yourself and my youngest daughter. However, in light of such circumstances, things have changed and my agenda must be put aside for another time when it is more plausible to speak to you.
While what is on my agenda concerns a number of concerns on my mind, this is not the reason I've chosen to write you. There have been other developments that have caused myself and my wife to take up much concern of our own.
This summer we both noticed Felicity's behaviour change, we discussed a number of options for why our daughter would be sent off to school one way and return differently than expected. There were a number of possibilities, but we also know she was "normal" over the winter break previous. So, we thought about it. The only major thing she spoke to us about was her break-up with you.
I am curious to know the reason for the temporary separation, and the reason for the two of you to return to one another's side. We have Felicity's side, I would like yours. It is the only thing I am able to think of that would explain away Felicity's behaviour.
Another reason I am writing is to request a favour, a temporary one. While my daughter continues through the school term, I would like to ask you to watch over her. Keep an eye on her to make sure she keeps on track. I am afraid of her grades dropping, of her becoming someone she isn't meant to be, I wish to ask you to guide her in the right direction.
While you and I do not see eye to eye on many things, I am sure you will agree with me that Felicity needs guidance to go in the correct direction. She needs attention every step of the way, and I am looking to enlist your help while you are both at the school. I am unable to keep an eye on her, to speak with her to make her listen, and someone needs to be there to talk with her.
Please, do not share the contents of this letter with my daughter, though I know she will inquire as I am sending this in a package to Felicity with specifications to hand this letter to you as soon as she can.
I am expecting and awaiting your reply,
Jacob Hjort
