Accepted. Welcome to Hogwarts.
[Full Character Name: ] James Matthews
[ Character Gender: ] Male
[ Country of Citizenship: ] UK
[ Physical Character Description: ]
If you ever get to meet James Matthews, and chances are that one day you will, you'll come across a rugged looking creature that's just at the beginning of entering into boyhood. Everything about James's appearance looks broken. It's not that he doesn't look after himself and takes pride in his appearance, when people first meet James, they think to themselves that he looks lost and his soulful, deep meaning blue eyes often reflect this.
From his dark brown thick hair, down to his feet, everything else is a stunning specimen of boy. James prides himself on his hair, he takes more care with his thick brown hair than he would like anybody else to know. Still, no matter how much he takes care with his hair, it always ends up looking tousled- he can't help that part- for some reason people like to tousle his hair, especially those he knows, because they just know how much care he does take with it.
So with his being thick, so is his dark brown eyebrows. They're big, they're sometimes wild, but still perfectly well groomed. When you come from a family that's supposed to keep up appearances, everything about James is kept up to a slightly, over-the-top perfection.
If eyes were truly the window to the soul, everything you needed to know about James shows inside the dark blue haze underneath his lashes. From looking lost, to feeling pride, resentment, and even love, a person would be able to tell what James is thinking, just by looking into his blue orbs of honesty.
[ Personality Character Description: ]
Growing up in a family of purebloods, James thinks very highly of himself. He is a Matthews, and Matthews were known for their good looks, their money and often offbeat way of getting into mishaps and finding their way into fights that they think are worth fighting for. Believing honesty is the best policy, James will tell people the way it is, and if they ask him a question, he will answer them honestly, straight to the point that sometimes, people don't really like to hear it.
James thinks of the muggles the same way that he thinks of himself. Highly- after all, in his way of thinking, it must've been hard for them to come into a world that was so unlike the one in which they've come from. Still, James distance's himself away from muggles, with the same thought that he's been plagued with since birth- that all muggleborns are not to be messed with.
James will befriend them, just to see how far he can push his own family and to see how far he can push himself. James likes to push the boundaries a bit, he doesn't mind confrontation, doesn't mind fighting for what he believes in and stands up for his friends when they are being picked. Even the muggles, for some reason, he just has a soft spot for those that are non-magical.
[ History: ]
James Mark Matthews was born to Jonathan Richardson and Amelia Richardson, on your normal cloudy, rainy day in London. Except that he had came early before his birth date of February 20th, 1994. Instead, he arrived on February 18th, 1994- in his parents bedroom. The fact that he was born in his parents home, is a joke among the Matthews family.
From the time that little James could walk and talk, his family was certain that their son was just like them- magical. Little things like levitating himself up to get a cookie that he wasn't allowed, told them he was so. So, from then on, his parents immersed him in all things magical- spells, potions, charms, you name it, James was learnt it.
Even quidditch James was taught the game by his parents, playing everything from seeker to beater to chaser to keeper. It was good thing that they lived just outside of Chelsea in London, on a farm that was partly removed from all seeing muggle eyes.
There was only one problem. While his loving parents thought that they were teaching him right, teaching him what it was like to be pureblood in a magical world, they kept him away from the muggle world. Which kept James from learning about theory and books. Because of all his hands on practice with magic, James was never taught how to read and write, they only taught him the basics of the two- just enough so he could write spells, charms and potions. James was half-illiterate, but that didn't matter to his family, what mattered to them that he was learnt everything about the world he was born into.
And teaching their son all things magical, gained him a place into the most exclusive school there ever was. Though, his parents weren't too sure he should go to Hogwarts- they didn't want him to associate with muggles too soon in his life. But, after a lot of begging from James, his parents reconsidered and now that he was fourteen, he was finally going to get to go to the best wizarding school there was.
[ Pros and Cons : ]
Pros:
Honesty: This what really makes James, James. He really is one of those people that calls it like he sees it. James likes to think that he is doing everyone a favor by telling them what they don't want to hear, versus what they want to hear. Being honest is one of James's best attributes and he will never waver from it.
Practicality: Another really good attribute about James, he is a practical thinker, more than anything else. Since he can't read or write very well, James has to come up with other ways to get by in life, and his practicality shines when he is faced with a situation that needs to be thought out, rather than going to a book for help.
Bravery: In all else, James is quite a brave boy. He will stand up for what he believes in, stand up for other people, and fight all the fights that he thinks are worth fighting. Even it means getting himself in trouble- James just can't walk away when he thinks somebody isn't right or is just being plain mean to someone.
Cons:
Pureblood: Yes, this is a con of James. Growing up in a family of purebloods, he never knew a muggle, and thus doesn't really know what to think of them- except for some reason, he should stay away from them. This is a con, because he would rather get to know them from a distance, rather than stay away from them completely.
Half-illiterate: James can't read or write properly, so this a con because it affects his schooling and learning about a more wider range of subjects, rather than the ones he already knows. Because he is half-illiterate, he hasn't been able to get outside of the box.
His hair: Believe it or not, this a con. Sure, you can laugh about it, but James is quite obsessed about it. Every waking hour, every mirror or store window, James has to stop and make sure that his hair stays in place. Otherwise, his world will collapse around him, literally.
[Role Playing Example:]
“No! You're wrong and you know it! Stop being so right all the time!” James yelled at his older brother, who was teasing him about his hair, and how he was going to lose it one day. It all sounded so wrong, because his Dad wasn't bald, and neither was his Mum. So Danny was wrong, but his brother wouldn't admit it, and James liked arguing too much to let it go.
“Sides, Mum and Dad aren't bald, and baldness is heredity, and you should know! You went to university!” James smirked and scoffed at the thought of going somewhere so muggle, but inside, he really was jealous of his brother for getting to go to university to study teaching. Danny wasn't as magical as the rest of his family, so his parents saw it fit to send him to a muggle school, instead of putting him through wizarding school and paying all that money for nothing.
“Just you wait little brother, it will happen. Maybe not now, but in time, it will happen, you will be bald” James watched in surprise as a wide, teasing smile showed on his brother's face. “That lying, rotten... " Quickly, James looked over in the mirror above his dresser table, just to check that his hair was in place and none of it was missing. James smiled to himself, of course it wasn't, it was all in place.
“You're a sneaky, rotten liar, you know that?!” James exclaimed, turning back to his brother and keeping the arguing going. One way or another, James was going to make his brother declare that he was wrong- no matter what it took.
