Accepted! Welcome to Hogwarts!
[Full Character Name: ] Dustan Jay McNutt
[ Character Gender: ]Male
[ Country of Citizenship: ]U.K.
[ House: ] Slytherin
[ Year: ] 5th
[ Physical Character Description: ]
Not extremely tall, Dustan only stands at a height of 5'6β and weighs in at 134lbs. He is considered average by most standards and that's what he likes. Who really wants to stand out from the crowd? Make it that much easier for others to point you out and say something, do something, make fun of you. In Dustan's opinion being average is the new βinβ and there's no reason to try and make himself noticeable. The height he knows is something uncontrollable, but he's glad he's not gone through any major growth spurts in his lifespan, staying at such an average height, maintaining a good weight that was healthy, a little over average for his height, but not grotesquely. Just enough outdoors activities and eating vegetables is all he needs.
Curly, brown hair and dull green eyes accompany the average look he carries. Skin that isn't always perfect, with the normal amount of blemishes a teenager has if they don't go overboard on the skin care products, he figures there isn't anything wrong with allowing a natural course to run through his life, as long as it's not overdone because he's not afraid to apply the soaps and creams that are used to prevent huge breakouts, but only uses them when he does have a bad day.
A shy smile will often be used to greet another, one that shows slightly crooked teeth, but ones that are normal. A slightly large nose, due to heritage, sits in the middle of his face, surrounded by high cheek bones, a strong jaw, full lips, and normal-sized ears. A raspy, deep voice will reach your ears when he speaks, low and soft spoken, but still developing that manly sound; the rasping comes from his voice change that he's not fully done going through.
The style of his clothing is also typical, blue jeans that hang loosely on his hips, t-shirts that are form fitting, and sometimes the edge of his boxers show above the hemmed line of his jeans. He's the type of guy that wears socks with sandals, socks that reach to his knees, and will only use a sweatshirt if it's extremely cold outdoors, otherwise he faces it determinedly on his own in a t-shirt.
[ Personality Character Description: ]
Quiet, kind, and charming, Dustan doesn't have a problem making friends, but that's not what he wants to do. Manners are highly prized by the boy, something his father worked hard to drill into him at a young age, telling him nothing was more important to those who observed him than how he presented himself, a well-mannered young man. Though he tends to keep to himself, he's not bashful or shy, unless it comes to the opposite sex, in which he finds himself tripping over his words, glancing all around, he finds it problematic to talk to any girl.
An overall good guy that gets along with most everyone, he still prefers the silence of the quiet library to that of any group, no matter who made it up. While he has his own close circle of friends, in a way he wants to branch out, wants to know others in his school, but his attitude and fear of meeting others and giving them a piece of himself, for them to destroy or make him lose, keeps him from doing just that.
Dustan's fears and wants keep him from doing things, but at the same time allow him to make decisions he wouldn't normally make, allowing him to reach outside the comfortable box he keeps so close by.
[ History: ]
Life was normal, average, slightly exciting with summer vacations in France in a cottage owned by his parents. At least, that's what it was until the faithful day nearly five years ago. The passing of Jason Dwight McNutt was a sad one for the young McNutt child, the only McNutt child. Dustan had to experience the loss of a great man from his life, someone who could never be replaced, and someone his mum didn't bother trying to replace. Jason was Julianna's life, her everything, and she couldn't imagine even dating again, and so for five years it's only been she raising the new man of the house, Dustan.
In the winter of 1987, Jason met Julianna on a cruise crossing the Atlantic. Julianna was traveling with her parents, making her first crossing and entrance to the United States by way of Connecticut to visit family on the Hudson in New York state. Jason was a paid escort on the ship, making money by attending to the single women on the ship, escorting them to the dance classes, to dinner, for drinks, to play shuffle board. Whatever a woman wanted, he was to provide the services necessary for her to enjoy herself. This was his third crossing, needing the summer money to pay his way through college. Though he was young, at the age of twenty-five, he looked older, something the cruise line had liked about him.
Attending Oxford had been in his plans since he was little, a plan laid out for him by his parents, a good plan. Unfortunately, after attending Oxford for one year his father got into a bad spot with gambling bits and what had been saved for Jason to attend university was used to pay off all the debts he had accumulated. While this took a toll on the family, and Jason had to take a two year break to make enough money to pay for another year's tuition, he managed to make it through, and thanks to a friend he found the cruise position, making it easier on the young man who had struggled through the past year working and trying to maintain a top grade so he could possibly get a scholarship in his next year.
Julianna Brown was a young woman born as a half-blood who attended Beauxbatons in France, her mother wanting her to have the same education she had had as a young witch, and her father knowing nothing of the world and therefore agreeing to whatever the love of his life wanted. Beauxbatons proved to be a turning point in the young woman's life, one she would never forget, as she had made several friends and learned so many of life's experiences in one place.
The summer after graduation brought Julianna a lifetime experience provided by her parents, wanting to take her on an across the Atlantic cruise, believing she deserved something as wonderful, if not more so.
Boarding the ship was when the Brown's first laid eyes on the young man with a slightly receding hairline, a bright smile, and spectacles perched on his nose. The trip to America proved to be rather uneventful, as everything she tried to get the man's attention was deflected, either by her parents or by another cruiser. It was becoming rather tiresome, and after a month in North America, the return trip was all she dreamt about.
The return trip for the Brown's proved to be more than exciting. The first night, a light dinner was served and all were delighted to see they were seated at a table with the young Jason McNutt, and all were surprised to discover he was younger than his appearances told. After arriving back on European shores, Jason and Julianna exchanged information and kept in touch for a few years, allowing Jason time to finish college and Julianna to make a career as a young professor at Beaubaton's teaching charms as an assistant professor.
A few years later, and the two married and remained happily married for a number of years before Dustan joined their happy little family.
Dustan was homeschooled by both his parents, but only in muggle subjects as Julianna didn't believe he was going to be magical, having shown no signs. Jason in a way was relieved, though did not care much either way, their home now in Salisbury, England was absolutely perfect.
However, just after turning ten, his father went into cardiac arrest, and unfortunately did not make it through. The year was tough to get through, but Julianna and Dustan managed, deciding not to mention what happened to his father as a death, but instead calling it as his father leaving.
Upon turning eleven the following May, both Julianna and Dustan were amazed to see the arrival of an owl, requesting to bring Dustan into the world his mother grew up in. It was a world Dustan knew nothing of, as neither parent felt the need to tell him of his magical blood. His first year at Hogwarts was normal, though he noticed his own ability with magic had an intense thriving notion for wand work.
Developing his own interests, Dustan took a liking to plants, though he cannot stand Herbology. There's just something revitalizing to the young man about caring and tending to the plants of his choosing, as long as it's not a forced learning he must go through, such as class lessons. Over the years Dustan has also begun reading his father's books, his father having been an aspiring novelist, he collected many great works, and Dustan has taken them to his own hands to not only be close to this passed father, but to become more knowledgeable.
[ Pros and Cons : ]
Pros:
Dustan is extremely bright and knowledgeable about plants that take his interest, often caring to attend for the floral over taking interest in his fellow peers. He loves to read, drinking in every word of whatever text his hands are on. A third pro is he's a good sport, not minding a bit of humor aimed at him, and being able to take a hit without becoming fierce about it.
Cons:
A bit of a loner, Dustan prefers his own company and that of his plants over the company of peers. He tends to hold in his emotions, not wanting others to get in, as he believes allowing himself to give to much, he'll lose it somehow, some way. Yet another con in Dustan opinion is sometimes he can be too gullible, buying stories sold to him by others.
[Role Playing Example:]
Only just into the term and Dustan was already in the library trying to figure out what he was supposed to be doing. He wanted to learn everything he could, study up on everything. Classes had started off as per usual, and as per usual, Dustan hightailed his way to the library to get things off the ground. Studying wasn't only for Ravenclaws.
With him, Dustan had brought a pretty pink mini rosebush, named Tanya. He was unable to help it, it looked so lonely sitting on the floor of the boy's dormitory, even with all the other plants around, and he knew he had to take it with him. Besides, the librarian shouldn't say anything about it, after all, it was a plant, not an animal and it wasn't going to hurt any of the precious books.
Sitting at one of the tables in the middle of the large room, Dustan buried his nose in a book about charms, wanting to learn a number of new ones for the class. Tanya sat on the table beside him, almost as though peering over the words in the book along with the boy.
