All the sleeping in and staying up late was over. Classes were back in session and the snow was slowly melting away. It was too bad, eh?
Zee thought about her winter break as she made her way over to the Great Lake. The place was completely deserted. Perfect.
What was she doing anyways? Zee had decided to be a little brave today and skate around the lake... without skates. Since she didn't have any, she decided to just 'skate' on the lake with her street shoes. They almost worked just as well, right? Zee hadn't really thought about it, but what could go wrong? The lake was still covered in ice and, to her, it still looked pretty thick. She wasn't really too worried about it breaking. Besides, it would be fun. She'd never done it before and it was always something she wanted to try. It definitely sounded like a great idea to her.
Zee stood there for a moment in her skinny black jeans and bright red hoodie. Her hands were deep inside her hoodie pockets, her way of keeping them warm. She stared out at the lake, biting her lip, becoming slightly hesistant about the idea, but quickly shook it off. There was no way she was backing out now. She looked down at her old red converses, than back at the ice. It looked pretty safe to her. It was still too early for it to start becoming thin, right?
Zee quickly glanced around herself, making sure there was no one around. She didn't want anyone watching her, especially if she ended up falling on her ass, which was probably what was going to happen the moment she stepped onto the lake. After making sure the coast was clear, the Hufflepuff took a deep breath and slowly placed her foot forward on the frozen water. It was definitely slippery, much more slippery than Zee had expected, but she continued. With her arms stretched out, she quickly placed her other foot on the ice and immediately began sliding. She began to lose her balance and began waving her arms frantically. This only made her slide farther out and she began to regret the whole thing. Soon enough, the girl was a good distance away from the edge of the lake and now heading towards the middle. "Shoot, shoot, shoot," Zee kept whispering to herself as she tried to keep herself from moving any farther.
Finally, "Ah!" she let out a shriek as she made one wrong move and ended up on her butt. At first, Zee was focused on the pain, then suddenly started panicing and rapidly looking around herself, searching for any cracks in the ice. A sigh of relief escaped her lips when she didn't find any. Then, the red-head looked back, noticing just how far she had slid. It was going to be hard to get back there alone. She didn't have the slightest idea of how to get back there without falling another dozen times.
So much for that 'great' idea.

Once again, Drew found himself by the lake. He often came down even in the winter, just to get a sense of the water and get some fresh air, but on this day he was again debating the options of getting on the ice. Around his birthday he had actually ordered a pair of skates, but as usual they were no where near his rather large feet, tossed on the tree house floor behind him.
Drew was sitting on his elevated porch, high in the branches of the oak tree that held his sanctuary. He was debating the pros and cons of actually getting onto the ice, but got sidetracked as he watched a girl do exactly what he was considering.
She didn't use skates, and she looked about as agile on the slippery surface as he did. he had to smirk as she slid and landed on her backside. Been there, done that Drew thought, but the humor in the situation disapated as the girl screamed.
In a flash, Drew was on his feet and swinging down through the branches only to land in a snowbank mere seconds later. He rushed to the edge of the lake and called out to the girl who obviously was concerned by her situation.
"Hey! You okay?" he called out, taking a tentative step onto the ice himself. He was better on shoes than he was on skates, but still wasn't sure he could get all the way out there to help her.

Zee glanced around herself, trying to think up a way to get off the lake. Plenty of ideas came to mind, but all would make her look like a complete fool and she was really trying to avoid that.
"Hey! You okay?" Zee froze. Someone had been watching her. She immediately began to turn red and for a few seconds she just sat there, feeling quite embarrassed. Damn, she thought to herself. Damn. Finally, she slowly glanced over her shoulder at the boy who was already making his way onto the ice. No skates either, but he'd started out much better than she had. Figures.
"I-I'm fine!" Zee finally hollered back, still sitting on the ice. Now she was regretting immediately getting up. If she did now, she'd probably fall once again, this time on her face. "I'm just kind of stuck..." She finished, carefully watching the boy as he came to her assistance. She was grateful that the boy was trying to help her out, but at the same time she wished that he hadn't been out here. Zee just kept thinking about how he must have reacted when he saw her slip and getting off this ice would give him even more to laugh about.

As soon as his feet hit the ice, Drew struggled to stay upright, but manged to keep his long legs under control enough to move towards her.
"I'm fine!" she hollered back and Drew froze, not sure if she wanted his help. On more than a few occasions, he had been told off for helping when he wasn't wanted.
"I'm just kind of stuck..." she continued and Drew relaxed and renewed his approach. He wasn't exactly sure how much help he would actually be, but at the very least, he had to try.
"Okay, I'm coming," he told her, trying to hurry, but still worried about falling on his ass in front of the girl. For a moment he thought the lake would thaw before he got to her, making it easier on him to swim to her than slide, but eventually he reached the girl, got down on the ice next to her and gave her a crooked smile. "Are you okay?" he asked again, not exactly sure what she meant by "stuck".

It was astonishing how the boy had been able to stay on his feet as he slid over to Zee. Obviously, he knew how to skate fairly well... either that or Zee was just a very clumsy person.
She watched him slowly making his way across the lake. Once he finally reached her, she smiled. "Are you okay?" The boy asked once he finally reached her.
Zee gave him a small grin and nodded. "Yah, I'm just having a little problem getting back.." She muttered, glancing back at the edge of the lake, where she had started. The hufflepuff looked back up at the boy and added, "I don't think I can get back up on my feet again," She would probably just end up falling again if she tried so didn't even attempt.

Drew smiled back, not exactly sure he'd be able to help much, but willing to try. It was either that or they would both be stuck out there until the thaw.
Or the ice gave. Drew didn't know much about ice skating, but he knew going through was dangerous. He wasn't sure how to check for thin ice, but he told himself that since they hadn't gone through yet, it should probably be okay.
"I can try to give you a hand, but I can't promise you'll stay upright," Drew warned her, getting to his knees and holding a hand out to her. "But if it's any consolation, if I end up pulling you down, I'll be breaking your fall in the process, right?"

"I can try to give you a hand, but I can't promise you'll stay upright," Zee nodded and took the boy's hand. Any help was appreciated. It wouldn't be his fault if she fell again, which she probably would. She'd probably end up slipping a couple of times on the way back.
Slowly, she got up on her knees, then gripped the boy's hand tighter as she tried to get up on her feet. "But if it's any consolation, if I end up pulling you down, I'll be breaking your fall in the process, right?"
Zee paused for a moment, and glanced up at him. "Don't worry, I don't think you'll be the pulling us down." She assured him.

When her hand clasped his, he gripped her tightly and pulled her up, focusing on keeping his own feet from slipping out from under him. He was usually pretty steady in regular shoes, but it wasn't often he was trying to help another keep balance. Still, there was always that possibility and he knew it.
"You don't know me very well," he teased as he pulled her to her feet, using both hands to make sure she stayed upright. He grinned when he realized he didn't know this girl at all. "I'm Drew Thornton... nice to meet you."

Keeping her eyes on her feet, Zee slowly rose up, slightly sliding a little. Finally, she was steady on her feet, a little shocked that she was able to keep her balance. The boy had plenty to do with it, though. Zee smiled at his comment, but didn't look up at him. She was still looking down, focused on staying on her feet. "I'm Drew Thornton... nice to meet you."
For a moment, Zee was silent, but then looked up at him at smiled. "I'm Zee-" Suddenly, she began to slip, unable to finish her sentence. Immediately, she grabbed Drew's shoulder with her free hand, keeping her up. Once Zee gained balance again, she looked up at him, attempting to laugh at herself a bit. A small, nervous chuckle escaped her lips as she muttered, "Zee Gibbs."

He helped her to her feet, concentrating on his own so that they both didn't end up on their butts. She started sliding and he held on tighter, determined to keep them both upright. It seemed to work and as she finally looked up, he grinned back at her, pleased with their accomplishment.
"I'm Zee-" she started, only to start slipping again. He grabbed her again to prevent her fall and let out a sigh of relief when she kept her feet under her.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Zee," he answered with his own friendly laugh, deciding to give them both a little more time to get steady before moving towards the shore. "That's an unusual name. How'd you get it?"

The question always seemed to come up about her unique name and to be honest, Zee didn't really have much of an answer. Although her siblings has interesting names as well, they were oddly spelled versions of actual names... like Kristopher and Jacin. She'd never really bothered to actually ask why her name was so different.
After making sure she was good and balanced, she glanced up at her and sighed. "I don't really know," She admitted, "I never got the chance to ask my parents, but it is kind of weird isn't it?" She'd thought about it plenty of times and never really liked her name to begin with. Gradually, she began to get use to it. "I really have no idea where they even came up with the name Zetta."

Drew kept his hands on her, possibly a bit forward under normal circumstances, but he really didn't want to see the girl fall again. Making sure of his own balance, he carefully started moving towards the shore. Slow and steady was going to be the way to go unless they wanted to land on thier bums.
"Zetta? That's pretty," he told her with a crooked smile. His name was way more on the ordinary side and thought it was kind of neat having a name no one else had. His sister probably didn't agree, having gone through bouts of teasing, but Drew still thought an interesting name was better than a plain one. "Do you know what it means?"

She held onto the boy tightly as they made their slowly way towards the shore. Zee kept her eyes on her feet, concetrating hard on staying up. She didn't need to fall another time. She was already a little sore.
Zee listened intently to the boy, still looking down, and smiled at his compliment. She'd never really thought of her name as 'pretty'... just as unique. "Thanks," She muttered quietly. At his question, she wrinkled her nose a bit as she thought about it. Nobody had ever asked that of her, but she had come across the meaning of it awhile ago. She'd found a book on names in the library and dared to take a peek, hoping to find her name in there. Unfortunately, it wasn't, but she had definitely found a few names close to hers. "I'm not really sure," She admitted, "but I think it means something like 'little girl'." She let out a quiet chuckle and added, "Not that exciting really."

Drew kept his hold on Zetta as he led the way back to the shore. They were making good progress and he was pretty sure he could get them to the edge of the lake without falling as long as he kept calm and somewhat focused.
"Well, I guess it's better than meaning 'little boy' right?" he teased back, shuffling a few more steps forward. They were about half way to the edge of the lake, but the going was pretty slow. Anything to keep them upright and off their butts.
"You aren't in any of my classes... what year are you?" he asked figuring she couldn't be all that younger than he was.

Zee was quite thankful for Drew would came out to help her. Without him, she'd probably still be in the middle of the lake, sitting on her bottom. Or probably trying to get back by sliding on her stomach which would have been awfully embarrassing. Of course, she was no stranger to embarrassment. She seemed to make a fool of herself quiet often lately.
The Hufflepuff laughed at the boy's comment with her eyes still looking down at her feet. She tried to refrain from blinking, not wanting to do anything to lose her balance, and her eyes began to sting a bit. She did her best to ignore it. In fact, she barely changed position in any way, other than her feet, in an attempt to keep from falling.
"I'm a fifth year," Zee said simply, but with how short and petite she was, she wouldn't have been surprised if he had guessed that she was a little 3rd or 4th year. "And I'm guessing you're a.. seventh year?" She guessed, hoping she wouldn't be wrong.
