Accepted: the Ministry wishes you a pleasant day!
[Full Character Name:] Rollo Winner
[Character Gender:] Male
[Character Age:] 22
[Position Requesting:] Dragon Research and Restraint Bureau in The Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures
[Country of Citizenship:] United Kingdom
[Years of Employment at Ministry:] 2
[Physical Character Description:]
With blond hair and slim frame Rollo stands just under 6 foot at 5`11. His deep blue eyes highlight his haggard face that holds his every changing cheekbones and usually a five o’clock shadow. It is the only part of his body that is not scarred from work or does not have some form of tattoo on it. His chest bears two marks one that declares “All the world is a stage” and the other as if to put an exclamation point on it is a large scar running underneath it. This like the many others that occupy his midsection, arms, and legs are from his field work at his current job in the werewolf support services department in the ministry. While slim, Rollo is toned and has some muscle content to his form which is noticed easily by his usual casual dress of v neck t-shirts and tight jeans which despite dress code he wore to every class at Hogwarts and still wears to work. Speaking with his hands and gestures in not uncommon for Rollo as a majority of the time he would much rather let his body tell the story rather then speak.
[Personality Character Description:]
For the most part Rollo is your typical wall flower even at the age of twenty two. Never one to reach out to people unless they acknowledge him first he has always been on the outside looking in. The fact that he is extremely passionate about whatever he is working at the moment is the only way he has gotten anywhere in his life. Shy is another word that attaches itself to Rollo with quite a bit of ease. Due to the fact that for a majority of his childhood Rollo has never been able to speak up for himself. His father did most of the talking for him so Rollo used actions rather then words to communicate and do what he needed to do. Despite being shy if he has enough love or passion for something Rollo will always put himself and his best foot forward in the matter. Always one to give something a try first before judging it Rollo takes everything head on which in his opinion more then makes up for his shyness.
[History:]
Rollo never really fit into his family and it didn’t surprise him. His father and his last name would haunt him his whole life. His father, Darrin Winner, was just that a winner. Born into a rich wizarding family he grew up privileged and since his graduation from Hogwarts the man had been succeeding in life. A star chaser on a Gryffindor Quidditch team he excelled in school and had planned to be an auror. This though was not to happen as Darrin would barely scrape an A on his Potions N.E.W.T. Of course Darrin was outraged but once he had settled down the then young man went to what he considered to be the next best thing which was The Improper Use of Magic Office of which in a mere five years he would become the head of, all of this eventual lead to a seat for him on the Wizengamot Council of Magical Law.
Darrin’s work was not his whole life though as he would always state to his family and friends. While on holiday he would meet one Dominique Hunter who, as he was pleased to find out later, was a witch. After three years of courting (one of which they lived together), permission from her parents, and the perfect lighting Darrin Winner would propose to his love. As Rollo would always point out it didn’t hurt that his mother was also rich and came from a somewhat prestigious family. This though would all lead to Rollo’s eventual birth and what Darrin would consider his best achievement yet.
Rollo in turn grew up knowing little of struggle and was taught things that as his father would say were things that someone of his blood should be learning. This would begin Rollo’s odd relationship with his father. He loved him surely and enjoyed doing things with him even if they didn’t interest him that much but the things that Rollo found interesting was of little consequence to his father. Rollo wanted to paint and play piano his father on the other hand wanted him to learn how to fly a broom properly and work on potions with him. Thankfully he found solace in his mother for these things or at least for the piano. Dominique in one evening of dinner conversation mentioned slyly to Darrin how nice and proper it would be for Rollo to learn how to play and entertain their guests when they came. It would add just another skill that the Winner name had conquered and the guests would speak of how refine and well balanced their boy Rollo was. Darrin leapt at the idea so while he was away at work Rollo learned to play and while he was home Rollo did as he wished.
This would be the beginning of his true relationship with his mother who granted his every wish and did what she could to give the boy what he wanted. Sneaking him paint supplies was only the second step in her plan to let Rollo express his desire. Darrin noticed none of this of course as it all occurred while he was away and what did reason did he have to search his perfect son’s room. He would never do anything to disobey him after all why would he; they were the exact same people. The piano lessons were working fabulously also and his wife had been right guests gushed at their son’s skill on the ivory keys. Thus was the childhood of Rollo Winner.
Rollo gained acceptance to Hogwarts just as his father knew he would except this was done to much more fan fare then most eleven year olds received. Throwing an extravagant party for the family Darrin beamed as his son played the piano perfectly and boomed about how his son would be just as successful as he himself had been at the school. Darrin declared that his son would do what he had not been able to and would become a top notch Auror the greatest of his or any other time. Rollo on the other hand sat in the corner knowing that his assortment into a house would expose all to his father and that he would most likely not be the boy he wanted him to be.
Rollo’s career at Hogwarts was a tortuous one for him as he found it hard to keep his head down. Sorted into Ravenclaw, much to the disdain of his father, Rollo did brilliantly in class and just as his father he played Chaser on the Quidditch team and while not the same caliber of a player his father was he played well. Despite all this though, which should have garnered large popularity and maybe even a girlfriend, Rollo kept to himself. Whenever his parents mentioned the possibility about friends visiting over holidays Rollo changed the subject saying that they already had plans or that he’d much rather just spend time with his father and mother. This of course was completely alright with Darrin as he thought Rollo was doing great justice to the Winner name and would fulfill his dream. Dominique sensed something wrong but knew that if her son was that troubled he would speak to her about it.
Rollo continued to succeed at Hogwarts but spent his time alone painting, drawing, and attempting to emulate every art figure he could see. What his father didn’t know was that Rollo had plans of his own and he would leave Hogwarts to explore the world of art and attempt to be an artist. Up until this point he had been playing along with his fathers plans but he had an ace in the hole. Rollo followed his plan perfectly and managed to score a P on his Potions N.E.W.T. In his mind it was the perfect plan his father could save face because the same had happened to him and he could say like father like son both of them just didn’t have a knack for Advanced Potions. This of course was bullocks as Rollo had made sure to sabotage his test potions otherwise he would have passed with flying colors. Unfortunately for Rollo things would not go according to his plans either.
Darrin Winner was defeated once again in his life this time by his proudest creation’s failure at his own weakness. He would tell himself it was genetic and after pulling a few strings Darrin would land his son Rollo in what he thought was a brilliant job that was full of adventure and action that was close to an Auror like his own job had been. Except Darrin in an act of misguided kindness had remembered that Rollo like animals and loved his Care of Magical Creatures class. It was after all the class he raved about the most. So he had landed his son a job in the The Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures in the Werewolf Support Services department. Rollo was not pleased but went along with it because despite his seven years of freedom at Hogwarts he had not grown a backbone.
Rollo began with all the enthusiasm he could muster for this particular job and it wasn’t too bad at first. The job for the first six months gave him plenty of spare time to paint and do as he pleased. After this though he began field work and the next year and a half was a blur which consisted mostly of being “accidently scratched” (Although he hardly considered them scratches by the scars they left) and trying to somehow make the world a better place for werewolves. While some he found to be civil for the most part Rollo spent a majority of his time dealing with the more unpleasant werewolves who thought it was a good time to invite him over during full moons to discuss better environments for them to live in. Regardless of all this Rollo worked hard just as he had at Hogwarts to please his father and began planning his meetings by the lunar calendar instead of the monthly one.
Now Rollo is requesting a transfer to Dragon Research and Restraint Bureau which is a bit of an upgrade for him ,as he while dragons are most likely more dangerous, they did not have the mental capacity of werewolves. Rollo resides in a simple studio apartment near the ministry his walls painted by himself and covered in blank spots by his other paintings. The only thing that occupy his flat are his art supplies, wooden piano, a large white piano, a bookshelf containing the few books he owns, and his futon which acts as both couch and bed. Hoping for the transfer Rollo spends most of his time alone and painting. Although with the current rumblings inside the ministry he can’t help but be a bit interested in the Phoenix Regiment and what it is doing.
[Pros and Cons:]
Pros:
1. Rollo has always been creative whether it means creating new melodies on the piano or looking at something a different way when he paints it. Rollo is always finding a new way to look at things and make things happen.
2. Rollo despite his father's disregard for his wishes manages to still care heavily about others. Though some see this as a weakness that comes along with the trust Rollo doesn't see it that way. What's wrong with caring about those who are in need of his help and being kind and understanding about their situation. This though has lead to some of his more notable scars.
3. When these to qualities are separted depending on the person passion and aggression can be dangerous qualities. In Rollo's case though they live in harmony and one when appears so does the other. While its landed him in some trouble on occasion because he gets in far too deep this is rare.
Cons
1. Since birth Rollo was soft spoken and while most could overcome this and socialize this was not the case for Rollo. Shyness haunted him through all his time at Hogwarts as he would much rather be shut up then actually have to deal with people. It wasn't that he thought he was better then them or for that matter that he he was afraid Rollo just didn't know what to say and if he said anything at all he doubted that he would be heard.
2. Along with his shyness due to Rollo's fathers continued dictating and bullying he has a hard time standing up for himself. When he really cares about something is the only time he'll argue and even then it has little to no fire.
3. Rollo since his leaving his family has picked up some relativly bad habits in the form of drinking heavily and smoking. While smoking doesn't provide much of a problem friday nights he turns into one of the barflies at the Leaky Cauldron and wastes away at the bar.

Rollo sat on the bench his face pressed firmly against the milky white ivory keys of the piano. This was his life or as he preferred his grave but he had dug it and therefore he would live in it as long as he had to. Maybe things would be easier when his father died….no that was a terrible thing to say he loved his father. Maybe things would change if his mother would just give him another child. That was much better. Yes that was it! That’d solve everything because his father would then shift his focus from Rollo to this new child whoever he or she ended up being. They could be his new white hope, they could go on to be an auror, and ultimately they could allow Rollo to quit his job at the ministry and begin his life as an artist. Sitting up Rollo light himself a Lucky Strike and played with the keys skillfully. That was a terrible thing to ask of his mother after all they were getting on in age and it would be a bit of an after thought to have another child twenty two years after the first one. This idea was not going to happen as Rollo fully realized now and he let it disappear from his mind. Rollo stopped playing with the keys and walked over to the window and sat on its ledge staring out at mornings first light.
Work was something he didn’t want to go to today for a few reasons. The first being was he would find out if his transfer had been approved to the Dragon Research and Restraint Bureau which if it wasn’t he may disregard his father’s wishes and quit anyway. Rollo despised his current department and while he had meet quite a few decent werewolves he meet quite a bit more then his fair share of vicious ones. Along with the scars they gave him he had taken in a cat because of the last one he dealt with. The cat who now lived with him was actually a welcome bit of company on some occasions and while it had a name before it responded to the name Rollo had given it which was Duo. His thoughts raced back to the man though. While he wasn’t proud of it Rollo had ended up taking the man’s life granted it wasn’t his fault. After all the man had invited him to his home to try and relocate him after what the ministry had deemed a bit of a nasty accident with another local fellow. This of course was only because anyone who possessed any type of evidence that opposed the man’s case had decided not to show up or was in fact the person in question who he had killed. Their deaths were now being investigated after Rollo’s little slip up which his father was using as an excuse to try and get other counsel members of the Wizengamot to request he be made an Auror-in-Training. His father had been quite proud and at the recent party, which he only attended due to his mother’s request, Rollo had heard all about it. It was every bit as painful reliving it as it was hearing it the first time.
” THAT’S RIGHT! My boy took on and took down mind you a full fledged werewolf. If he can handle those beasts why can’t he handle being an Auror.”
“Dad that’s really not my job though it was onl....”
”Don’t be so modest you’ve got the scars from putting up with those animals. If anything I’m proud you ended up where you did much more adventure in that department. Doesn’t get the same prestige but by hell you have a much tougher job.”
“Whatever you say dad.”
His father was right on one count which was that werewolves were much worse then wizards. Had Rollo known that this is where he was going to land he would have just become an Auror because wizards usually didn’t have fangs. Not all werewolves carried wands but those who did were the ones that Rollo feared the most. They were the reason his body was in the condition it was now which was something he didn’t exactly enjoy he couldn’t blame it all on them though and he knew this. It was his own fault in most cases especially the last one as he had in such a hurry to deal with the situation and tried to move the man to an isolated area away from those he could harm had not checked the lunar calendar. Touching his chest he felt the deep scar that underlined his tattoo as if asserting the point even further. It was the one that man had given him, the man that he had killed. Rollo remembered why he hadn’t wanted to be an Auror because he didn’t believe he had it in him to kill people if necessary but from what he had just learned he was very wrong. Putting out the cigarette in the lone black ashtray in his apartment Rollo pulled on one of his usual clean plain white v neck t-shirts. Did he own others? Of course but most of them were reserved for painting and while he had robes he seldom wore them only around his parents and when appearing in front of the Wizengamot which despite his position he did quite a lot. Werewolf cases for the most part were all the same and while the older members of his department could have gone they didn’t want to because they heard it all before. Therefore they sent Rollo to sit through the things which forced him, much to their delight, to dress like what they termed as a respectable wizard. Sighing Rollo realized another reason he wanted to transfer.......he wouldn’t have to see his father as much. Lighting up another cigarette and placing his wand in the messenger bag now slung over his shoulder Rollo left his flat locking the door behind him.
