Accepted: welcome to the Wizarding World![/size]
[ Full Character Name: ] Aidan Fingal MacFusty
[ Character Gender: ] Male
[Character Age:] 20
[ Occupation Requesting: ] Dragon Keeper
[ Country of Citizenship: ] United Kingdom
[ Physical Character Description: ] It's all very well to believe that magic more than makes up for brawn, but when your work involves making gigantic, fire-breathing, magic-resistant creatures do things they don't necessarily want to do outdoors in all weathers, well, you become brawny whether you like it or not. Aidan MacFusty is no exception, not that he needed much help in the first place. Most members of the MacFusty clan are built large after generations of caring for Dragons, so part of it is genetics, and part of it is lifestyle.
Aidan stands at just under six feet in height, but his excellent posture and well muscled arms frequently give the impression that he is taller still. His arms, torso and legs are covered with burn scars and cut scars. He looks tan for a red-head, but in reality this is because he's mostly one large freckle.
His red (orange might be more accurate) hair is quite curly, and in general rather unruly although it can be made to lie flat and straight, it just takes too much effort. It also takes too much effort to keep his hair trimmed properly, so it generally reaches Aidan's jawline. His face is angular, with a tall forehead, wide grey eyes, narrow nose, and full lips.
Aidan wears mostly practical robes, quite a few of which are rather the worse for wear. As a fan of the Quidditch team the Pride of Portree he owns and occasionally dons quite a few pieces of purple and gold Quidditch memorabilia. His favorite colour, when it comes to dressing up, is green.
[ Personality Character Description: ] Solidly built, Aidan has a personality to match. You can't have someone on a Dragon Reservations who's going to panic the moment something goes wrong. Aidan keeps his head very well in a crisis. In fact, he does better when something requires quick thinking, than in long drawn out periods. He can handle responsibility if it is forced onto him, but he'd much prefer to let someone else handle it, and if it's for an extended period of time he finds it quite draining. He's quite intelligent, but can be very lazy, although he prefers to think of himself as efficient.
Aidan is stubborn. It's extremely hard to get him to change his mind once he's made it up, and he really really hates apologizing. He prefers a certain amount of independence. There are some people he would willingly follow through fire and water (and, in fact, he has) they're mostly all people he is related to, and because they've proved that they know how to be in charge. He does not trust easily. Aidan cares deeply for his family, and is loyal to a fault to those he loves and trusts.
When Aidan is not out with dragons he's a friendly, easy going guy who enjoys hanging out, playing Quidditch or going out for a few drinks and maybe some dancing. He can display a temper, particularly after a few drinks, but it has to be an issue he cares deeply about, which generally means it's either related to his family, dragons, or the Pride of Portree.
Aidan has a dry sense of humour and a sharp wit. He enjoys what he terms stimulating discussions, although others might describe them as heated arguments. He enjoys reading, contrary to what some might expect, although he prefers to do that outside. He doesn't enjoy being cooped up inside, and has a great deal of difficulty staying still indoors, although if he's out of doors he is perfectly content to simply sit and observe. He loves the ocean, and cannot conceive of living far from a large body of water of some sort or another.
[ History: ] Elspeth, chaser for the Pride of Portree, caught Quidditch fans by surprise in 1986 when she emphatically put rumours of an affair between her and the Magpies seeker to rest by announcing her engagement to Fingal MacFusty, a man a few years older than herself who, along with most of his relatives, worked on the main Hebridean Black dragon reservation. It was even more surprising when, a few years later, she retired, putting an end to a reasonably promising Quidditch career in order to raise a family.
Aidan was the first child, although he was followed a few years later by Fiona, and then by Scott. He grew up just outside the dragon reservation in a village which seemed more or less made up entirely of reservation people, which meant that Aidan was related to almost all of them in one fashion or another. He had a fairly happy childhood, and fell in love with the outdoors and dragons from an early age. Fortunately Elspeth, after her retirement, studied Healing, becoming a qualified nurse in order to patch up her husband and his coworkers, and so she was more than up to the task of healing her three rambunctious children and whichever of their many cousins they had roped into their latest escapades.
The MacFustys were largely left out of the war with Voldemort in so far as that was possible. They were pureblooded, more out of simple necessity than any particular philosophy one way or another. The Clan's first duty was to care for the dragons, as long as they did that, the rest of the wizarding world did not matter too terribly much. There were a few cousins who joined went off to join the snatchers for a year, but they were the ones who were lazy in the first place, so they were not much missed.
By the time Aidan received his Hogwarts letter, he was eager to go off to school. He was sorted into Ravenclaw, following his mother's footsteps (his father had been in Hufflepuff). He enjoyed his years at Hogwarts, particularly once he was able to add Care of Magical Creatures to his classes. Ancient Runes, his second elective, he also found fairly enjoyable.
Aidan tried out for Quidditch team, and played beater his last three years at Hogwarts. This seemed to increase his popularity with females, which he enjoyed. He went on several dates to Hogsmeade with various girls, but although he and a girl occasionally decided to be boyfriend and girlfriend, it never lasted very long. Perhaps it was partly that Aidan knew exactly what he wanted to do with his life, and some girls didn't consider it ambitious enough, others considered it too dangerous, and still others found the idea of dragons romantic which, while nice at first, got on Aidan's nerves because they did not really understand the beauty or the danger of the magnificent creatures he wanted to devote his life to.
He graduated from Hogwarts with a decent collection of NEWTs, and returned home, where he has been ever since (although he would like to make it clear that he does not live with his parents. He rents a flat about the muggle grocer. Who thinks he's extremely odd and possibly touched in the head, but that's besides the point). The work is hard, the pay mediocre, and he loves it. Now that he's really gotten into the swing of things, he's starting to pay more attention to what's happening in the wider wizarding world. He graduated from Hogwarts before it was completely clear just how bad things were getting. Some MacFustys expect to ride the turmoil out just as they did before. Others, however, are less optimistic.
[ Pros and Cons : ]
Pros:
Friendly ~ An optimistic person with a healthy family life, it's hard to imagine how Aidan could not be friendly. He's cheerful and outgoing and enjoys meeting new people. He's not always so good at maintaining a relationship though.
Loyal ~ Once a relationship has lasted for a decent period of time, however, it's there to stay. Aidan is fiercely loyal to his family and friends.
Intelligent ~ It's what landed him in Ravenclaw. Or perhaps it was his lack of ambition, lack of work ethic when it came to other areas and lack of foolhardiness. In any case Aidan is quite bright.
Cons:
Proud ~ He's proud of what he does. It's a demancing job physically, mentally and magically, and he does a damn good job at it too. He's also proud of his family. that is all very well, but Aidan can be touchier than he ought in these areas.
Workaholic ~ He really loves his job. Which means getting him to pay attention to something else can be difficult. Which means that he misses out on a lot.
Lazy ~ He simply is.

[Writing/Role Playing Example:]
It was nice having a mother who'd played professional quidditch. It meant that getting her a birthday present gave Aidan an excuse to drop by Quality Quidditch Supplies in Diagon Alley. Not that he needed an excuse beyond being in the general vicinity of the shop, but this way he could visit without feeling guilty that he wasn't off looking at flowers or chocolates or jewelry or something. Although flowers would actually probably be a good idea. Blast.
Maybe Fiona could take care of those. She could probably get some at Hogsmeade, right? Right. And Scott could help her. Somehow. Well, both of them would be making a monetary contribution to whatever present he decided on, although since Aidan was the only one of the three with a steady job he had no illusions that the split would be equal. He was alright with that.
What he wasn't alright with was that most of the Pride of Portree stuff his mother, or the family in general, already owned. Why didn't they have anything new? Aidan scowled at the shelves and ran a hand through his red hair, brushing it out of his grey eyes although his fingers snagged in the curls. It was his customary gesture of irritation.
