A brown eyebrow lifting ever so slightly as Vanessa filtered her fingers through her brown locks of hair. Why did all the owls have to look quite familiar to one another? Even after having hers for six years, it always took her at least a half an hour to find where Pepper was hiding. Usually, Vanessa found her in a dark corner, or standing with a group of other owls that looked exactly the same. Half the time, if it wasn’t for the unique heart shaped spot on the middle of Pepper’s forehead, Vanessa would never find her. However, today was going to be one of the long search days… Vanessa could just tell.
Whistling slightly, Vanessa looked though out the birds, walking and watching her step as she did so. All she needed was to fall in owl droppings. One foot in front of the other, she held out her arms slightly so that her balance wouldn’t falter, especially when she knew she didn’t have any to begin with and she began to call for her owl. “Pepper?” she said in more of a questioning kind of tone. “Come here, Pepper…” of course, all of the owls chimed in with the hooting and the cooing, and Vanessa couldn’t understand why they all then had to sound the same as well. Maybe she just wasn’t connected with her bird… was there such a thing?
Looking up, now standing by a wall, Vanessa squinted her eyes to try and look harder and further up into the dark tower. Of course, it didn’t much help, but it comforted her slightly to know that she wasn’t doing nothing to look harder for her owl. “Pepper? Come here, where ever you are. I have a letter for Victor!” As if the bird would come because she heard the name of her younger brother… Vanessa shook her head and sighed. Why wasn’t anything ever easy for her? She could only ponder the question for a moment however, as her feet began to slip from underneath her. Flapping her arms every which way, Vanessa began to fall backwards slightly, and for a moment she was glad that she was standing next to a wall that would hopefully break her fall. What she didn’t realize however, was how close to the window she also was.
Falling backwards, Vanessa reached out and grabbed onto the window’s ledge before finding herself going out the window backwards. Screaming, the next thing Vanessa knew, she was hanging out the window, one hand grabbing onto the ledge and supporting all of her body weight and she was looking straight down… Forehead sweating as well as her palms, she instinctively swung her free arm up the window ledge as well and struggled to keep herself steady, hoping her arms would not give out as she hung there.
“Help…” she whispered, not knowing if anyone would even come in time before her hands would slip. “Help me!” she said a bit louder, but still not much louder. “Pepper!!” She finally was able to yell.

Reading the letter over and over to herself, she thought it sounded alright to send along to Drew. Really, she wished she were a bit more girly, havng a scent to spray the paper with like in those older movies where the girl in love sprayed perfume on the letter she was to send out to the love of her life while he was at war. True, Drew wasn't at war, but she really did miss him greatly. But she knew how strange it would be to actually decide to start wearing something that wasn't her style and drown a letter in it to send along to him, he'd probably think she lost her mind, or something.
Entering the towers, immediately she started her search for Dustan, the elf owl her mum had given her not long before. Not noticing anything out of place in the area, she quickly scanned the owls, a small smile set in place when she spotted her very own ordinary owl. Now the trick was to coax him down to send him on flight with letter in tote.
But just as she was ready to pull a few owl treats from her pocket, in hopes of them working, a strange noise reached her ears.
"He--Hello?" she questioned, hearing the disembodied voice. Perhaps a ghost was playing a trick on her?

Vanessa heard another’s voice and she couldn’t believe her ears. Of course, at the very same time, she heard another familiar sound. The twittering of the yellow bird that followed her everywhere came into view as she hung on the outside of the tower wall. It was almost as if holding herself became a bit lighter, and the bird began to speak with her. What it was saying, Vanessa could never tell. But it began to whistle the sweetest song, almost making Vanessa forget all about where she was… which was not a good idea when she was trying to hang onto the wall… not falling to her doom.
Snapping out of it, Vanessa shook her head and came back into the reality that she knew. The wall, her slipping hands, the hundreds of feet below her that would ultimately kill her if she dropped… reality was beginning to suck more and more every day in Vanessa’s opinion.
“Help! Out the window!” she yelled out to whoever had said a word. Someone was definitely in the owlery, and it was clear that Vanessa, though her luck was limited for sure, it hadn’t run out completely.
“I slipped! Please help me!” Vanessa called out in a bit of a rushed tone.

Out the window? Felicity's light brown eyes traveled to the direction where it sounded the voice was speaking from, and where the voice was telling her to look. But out the window? Why in the world would someone be outside the window? Maybe they were trying to scale the towers? Surely the person knew, though, that the better towers to scale were the Astronomy one and one of empty ones out above the lake? Not out the owlry.
When the unasked questions were answered, Felicity's feet moved her forward without thought, and she glanced out the open area, without bothering to get too close. What if it was a trick by Peeves? Though, if it were Peeves, he'd gotten awfully good at throwing his voice and sounding like a girl in desperate need of help.
Taking a few more cautious steps forward, Felicity stayed just far enough back to be sure no one could grab her and take her out the window, standing on tip-toes to look down at a pair of hands barely grasping the ledge.
"...Vanessa?" she questioned carefully, recognizing the girl from her year and a few of her classes, though not really someone she spent much time with.

Footsteps heard moving closer toward the window, and it was just in time. Vanessa could feel her grasp loosening in the window and she wasn't sure exactly how much longer she could hold on before letting go was her only option. Shutting her eyes tightly, Vanessa waited, her heart pounding in her head as she did as such. It wasn't until a familiar voice was heard that her heart started to flutter a bit with relief and a bit of excitement.
"Felicity?" she questioned back at the girl who was looking down at her from above. "Oh, have mercy..." Vanessa struggled a bit before trying to reach up slightly with her hand toward the Gryffindor. She wasn't too strong, but she figured that Felicity would help her out of this situation in no time, so Vanessa took the chance of only hanging on with one hand fully and reaching up with the other. "Help me up?" Vanessa asked, almost too politely for the situation. "I've slipped and I'm loosing my grip."
Again, for how freaked out she was that she could actually fall to her doom, and how everything was just horrible at the moment, Vanessa's tone was still very soft, sweet, and much too calm. It was as if she was putting all of her trust into a girl she hardly knew to save her life, and not just stand there and watch her eventually fall. Then again, that was exactly what she was doing... thinking of course that anyone who would let another fall would just be plain cruel and unhuman-like.
Vanessa's way of looking at the world strewed, she continued to hold her hand out for Felicity to take, to help her up and back into the owlery.

How did this happen? Was it possible she slipped in some droppings and slid across the floor and out one of the many open windows? Maybe, but it sounded more like something she would do, or would happen to her rather. Anyway it was looked at, it wasn't a good situation, and Vanessa was hanging out a window...hopefully for dear life. The extended hand was a begging for help, something Felicity couldn't turn away (nor would she in other circumstances either). But what if she couldn't pull the girl through the window and into safety? What if she was somehow pulled through the window as well?
There just wasn't any time to really think, Vanessa needed help and no one likely in hearing distance of screams for more help.
Reaching out, she latched onto the girl's arm, holding just above the wrist, knowing how weak that part of the body really was, and not wanting the girl to be hurt. And though she was hoping to answer her cries for help, she couldn't help but notice the way she spoke, as though the situation were nearly as any other and she needed help for a school project, yet her voice still portrayed a certain amount of panic, just not enough.
"Come on, I've got you, we'll get you in," she answered, forcing the words out. She needed to figure out how to keep the girl from falling, and get her inside the castle again. Was there another ledge she could place her feet on, anywhere nearby?

Her fingers began to slip just slightly, accelerating her heart, just as Felicity grabbed onto her wrist. For a moment, Vanessa rethought her thinking and believed that Felicity might just allow her to fall... it wasn't as if they were really good friends or anything... but Vanessa's mind was at ease again. She knew the blond Gryffindor wouldn't let her fall. Even briefly thinking something of the opposite was preposterous. If this was any other time, Vanessa would have giggled at her own idiotic thought, but this was not like any other time, and she was still dangling for her life.
Come on, I've got you, we'll get you in. Vanessa smiled and a relieved feeling washed over her entire being. "Oh, thank you!" she said before trying to pull herself up the building as Felicity pulled her back in the window. It wasn't long before Vanessa could get her elbows over the ledge of the window, and then eventually, her entire body.
Resting on the floor, after she finally got back in, Vanessa shook her head. She was sitting in Owl dung, sweating, and her heart was pounding. Opening her closed eyes, she looked back at Felicity and gave a short, kind of relieved laugh and nodded. "Thank you. I can't believe my own insanity sometimes. I don't even know what happened. First I was in the tower looking for Pepper, and then boom!" she exclaimed. "I was hanging out on the outside wall of the tower. I didn't think anyone would hear me..." she rambled nervously.

"Let's wait for thanks when you're back in here..." Felicity's voice strained as she did her best to keep the girl from falling, and to get her back inside. It wasn't easy, not that Vanessa weighed a whole lot, but she was the average size of a human being. With her grip only on one of the Huffle girl's arms, she knew she couldn't afford to slip, let go, or get sweaty which cause either. But thankfully, like some kind of miraculous event, Vanessa managed to get a good grip and was inside, quicker than Felicity thought it would take, and much safer than moments before.
As soon as Vanessa's entire body was inside, Felicity sat right down on the floor, despite the surroundings, and let out a heavy sigh of relief, but her eyes didn't leave that of the brunette. Giving into a short laughter when she did, Felicity was just glad she didn't seem to be hurt. Actually, despite the circumstances, she looked very well off, and her bubbly talk soon after showed just that.
"I don't know," she answered, no thought of what could have happened as when she arrived the girl was hanging out the window and that was it. "Are you all right? You're not hurt are you?"

It was as if her body kind of just floated through the window, as if wings grew and with one good pull, Felicity had managed to get her inside with no problem at all. Vanessa, just a bit bewildered by everything just allowed it to happen and got in, only briefly glancing back at the twittering canary that she could only see. "Thanks," she had whispered to the bird lightly so that Felicity couldn't hear.
Sitting down next to Felicity, Vanessa nervously giggled and sighed. "That was some ride..." her words trailed off, knowing that being funny probably wasn't the best way to handle the situation, and yet she couldn't help herself. "...sorry, I just... I just don't know..." Vanessa shrugged and sighed once more looking down at her legs. "Yes, thank you. I'm all right."
Looking around at the ceiling Vanessa then spotted Pepper to her much disgust. "There you are, Pepper," she said irritated like.

"Some ride" Felicity echoed the words, not sure how to take them. If Vanessa considered that to be a ride, perhaps she should try out for the Hufflepuff Quidditch team, she'd be fantastic at stunts if that was her idea of fun. It'd be worth seeing, and it'd give Felicity a reason to watch the games when the season officially started. When the giggles subsided, the blonde could finally feel her heart pace slow, but not dramatically. This was going to take some time getting used to.
"How did you...Do you have any idea...Did you slip on something?" Just how had the girl ended up out the window, hanging on for dear life? Certainly it'd been an accident, but, did she slip on some owl dung? And if so perhaps they should find a Professor and warn them of the dangers of this particular tower and demand for its cleaning so another student wasn't hurt at another point in time? Vanessa was merely lucky Felicity had shown up when she had, what if she hadn't? Just how long would Vanessa be able to hold on?
"Were you after your owl?" she asked curiously, glancing up and catching sight of the numerous birds perched overhead.
