[ Nickname: ] K.C. or Kope
[ Pets: ] Borommakot, a barn owl, brown with black flecks.
[ Wand: ] Dragon heartstring, Yew, 7 ¼” inches
[ Blood Status: ] Half-Blood
[ Father: ] Alan Madrid (deceased), wizard, graduate from Hogwarts
[ Mother: ] Emily Madrid, muggle
[ Physical Character Description: ] K.C. is often, easily, and literally over looked; she stands only 3’4” and has the slender build to match. Once she is noticed there is not much to about her to keep your attention. Her black hair falls to her shoulders and is neither silky nor knotted. Her complexion rather fair is but far from a sickly pale color. Her lips are pale pink and hide a row of naturally strait white teeth and dimples appear when she smiles. Her eyes are the most memorable things about her, not that they are unusual in size or shape but the irises are pale gray; when you get just a quick glance at her in dim lighting sometimes it appears she has no irises at all and the rest of the time it is not the light color of them that is sticks so well in ones memory. She does not shy away from looking you in the eye and often when she does it is done with a look of hard cold calculation and restrained emotions. If you do not know how powerful one look can be just make Kopo angry and she’ll turn you to stone with a single glance.
She is good at concealing her emotions, she can hold back a flood of tears or suppress a smile. Of course she has a lot of practice at this since most of the time she holds her face in an appearance of utter blankness. No smile nor frown, eyes that gaze into the distance or sweep across a room but never lock onto one thing for more than a few moments; she looks blank for the most part but this can be perceived as little lost or depressed. Of course if she is happy she will not try to hold back a smile or force back her rolling laugh and if she is sad she will show it unless she is around people who she does not want to know it.
When she was younger she would often wear very flamboyant clothes so she was more easily noticed. She grew out of that stage years ago and has toned it down quite a bit since then, wearing mainly black or gray robes and sweatshirts and earth tones underneath. However she also has a love for belts and owns more fifteen, she has a few regular hats and a few beanies and about ten unusual ones that could never be found in a muggle shop, and she also does not own a pair of socks that does not have some picture or color on them.
[ Personality Character Description: ] K.C. does her best to remain detached. Though she has many friends who she likes to hang out or chat with she does her best to keep herself indifferent to them. She likes to be able to pick up and go without a second thought. Of course she is not perfect at this and if she is around a person who she likes for long enough she will get attached to this person. Often she severs all contact soon as this happens; she sees being attached as an anchor, as a weakness. As well as people she likes to keep herself detached from places. To be able to leave as if she has never been there is what she strives for. At home she has no pictures or posters on the walls, she has few possessions, and those things that are of value are always ready to be moved. This is all because she is afraid – not that she will admit it – but she is afraid of getting attached to something because then you might lose it.
In general she is a good person, she likes baby animals, she’ll help you if she can, and she’s kind to all who are kind to her and even to some who aren’t. She can have a short attention span at times, she’s very curious, a little forgetful, and has a brilliant mind for strategies and creativity. But mainly she is an observer. She likes to watch, and she is good at it. She pays very close attention to detail and picks up on things a lot of people miss. She’s very good at reading people and once she knows somebody she’s good at manipulating them.
She may be small but she has extremely passion and puts it into everything she does. She has a fiery spirit that she is able to contain most of the time but sometimes when her emotion gets the best of her it spills out in a tidal wave. It is not a wise thing to make her mad, she’s not afraid of a fight and loathing can fill her entire being in a second, who knows what will happen to you then.
She can be amazingly blunt, quite rational, and sarcastic. She has an easier time getting along with adults than with kids her own age and there are some times when she can love nothing more than a quick paced witty conversation. She likes things that challenge her and she likes conflict. She does not live off of it and at times she can hate it but she does find it perversely enjoyable.
So in short she makes friends easily but has a hard time keeping them, she likes to be indifferent and independent, and is an observer.
[ History: ] Her father – Alan – was a kind, joyful man with more courage than half the British army. He married a muggle woman – Emily – only a year after graduating from Hogwarts himself. He loved her with all his heart and it was not long until their first-born was on the way. This child, Jacob, would favor his mother in magical abilities and be a squib. Three years later Kati would be born, and from the start it was clear that she was a little witch. From bottles flying across the room when she was hungry to Jacob’s toys disappearing whenever he poked at her Alan knew that she would be a powerful little witch. Six years later Emily was pregnant again. She was on vacation with her mother in India when the Death Eaters attacked. See her father was a muggle-rights activist, he believed that the they should no longer hide but live openly and side by side with muggles. Two D.E. came and killed him, Jacob, and Kati.
The loss was a huge blow to Emily that sent her stumbling. She sold the house and moved in with her parents again. Then she had Kopo, two months early, and was certain that she would lose the last thing connected to her dear Alan. Kopo lived and Emily became fiercely protective. She never spent a moment away from her child until Kopo was four months old before she was able to leave her in the care of her parents. By the time Kopo was six she Emily was able to loosen her protective grip. This made for an easy first half of kindergarten since her mommy was always there and a second half terribly awkward and painful since she was not.
But she had a good life. Though her father was dead her grandpa – Papa Conner – filled the role of the male in her life. He was the one her first called her K.C. and it was from him she learned the love of outdoors, how to swim, how to ride a bike, and other such skills.
But for as long as K.C. can remember she was always different. It was not just that she was small but something else. She can recall one particular incident when she was seven and some bullies wouldn’t let her into the sandbox and all the sand turned to mud. Another time like this was when her hair turned from black to bright pink over night – her mother died it back so nobody outside the family knew about this.
When Kopo was nine her mother became pregnant with her long-time boyfriend Kaden. However it only took a few months into the pregnancy when he got cold feet and bolted. Devastated almost even more by Kaden walking out then Alan dieing she sunk into a deep depression that she did not get out of until the baby was born. Emily let Kopo help name her little sister, K.C. insisted most fervently that she be named Celia Kati Jacob Alan Emily Madrid and was disappointed when she named the little girl Cecilia Mountain Madrid – at least she had gave the idea for the first name. Kaden sent money back every months but the envelopes had no return address and the money was in cash. They have not heard from him in any other form since then.
When Kopo was eleven she received her letter inviting her to Hogwarts. This was a big surprise seeing as her mother had forgot to mention that little fact. She did not believe it until her mother showed her a video of her father teaching Jacob to fly and gave K.C. her father wand. It was not that hard for K.C. to leave all of her friends. Though she will miss them deeply she always kept herself rather detached which helped. Her father was in Ravenclaw, so she hopes that she will be in that house as well.
[ Pros and Cons : ] She is a kind person. She likes to help people, she likes to hang-out with friends, and she likes to listen. Her mild manner and easy going nature make is easy for people to walk over but also makes her an attractive choice for a friend. She won’t jump in front of a bus to push you out of the way but she will yell at you to get out of the way instead of just watching it happen, she’ll help you with your homework even if she isn’t done with hers, and of course she will always try to work out differences.
She’s has a good mind for strategies and is creative. Though she will never be able to paint a masterpiece or write a classic she can see a hundred different ways a scenario can play out and then the results of those results. Her imagination can take giant leaps from time to time making her a bit paranoid and always suspicious. She’d be good to have on your side of a war or designing your plays for a quidditch match because she is able to think outside the box and come up with things so ridiculous or so amazingly simple they always seem to work.
She is very passionate. Weather doing homework or drawing up complex battle plans (a hobby of hers) she puts everything she has into her work. The only time she has ever done something half-way was when something more important came up and she had to go and attend to that instead. If she believes in something she will stand up for it and if she is against something she will voice her opinion.
She is does her best to remain detached from the world. The passive observer is the role she slips into and is perfectly content to just sit back and watch. She has a hard time keeping friends for a long time because she gets attached to them and feels the need to separate herself from them. She keeps her personal life personal as well, if somebody knows something that can be used against her then she assumes they will. She has no problem about knowing the personal stuff about others that she can use as ammunition against them if she needs to. She keeps her place of dwelling void of all personal items and all personal items inside a backpack hidden underneath her bed but not far enough back she can’t access it easily.
Conflict can be the most thrilling thing in the world. An argument can make the moments during it incredibly horrible or enjoyable but almost always makes the rest of the day better. She’s gotten in a good number of fights in her life as well. She does not have the most feminine side when it comes to her views on violence. The only thrill greater than watching a fight is being in one and she defiantly does not mind getting her hands dirty (literally and metaphorically)
She can be – at times – very rational. She can calculate the scenario without letting her own personal feelings get in the way. She understands that some sacrifices must be made of the greater good. The end justifies the means; if the end result is what she wanted then it does not matter how many rules she had to break or people she had to hurt to get it.
[Role Playing Example:] He gave her a necklace. It was not her birthday or a holiday, he had just left her flowers and a necklace. She did not understand why he would do this but then again she didn’t even feel for him a fraction of the way he apparently felt for her.
With trembling hands she opened the envelope and pulled out a blue slip of paper and read aloud “Dear Kope, I like you immensely. I would like nothing more than to have dinner with you down by the lake Saturday evening. These gifts are just a small gesture of how I feel…” She couldn’t read any further. How was she to respond? Part of her wanted to weep with frustration and another wanted to run to him and tell him that they should have dinner tonight. He had obviously put a lot of work into the letter since normally he wrote, and spoke, in a much less refined manner. She could picture him sitting at an empty desk, crumpled papers spread out on the floor around him, then he would proudly hold his final one up, re-read it, nod, and slip it into the envelope. She should have stopped talking to him weeks ago, she was going to miss him.
Mumbling curses under her breath she drew out a piece of parchment and began to write a farewell letter in which she told him that she would not be able to attend the dinner or speak to him for several months outside of class. She had written dozens like it, to the occasional boy who shows an interest and to friends whom she had felt to close to.
