Full Character Name: Verina Soon-ei Alvarez
Gender: Female
Birthday: September 6th
Country of Citizenship: Brecon, Wales, U.K
Height: 5 foot 4 / 5 foot 5
Hair: Naturally blue hair
Eyes: large almond shaped blue-gray eyes
Dad: Josue Alvarez. Mexican, pure-blood
Mom: Mina Braunhiem (formerly Alvarez before taking back her maiden surname) half German, half Korean, dad muggle-born, mom half-blood
Siblings: Kasch Alvarez, twin brother
Pets: owl: Brownie, co-owner of
Physical Character Description: Verina has a fairly athletic build due to the amount of physical activities she loves to participate in. She wouldn’t be considered a drop dead gorgeous girl but her wacky and carefree attitude and quick smile give her a different kind of beauty. Having long straight hair she sees no reason in doing much to it like decorating it up since it’s added volume due to her father’s heritage gives it just the right amount of bounce and thickness that it doesn’t just look stiff or unkept like normally straight hair. Her naturally medium brown locks dip down to her midriff though currently she’s dyed her hair blue to match partly with her large almond shaped blue-gray eyes. She mostly just dresses casual usually in pants and t-shirts since she prefers to be comfortable rather than plucked and pruned which she finds only causes her to feel stiff and confined in her own skin. Though she’s been considered to be somewhat a tomboy in the past she doesn’t mind. Since though she may be one she still has a feminine side. =P Her appearance doesn’t matter all that much to her and her usual makeup is strictly lip gloss, eye shadow, and occasionally mascara on special occasions. She’s about 5’4 last time she checked so knowing her that might not be accurate but most likely.
Personality Character Description: She’s the type of girl that isn’t afraid of making a fool of herself in fact when she does she just laughs at herself because she sees the situation for what it is an embarrassing, yes, but funny experience * cough * accident. Sadly she isn’t the most coordinated person when it comes to some of the simplest things but when it comes to sports it’s the complete opposite. Maybe because she’s such a klutz she’s developed the ability to laugh at herself or maybe its because she’s fallen on her face her fair share of times. But besides all that she’s pretty much a carefree girl usually never taking anything too seriously unless she senses that one of her friends is having a hard time and needs someone to talk to and someone just to be their for them to listen and not make judgments. What really ticks her off is when people take advantage of other people’s vulnerabilities and try to exploit them. Normally she’s a good girl and mind you I mean that in the sense that she rarely explodes into sudden moments of anger or outrage. But if you push this girl far enough she’ll push back she’s not about to take smack from anyone especially when they attack verbally or physically the people she cares about and/or loves.
History: Both Verina’s parents had been young when they’d married barely at the age of 20. Her parents had known each other through mutual friends and occasionally spoke to each other since her mother's boyfriend at the time had been her father's best friend. Somehow sadly like it always is when a relationship is torn asunder things didn’t work out once they’d all graduated. Oddly enough her father Josue Alvarez and her mother Mina Braunhiem became good friends after they’d graduated and following that year they’d begun to date and by the time the next year came around they got married. Smitten by love and the idea they wed, too young perhaps.
6 months after they’d gotten married her mother was found to be pregnant placing strains on her and Josue’s careers and goals.9 months after that Mina gave birth to twins one being a girl whom they named Verina and a son named Kasch. They decided to raise their children in Luebeck Germany since Mina had spent most of her growing years in Germany. Sadly at the age of 5 years old it had become obvious that things weren’t working out between her parents despite her father’s attempts at keeping their young family together.
Her mother had decided that it would be best they went their separate ways and filed for a divorce and in the custody hearing it was decided that Verina would remain with her father and her brother Kasch would live with their mother. Which had been slightly odd since usually the daughter would go with the mother and the son with the father. At the time Verina and Kasch had been too young to understand what was happening nor that they wouldn’t be seeing each other as much as before.
Verina’s dad began to consume himself with work perhaps to try not to think about what had really happened but that’d left a 5-year-old girl to come to terms with what was happening on her own. Her dad had remained in Germany for 2 more years for Verina’s own sake so she could still see her mother and brother as well as so he could see his only son. Having been proposed a higher position in Mexico he decided to move them their plus the majority of his family was there and it seemed that Verina needed to be in a loving atmosphere without stress.
That’s how it came to be that at the age of 7 Verina left everything she’d known and begun a new life in a place completely opposite to what she’d been brought up to. She also hadn’t known that that would be the last time she’d see her brother for 3 ½ years. In this new and strange place Verina got herself involved in the muggle sports of soccer and track/cross-country since her dad’s family lived near a muggle community and often spoke to them. She found that through these sports she could free her mind and just have fun and be carefree at least as long as she was able. She did manage to remain in contact with her brother though through their mutual owl Brownie (stupid name I know but remember she was 7, no wait that’s cute ). She made new friends and quickly fit in due to her antics and personality. Her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins helped enormously in helping Verina find her way from that lost girl that had fallen on their doorstep so to speak. In this time her dad began to smile again and play with her. In many ways this is the time when she grew completely attached to her dad and distanced from her mom.
At the age of 11 her dad had decided to move them to Korea since Verina had found out through her brother that they’d moved close to their grandparents on her mother’s side and he spent most of his time there. Josue and Mina had come to the decision that it was time their children saw each other since it hadn’t been fair to rip them away from each other just because things hadn’t worked out between them and they’d been to put it simply young and stupid at the time in the way they’d handled things. It had been hard for Verina to say bye to everyone she’d come to love but at the chance of seeing her brother again and being a kind of family again she couldn’t stop waiting anxious and excited at the same time to move to Korea.
She quickly immersed herself in her grandmother’s culture and even took up Tae Kwon Do with her brother. Verina was finally able to see her brother again and they always found themselves spending most of their time at their grandparents hearing stories about the past from both of them. A year later she began her studies beside her brother in Korea. While at the academy she took up Quidditch and found that though she wasn’t the smartest girl in her classes she did fairly well. Her grandparents were the one’s and her time in Korea that aided in the development of who she now is. Those were perhaps her happiest years and she’ll always remember them warmly.
Now she’s found herself thrust into another world and she’s reeling to explore it and make it her home. Though it had been a sad parting for all of them they decided they’d all remain in contact. Her mom was offered a promotion in Germany so they’d moved back there and Verina’s dad had been offered a good job in the U.K. Which brings us to our current chapter in her history and Verina’s excitement and being accepted to Hogwarts.
Special Talents/Knacks: Due to the fact that she’s been thrust into one world after another so to speak Verina is fluent in English and Spanish as well as having some knowledge of German (despite the fact that her name’s German….) and Korean (and her middle name is). She's great at sports and will play pretty much anything you put her up to. She’s caring, funny (even when she’s seriously not trying to be), and open to new things and experiences. Because of her rocky beginning Verina tends to be withdrawn at times from people when it comes to her personal feelings and emotions that can sometimes hurt others though she doesn’t mean to. Perhaps because of her state of mind when she’d been a child she’s the way she is in the sense that she tries to live life to the fullest, take one day at a time, and just make other’s laugh and in doing so herself.
