[ Physical Character Description: ] At eleven years old, Fiona still stands much shorter than children of her age. Pale skin makes her blue eyes seem darker than they really are, and her cheeks are easily marked with red when she is upset or excited in any way. Long dark hair flows past her shoulders, which her mother forbids her to cut though she swears it gets in her way. She looks fragile and thin, but has spent many years chasing after her cousins and step brother, and is more resilient than she lets on.
[ Personality Character Description: ] Living with only her mother for the first few years of her life, Fiona is very much a girly girl. She loves dresses and and tiaras, and her mother taught her to act as a little lady. She generally doesn't approve of dirt or the color gray, but has expanded her tolerance when their little family was joined by a step father and brother. She quickly learned how to survive among the presence of older, obnoxious boys and was soon accepted as a formidable playmate. She is generally bossy and stubborn, but she figured out that if she somehow managed to let them think that she had compromised to accommodate them, or that they got their way, she got a way with a lot of things if she'd just shouted at them a lot.
Fiona is smart with dealing with other children, and can get them to follow her lead, but won't even try approaching them at all if she can't find an easy way in. She had never kept a secret from her mother until she was about 7 years old, when many odd things began happening around her. When she found out she was a witch, she was so excited to know why so many things had happened and why she always felt something wasn't right. She's wants to meet other witches as wizards, though she is worried that she won't be good enough.
[ History: ] Devin Hagsworth and Samara Faine were absolutely made for each other. They had met in muggle Paris while they both were on business trips and corresponded for a few weeks before Devin finally gave in and met her. Samara thought that their meetings were always in odd places and times; pubs before noon and carnivals after they were closed, but she was falling in love so quickly that she didn't even think about asking. They were both very busy, and any time they could spend together was precious. All seemed well up until Devin showed up to Samara's flat, urging to be let in. She barely had time to greet him when he burst in, asking her to marry and go away with him. Samara was so elated that she didn't notice the hint of panic in his eyes, and quickly agreed. He went into her room packed her things almost too quickly and told her to wait for him right there in the living room. He would be back in less than an hour, he had only one thing to resolve before they left.
Samara waited in her living room until the sun rose before she went to her room to sleep for what seemed like days. She thought she would never wake up again. The next day, she was summoned by a knock on her door. She hadn't eaten anything from the disappointment and was surprised of the burst of energy she had to run to the door. Already crying, she prayed for Devin, but instead was greeted by two severe-looking adults, dressed oddly in cloaks. The man looked like he was offended, the woman uncomfortable but interested in Samara. They introduced themselves as Theodore and Dorothea Hagsworth, Devin's parents. Samara was in shocked and at a complete loss for words as Dorothea explained to her that the Hagsworths were a wizarding family, and that Devin had been a wizard.
They didn't have much time to explain, but there was war among wizards and Devin had been a casualty. In their world, it was inappropriate for someone like Devin to see someone like Samara, but he had confided in his mother. The war had hit a height of tension and violence, which was why Devin had planned to take Samara away. It was only at Dorothea's insistence that they tell Samara everything and not Obliviate her memory. She believed her son had loved Samara very much. The father soon interjected and commanded Samara to not try to find them, they would be unreachable, and were uninterested in her anyway.
Several weeks later, after Samara had almost convinced herself that it had all been a terrible, elaborate nightmare, she learned that she was pregnant. The shock was soon overwhelmed by the joy she felt at having a piece of Devin with her forever. Eight months later, Fiona Deena was born in the middle of the hot summer. Samara saw Devin's blue eyes and dark hair in her, and tried her best to put the rest behind her. Fiona and Samara were attached at the hip during her childhood. Fiona was quiet, and observant, but spoke intelligently whenever she did. It surprised Samara how much she absorbed because she never demonstrated any progress often.
Fiona was 5 when Samara had met a very lovable man named Henry. When Fiona was left with the babysitter so that Samara could go out with Henry, her temper tantrum and overflowed all the sinks and toilets in the house. It took him over two years, but he finally convinced Samara that she would be happy with him. Henry and his son Eric, age nine, moved in with the girls when Fiona as 7. Fiona was happy to finally have a playmate, but learned that boys played differently. She had a rough time at first, but she soon was able to compete with Eric in ways he wasn't even aware of. By this time, Fiona was an expert at keeping secrets. She saw many things happened that were odd and that sometimes scared her. She stopped telling her mother, and was always walking on eggshells, waiting for the next odd thing to happen.
After she turned 11, there was a knock at the door and Fiona and Eric raced to the door to answer it. Beyond the threshold was an oddly dressed man who asked for Mr. and Mrs. Donovan. When they turned the corner to the entrance, Samara turned pale white and seemed to struggle for words before telling the children to go to their rooms. Eric and Fiona argued for about 10 minutes about the best way to eavesdrop, but their discussion was interrupted when Fiona was summoned. Henry looked worried and Samara cried silently while the Ministry of Magic official told Fiona that she was a witch. Before the Diagon Alley trip and on the way to King's Cross Station, she had never seen Henry and Samara seem so quiet and distant. She was worried as she was sent to Hogwarts, and ordered Eric to write to her often to tell her what was happening.
Fiona will start her first year at Hogwarts still not knowing that her father was a wizard.
[ Pros and Cons: ]
Pros:
- Fiona has a lot of common sense which complements her natural intelligence. She's quick on her feet and can get herself out of trouble.
- Being an only child for so long has made Fiona interested in meeting other children. She's open to socializing and is generally pleasant, she only resorts to lies or maneuvering if she feels threatened.
- Fiona likes a challenge. She's open to learning something new, though not without being hard on herself for not learning quickly enough.
Cons:
- Secrets are a new talent for Fiona. She started hiding her odd experiences, which soon were translated into fibs and, later, to lies. She knows it isn't right to lie, but seems convinced that they're ok if they don't hurt anyone.
- She doesn't like being wrong. It takes her some trouble to accept it, and hardly tries to make up for it if she's upset someone else. Eric has several welts on his shin due to this.
[ Role Playing Example: ] The sun was setting, lighting up Fiona's little room in deep reds and yellows, washing out the pinks and deep purples of her bed covers and rug. She sat at a dark, wooden desk, shined to perfection that Henry had given to her. It was organized and clean; Fiona didn't like her things to be messy. A item was there, open and flat as Fiona read the words over and over. The page as thick and rich, and the script was narrow and neat. She hoped that if she practiced enough, her penmanship would be as pretty. Her thoughts were soon thrown aside by the meaning of the words on the parchment, and gently touched the very edge of the sheet.
She remembered the Minsitry Official asking her if odd things had happened around her, and she hadn't flinched at all when she lied and told him no. Either he knew she was lying, which worried Fiona, or it didn't matter. He had continued his explanation and told her that she was a witch. There were many things that bothered Fiona at this point. But what bothered her was that she couldn't quite order them by severity. She was astonished that witches and wizards existed, but she had inexplicably had felt a sense of relief from the knowledge. It was a piece of a large puzzle she didn't realize was missing. A little smile appeared on her face as she shifted to the second page, her school supplies, and wondered what exactly was a flobberworm.
