Accepted! Welcome to Hogwarts.
[ Full Character Name: ]Professor Halonius Bartius Afalus
[ Character Gender: ]Male
[Character Age/Birth date:]March 1st, 1960/ 49 years old
[ Position Requesting: ]Professor of Ancient Runes
[ Country of Citizenship: ]Ireland
[ Physical Character Description: ]Halonius is a man of 5 foot 2 inches, and mid age. A scent of Old Spice follows his limping gait wherever he goes. He could make any woman fall for him with his scent and gorgeous blue eyes, well groomed light brown hair, and a blondish brown beard. Halonius may not be buff, but by no means is he overly skinny. He lands right on the tee of attractively athletic. All in all Halonius had the right and proper build to cast advanced charms.
When Halonius has spare time he tends to wear casual wizard robes. A pair of blue jeans and a tee-shirt is what you might find him wearing underneath his robes. If the day was bright and sunny out Halonius would use a charm to turn his prescription glasses into a pair of sunglasses. The glasses that he wore were of the horn rim type that was popular in the days when he attended Hogwarts in his youth. A pair of sneakers are what usually graced his feet on his spare time.
On the days that Halonius is teaching he will tend to wear a plain black robe. Always were his teaching robes pressed and neat with seams and all. Underneath his robes Halonius wore a pair of dress pants and shirt that would seem as regular casual dress clothes to the muggle eye. Of course all of Halonius' wardrobe had a pocket that he charmed specially for the holding of his wand. And of course what teaching outfit would be complete without a pair of polished pair of dress shoes, even though they may be uncomfortable.
[ Personality Character Description: ]As outgoing a person you could ever meet, that is what people would say when they met Halonius Afulas. That trait of Professor Scott is one that has helped him keep up with each generation that has come through Hogwarts since he has been a teacher. Though when in the presence of his fellow Professors, he can be kind of timid and shy, especially when a new professor joins the school. When dealing with students, he is always mindful to make sure that every student is treated with equal regard, and respect. Though when necessary Halonius would not think twice about just and proper punishment when students break the rules.
When it comes to his friends, Halonius is steadfast and loyal to a fault. Be it known though that he does not take quickly to friendship. To him a friendship must be earned with trust and sacrifice. Once someone does Halonius wrong, they will not so easily earn the trust and friendship they once had. Though outgoing, he is slow to trust and friendship.
Once an enemy of Professor Afulas always an enemy. Halonius' anger is a long fuse by most accounts, but burn that fuse to it's end and you will have an enemy most deadly in the area of charms, hexes, and jinxes'. All in all Halonius Afulas has a well rounded personality that helps him to get along with just about anyone, lest they be his enemy.
[ History: ]Halonius Afulas was born to an old pure-blood family in the town of Godric's Hollow. There he experienced a pretty happy child hood. He was riding a toy broom by the age of three. Two sisters where Halonius' company throughout the first ten years of his life. Wendy and Lorlana where their names, and it was they that taught Halonius most of the morals that he now has. Though he may have been able to ride a toy broom at the age of three,(which in no means was extra-ordinary) the most amazing thing was that the toy broom was just an ordinary broom that he accidentally placed the proper charms on with the uncontrolled magic that a child wizard will experience.
It was then that his parents were sure that Halonius would be accepted into Hogwarts. Where ever his mother took him, she always boasted about his born talent with magic and that he was sure to become the best of their family at charms. It was this that instilled the timid, and shy traits that he would carry for the rest of his life. When Halonius was 11 years old he was accepted into Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, as his mother had always know he would be. There had not been a squib in their family for at least one-hundred years, owing to the fact that they were after all a pure-blood family.
It was at Hogwarts that he was sorted into Ravenclaw, the house known for its smarter and cleverer students. His house assignment in itself excited him because his mother and father had also been a Ravenclaw. From that time forward Halonius strove to be the best in all his classes. Though that was not to be for he was only average in most classes, and excelled at Charms, Transfiguration, and Ancient Runes. By the time Halonius finished his seventh year, he was ready to go to Wizard college in order to become a professor of Transfiguration, Charms, or Ancient Runes. When he finished this he returned to teach at Hogwarts, but that was not to be, for Hogwarts already had a
Professor for each of the subjects that he was qualified to teach.
After Dumbledore denied the teaching post on the count that it was already filled, Professor Afulas decided that he would go on a trek through Europe for some time. The start of his trip took him back to his home country of Ireland, a place that he knew that he would find many Ancient Runes that had yet to be deciphered. First to Dublin Castle and many other castles around Ireland is where he went and found many runes. Halonius, being very good at translating runes to begin with, took record of all his translations and where they came from. On the portion of his trip to Stone Hedge, Halonius found some very ancient runes that he had never seen before.
Setting to work on deciphering the message in the runes, he uncovered the meaning. After realizing what the message was and what it could mean to the wizarding world, Halonius knew there was one place that he definitely would have to take it to, the Ministry of Magic. When he arrived at the Ministry, and checked in his wand, Halonius was directed to the head of the Department of Mysteries. He was told by the head of the department that they had been waiting for him for over 5 years now knew that he would be coming. Halonius was there told that the Department of Mysteries had a position open for him deciphering ancient runes if he so wished to take it. That was about 10 years before Harry Potters fist year of Hogwarts that he took the position with the department of mysteries.
In that time Halonius kept to himself, practically living at the Ministry, deciphering runes and codes that the enemies of the Ministry wrote and sent out. Though any word of what he did for the department he could not let out to anyone. In that time Halonius did have an apartment in London with a fidelius charm so that no one that he did not tell the location could not bother him in his work. After deciphering many a dark message, dark thoughts began to pervade his mind, though kept at quite a remote part of his memory that would not effect him and his work, or future work for that matter.
After the second fall of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, Halonius decided to take leave from the Department of Mysteries with the then Department's Head. After making many oaths that prevented him from speaking of any of the messages that he had deciphered for the ministry, yet still be able to maintain an ample knowledge of ancient runes that would qualify him to teach, which was what he now wanted to do. So with his new qualifications, Professor Afulas went to Hogwarts to apply for the open position of Professor of Ancient Runes in the year of 2009.
[ Pros and Cons : ]Professor Afulas is nothing short of helpful to any who approach him. He has never turned down a request for extra help from a failing student, or one that just wants to improve their grades. Whenever a fellow Professor turns up needing advice, Professor Afulas never turns them away. After many years of being an outgoing but timid person, Professor Afulas had gained many qualities that allowed him the ability to see all points of view and hear people out.
On the downside though, the many years of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named's first and second reign has turned his views to those of the "Code Elevens" that emerged after the downfall of the Dark Lord. Recently Professor Afulas has been looking down on any but pure-blooded students. Not hearing them out properly has lead many a non pure-blood student to have lower yet not failing grades. Secretly, Professor Afulas has wanted to join the purist community of Deva, and help to preserve the race of witches and wizards.
Professor Afulas is a very patient man that knows how to listen to everything before making a decision. He knows how to wait for hours at a time before it's his turn to do something worth while. Waiting for the right words to come to mind is what made every word of his worth hearing. All in all patience was one of Professor Afulas' more worthy traits.
Though patience was one of his traits, his short temper was one of Professor Afulas' major downfalls. Some might have said to be careful of not upsetting or insulting him. For when you did, Professor Afulas would not very easily forgive you, or give you lenient punishment. Tough and hard as a rock he was when angered. So point and case, no one wanted to get Professor Afulas angry, they wanted to stay on his good side.
Loyal, that was another good trait that was part of Professor Afulas. Once you made a friend of Professor Afulas, he would forever your friend unless you somehow wronged him personally. Though it takes a while for Professor Afulas to consider you a friend, it is well worth the time and effort put into it. Always did he put his friend before himself even if they might have been wrong. If that did not show him to be ever so loyal, nothing did.
Coward, that is what described Professor Afulas, in certain issues. He could not find the courage to stand up to the Purist idealism of the death eaters or the Deva. Hence for he decided that he would adopt the ideals of the purist idealism because of his lack of courage to stand up to them. Even in his childhood, Professor Afulas cowered before enemies that were stronger than him. Loyal though he was he could not stand up to his stronger enemies. Hence forth his neutrality until the uprising of the Elevens/Deva.
[Credentials:]Professor Afulas had received and O for outstanding on both his O.W.L.S and N.E.W.T's for transfiguration, Astronomy, Muggle Studies, Ancient Runes, and Charms. After many secluded nights in the Department of Mysteries, Halonius was most apt at teaching students how to translate ancient runes, and how to apply it to modern uses. Not only that but he also gave private lessons to many home-schooled pure-blood and half-blood students during his tenure with the Ministry of Magic. Most if not all of the students that he gave private lessons always passed their classes with A for average, or O for Outstanding on their exams. Not only that but Professor Halonius Afulas also gave private lessons to some of the students of Hogwarts that needed extra help in their studies of Ancient Runes. Though of that nobody ever seemed to want to mention that in the histories that spoke of the second rise and fall of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. In short Professor Afulas was well qualified for the Post of Professor of Ancient Runes.
[Writing/Role Playing Example:]It was a dark and stormy night at Hogwarts castle and it was Professor Afulas' night for patrol. Long and lonely, that's what was in store for the night. Maybe if he was lucky Halonius would run across a few students out of bed, students that he could detain in his office for a half hour or so. Time that he could use to grade a few more essays on the use of the Wingardium Leviosa Charm and how to apply it to every day uses.
"Lumos" Professor Afulas whispered. His wand lit a five meter area around him. As the light wandered down the hall with the Professor, it illuminated the many magical portraits that lined the halls. Just as he was about to round the corner to the next corridor, Halonius spotted a student as he knew he would eventually. It had been three hours on patrol, and he was starting to want to sit down and rest for at least a half hour.
"Stop right there Miss Weasley," Halonius said, "its time that you learn to follow the rules." So Professor Afulas, lets see now... seeing that you have had no other offenses that I know of Miss Weasley, I will only say that you need to be headed strait back to the Gryffindor Common room." Nothing else needed to be said to Professor Afulas' mind. He did not need any more trouble than was necessary. He just wanted to get back to his rounds.
