In all honesty Beau didn't like flying a whole lot. So it was curious why he would be waiting with two broomsticks propped over his shoulders, waiting somewhat impatiently at that. He leaned casually against an old oak tree located next to the lake, humming to himself as he stood. Ever the awkward one Beau couldn't help but feel out of place. Sure he spent most of his days outdoors, but this time it was different. Special, even.
How it was different still scared him a bit, but it was different and special because he was waiting for someone in particular. People passed now and then, waving if they noticed him standing there, continuing on by if they didn't. He felt like a loser because every time someone would walk by he would look up expectantly, waiting to see the face he was so nervous and excited to see. He really wished that instead of holding two broomsticks he was holding a guitar, strumming it and writing a song. Even playing some random song would suffice.
Beau looked down at his outfit, thinking he looked okay. He hadn't tried to overdress, knowing that with the October winds it would be a bit chilly in the air. His shirt was an old button down flannel shirt in red and black, and his pants were well worn blue jeans. On his feet he wore work boots, as the mud was getting a bit tedious out on the grounds. He took in a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. It wasn't a date... was it?

Maya had spent almost half an hour rummaging through the contents of her trunk, pondering and discarding outfit after outfit. She had no idea what one was supposed to wear to fly in, most of her flying lessons had been spent firmly on the ground and she tended to avoid watching her classmates as they diped and dived through the air. It made Maya queesy just thinking about it. Was she supposed to look pretty? Maya wasn't sure she could pull off the pretty thing. "This is why you need female friends Maya," she had grumbled to herself as she tossed away a plain longsleeved black shirt, "they are supposed to be the ones to decide if this is a date or not and help you dress yourself since you obviously can't." After that bout of nervous bitterness Maya had mumbled something about talking to herself and had then shut up.
Maya had guy friends sure, like Luke or Derrick, but Beau was different in the way that made her wonder if she should actually try to do something with her hair. Yes, Beau was very different but in a good way hopefully. When Maya finally made her way down to the lake where they had decided to meet, she walked quickly with her head down, tiny hands shoved in her pockets and her heart beat thumping faster with every step she took. In the end she had decided to go with comfortable if not flattering. She was wearing an old pair of ratted blue jeans, and after spending ten minutes fretting over what shirt to wear she had finally thrown on a brown hoody that had "I'd rather be at the barn" stamped across her chest, over a plain long sleeved tshirt. Her shoes were a comfy pair of old broken in leather paddock boots that she would wear for almost any occasion. As for her hair, Maya had decided to put it into two tiny pigtails, but there wasn't much she could do about her stubborn supposed-to-be-sidesweeped-bangs.
As she made her way across the grounds Maya quickly scaned in front of her and caught sight of Beau standing alone with two broomsticks in his hand, and her heart thumped awkwardly off beat in her chest. Her pace slowed as she walked up to him, her lips curving into a small shy smile. "Hi," she said meaning to sound casual but her voice came out as a terrified squeek. Maya ducked her head and her first blush of the day creeped across her golden cheeks making them glow with a rosy hue. Maybe if she got lucky, Beau would mistake her nervousness for her fear of flying. "Have you been waiting long?" she asked her warm mahogany eyes slightly worried.

Beau hadn't been waiting long, but he felt like it was an eternity before he spotted Maya walking towards him. The first thing he noticed was her hair, kept in two cute little pigtails, the second thing he noticed was her hoodie and the words on it. It made him laugh, because he would rather be at the barn, too. Well, he would rather be somewhere else not flying, but he would still prefer Maya's company. He was thankful that she couldn't hear his garbled thoughts. A smile naturally lit up the boy's face as she neared close enough to be able to talk.
" Uh, hey. " He responded to her squeak greeting with a small smile, wondering if she was nervous, too. " Nah, just a couple minutes. You're right on time... " He trailed off a little and set the brooms down on the ground so he wouldn't have to hold them anymore. " Want to get started? "

Beau's friendly smile eased Maya's nervousness a bit and her heart beat slowed to a mild gallop. She grinned back, bitting her lower lip in a self concious way but at least he seemed to be happy to see her. Hidden behind her floppy bangs, Maya's gaze swept over her companion as she tried to make sure she hadn't underdressed, and she sighed slightly in releif. His cloths were simple and looked snsable for the weather, but he was still breathtakingly gorgous.
When he spoke, Maya glanced up to meet his ocean colored eyes, her own slightly wild and panicy before she she looked down to to gaze uncertainly at the two broomsticks he had set on the ground. Stealing herself, Maya swallowed and nodded. "Yeah," she said her voice slightly breathless, "no time like the present to face your greatest fear," she joked with a half hearted laugh. Maya breathed in deeply and rolled her shoulders as she tried to loosen her tense muscles but her hands were still clenched into fists but hidden in her pockets. "So...what do I do?" she asked tilting her head slightly as she continued to stare at the brooms. It was obvious that Maya was rather clueless when it came to flying, and she hopped Beau would mind having to play the teacher.

Beau made sure he didn't stare too much at Maya, she looked quire adorable at the present moment, and grinned a crooked grin at her little joke. " We'll take it slow, honestly. " To him the nerves came from this gathering or whatever it was with Maya, but to her he guessed there would be even more nerves due to the fact that she was indeed facing her greatest fear. In his first conversation with Maya it had been revealed that she was deathly afraid of heights. Since then Beau had taken some time to think about what he was afraid of. Mostly it wasn't physical things such a heights or spiders, it was stuff that could possibly happen. Still though, it made him think.
" Alrigh', " He handed off the smaller of the two brooms to the girl, not wanting her to feel like she was getting more than she bargained for when it came to the broomstick itself. Once he was holding only his own broom he stepped over it as he talked, doing what he instructed her to do.
" Okay, first you just step over it. Keep ya feet firmly on the ground until you're ready to kick off. Okay? " He wanted to make sure that they didn't go too quickly, because if it was him facing a big fear he would want it the same way. His blue green eyes latched briefly onto her mahogony ones, his lips lifting into a smile, attempting to reassure her. He had no idea if he was doing an alright job at it, but he hoped so.

Maya stared at the broomstick Beau was offering her with a mixture of terror and determination, but it took her a mew moments to make herself reach for it. Come on Maya you gotta do this, she thougt to herself and she forced her fingers to unclench then reached out to take the broom with only a slightly trembling hand. The corner of her mouth twitched in a small amused smile as she noted how small her broom was compred to Beau's, but considering her size she could tell why. She nodded again and gave Beau a small smile as he tried to reasure her.
She watched him carefully and mimiced his instructions. She swung her leg over the broom and shook her head, chuckling to herself. "This feels silly," she laughed looking up to see that Beau was watching her. She blushed again but was still smiling, "When you ride a horse you have a lot more holding you up than a stick...and you're usually closer to the ground." She shrugged her shoulders and licked her lips nervously. "So how high are we going? I think I'll be ok as long as I don't look down..." her voice was a little strained and she was gripping her broomstick with her tiny white knuckled hands but maybe if she continued to stare at Beau's stormy eyes she wouldn't start panicing.

Beau wasn't really used to flying, and he sortof began questioning why he had agreed to show someone how to fly in the first place. Recalling his first meeting with Maya, though, it was easy to remember how stunned he had first been by her. He thought it was perhaps a combination of her cute accent and her seemingly irrational fear of flying mixed with his infatuation with her that led him to agree and even suggest to this. His smile never faltered throughout these thoughts, he was glad to be able to help her in some way. The Hufflepuff boy discarded these thoughts, not remember what he had been thinking really as Maya's laughter reached his ears.
A grin settled onto his lips and he chuckled, thinking that Maya would look much more comfortable atop a wild horse than she did on the broomstick. " I've never really ridden horses myself, and I'm a bit indifferent to flying, so I couldn't tell you the difference honestly. " He paused and pushed himself off of the ground so he was hovering about it, his feet lightly grazing the grass. " Not very high, don't want you falling over again..." He paused to laugh softly at the memory. " When you're ready just lightly kick off of the ground, nice 'nd easy like. "

Maya's look of concentration and bitter determination returned to her face as she stared at her tiny hands gripping the broomstick so fircely. As he spoke a wry smile touched Maya's lips and she glanced up breifly to look at Beau wondering for a moment what he would look like on one of her untrained ranch horses instead of a broom, out of his element. She laughed with him when he mentioned their first, and in Maya's case, rather embaressing meeting. She remembered the whole conversaion perfectly from the moment she had inturrupted his quiet morning. She could recall every shared smile, every blush, every moment of shy eye contact, but at the moment Maya was remembering with perfect clarity the look of concern that had been on Beau's face when she had opened her eyes to find that he was sitting next to her only a few inches away while she had been lying flat on her back after topling over like an idiot. Oh well, that first meeting had led them to this, oh so wonderful, moment.
Maya watched as Beau kicked off the ground to hover a few inches in the air, her expression was calculating instead of terrified for once. She nodded grimly and went back to staring at her hands before she exerted the tinyest amout of pressure possible to get her off the ground. Nothing happened. Maya sighed, come on you chicken, she thought to herself and kicked at the ground with annoyance this time. A startled yelp escaped her as she shot a few feet in the air above Beau. She stared down at him, her mahogany eyes wide and her whole body was tense. "Okay," Maya said her voice shaking slightly and she attempted to take deep calming breaths to calm her over excited heart, "this isn't so...bad." She bit her lip and forced her gaze to shift from Beau's comforting face, to the ground below. She was only about seven or eight feet above the grass, not quite enough to make her dizzy, but enough to make her shut her eyes for a moment.

Once he was up in the air Beau's previous thoughts of potentially being uncomfortable on the broom evaporated. He actually felt at ease as he looked down upon Maya, giving a small smile in hopes that she would be able to calm down a little. She acted cool on the surface, sure, but he was guessing that inside she wasn't doing so well. The Hufflepuff boy gently pressured the broom to move forward, and luckily he did because right as he moved he saw Maya speeding upwards.
He didn't have much time to react, and a few seconds rolled by before he realized that he should have tried to stop her from zooming ahead or something. " You know... you look particularly tall from this angle. " His words were filled with joking and light hearted meaning as he gently eased up on the broom and allowed himself to move up so he was just about at her level. Once he was close enough he looked her over, making sure she wasn't too shaken up by her sudden burst of speed. He let a couple seconds pass by before he suggested continuing. " Okay... want to try a little more? "

Maya's arms were riged with tension but she was able to give Beau a weak smile as she tried to find her voice. She kept her gaze locked on his face as he glided up to her height, so she wouldn't be tempted to look below again. She wasn't sure if not looked down defeated the whole purpose of the little exercise, but Maya wasn't sure if she really wanted to test her limits when she was more than three feet off the ground.
A slightly high pitched peil of laughter bubbled from her lips at Beau's joking tone and her tense muscles relaxed slightly. She straightened up slightly from her terrified hunched over posture and a smile flickered across her lips. "Yeah," she said a mischivious glint in her bright mahogany eyes. Maya tilted her broom slightly upward and urged it forward so that she looped up and around Beau before she lurched to a stop a good ten feet above him.
Maya let out the breath she had been holding and leaned over to grin down at Beau. "I could get used to being tall," she called. She focused on her friend below instead of the green grass below him. Maya was slightly surprised that she was beginning to feel at ease on her tiny broomstick, as long as she didn't think about the very hard earth below and instead concentrated on the thrill of defying gravity.

Balancing a little haphazardly on the broomstick Beau rolled up the sleeves of his flannel shirt, making sure the sleeves were up to his elbows so he could hold on to the broom properly. Once he was situated he regripped the broom, urging it forward a bit. He had kind of forgotten how absolutely free flying felt. It was definitely worth doing again. A grin enveloped the boy's lips and he couldn't help but feel really alive. He chuckled along with Maya's laughter, finding her cute.
Beau turned his head, his eyes following Maya as she flew around him and moved up, again giving herself the upperhand. He let out a small laugh, a smile still holding as he responded. " Oh, well. You look good tall. It suits you. " Beau turned his head slightly to the side, deciding he might as well do something interesting as well.
He leaned low against the broom, making himself small. Or as small as a person as big as him could get. The Huffle lad urged the broom faster, travelling somewhat down towards the ground and gaining speed. He turned back to glance up at Maya, seeing if she had caught his invitation to race. If she didn't it was alright, but there was nothing more fun than a good ole healthy competition.

Maya's heart thudded awkwardly off beat as Beau flashed his dazzling smile up at her, leaving her slightly breathless in response. Her lips tugged into a crooked grin at his joking complament, but a wary frown creased her forhead as she noted the glint of mischif in his sparkling blue-green eyes. Her happy, gleeful expression turned to one of horror as she saw Beau drop like an arrow loosed from a bow, aiming for the grass below. Her heart was frozen as she gasped, but the inviting look Beau flashed over his shoulder at her thawed it slightly as she started to understand that he was goading her into a race.
Maya always knew she had the build for a seeker, but she had been too terrified of the thought of being so far off the ground the thought had hardly ever crossed her mind. Now it did. She knew she had the advantage of being much smaller and lighter than Beau and she thought she could catch up to him if she had the nerve to point her broomstick toward the ground. With a nervous chuckled, Maya leaned low over her broom, much like she would a horses neck when galloping, and shot froward with such volocity that it startled a yelp from her.
The wind was roaring in her ears and it swept her tangle of auburn bangs out of her eyes. She caught sight of Beau, and even though he had a good headstart on her, Maya was gaining fast. Her voice rang out in high bell like laughter as she as wonder, excitment and terror rushed though her body all at once. She leveled her broom when she reached Beau's level and hunched lower over her handle as she sped up along side him. Maya was only a few feet away from him and she figured if she reached out she could probably touch his shoulder, or his wind swept curly brown hair, but Maya was too worried about colliding to get any closer to her companion.
Maya's auburn eyes flashed to Beau's face then and she grinned in obvious glee. She was happy that Beau had convinced her to try flying because the freedom she now felt, rivled the freedom she felt when she was in her saddle.

If Beau was into sports he would definitely pick quidditch. He loved the occasional game and would definitely help out if the house team was in dire need of a player or two, but he would prefer to spend his time playing guitar or hanging out with friends. Flying, though, was awesome. It felt great to have his hair being whipped around his face, to have the wind making him feel cold yet awesomely alive. It was a splendid feeling, and there was really no doubt about that in the boy's mind.
The Hufflepuff boy grinned wickedly to himself as he urged the broom faster. " C'mon, c'mon! " He muttered, looking down at the broom and wishing it would move quicker. Beau turned his head to the left, just now noticing that Maya was catching up to him and fast. " Woah! " He shouted at her with another laugh, now having more incentive to get the broom moving.
She was now about even with him and Beau took his eyes away from his intended destination long enough to lookg over and catch the Hufflepuff girl's gaze with his own. His cheeks dimpled slightly with a grin, happy and free.

Maya had noted the change in Beau's demeanor since the moment he had left the ground. The first time she had met him up on the tower, he had been calm and relaxed with his guitar in hand and that attitude seemed to suit him. But now, as Maya watched her friend wheeling through the cool October air, Maya he almost seemed to be radiating liberty. Maya wasn't really sure what to think of this change in personality, but at the same time she was happy for him and she was even feeding off of his jubilant emotions.
Something glittered below her on the ground and before Maya could stop herself, she looked. She found herself looking at her shimmering shadow on the dark, smooth lake so far below and her breath hitched in her throat. Suddenly, a small feathery object whizzed through the air right beside her face and Maya jerked instinctively away from it. With a gasp of surprise, Maya found herself falling through empty air, looking up at her riderless broomstick, dark against the bright blue sky.
All of the breath left Maya's lungs in a whoosh as her tiny, fully clothed body splashed into the water below. The icy quality of the liquid that now enveloped her shocked Maya, but she was a strong swimmer, even with her clothes weighing her down, and she knew that panicking wouldn't do her any favors at the moment. She kicked off her old beloved boots that were trying to drag her down, with only a small inward sigh of regret and pushed herself toward the bright surface above. Maya's head broke the surface and she her aching lungs gasped for the air that they had been deprived of.
Maya spluttered and coughed up the foul tasting lake water as she crawled out of the lake and on to the grass. The chilly air stung her wet cheeks and was making it difficult for her to focus on breathing as her whole body was trembling with cold. She sat there shivering as she heard startled shouts around her. What a way to ruin a date... Maya thought thought bitterly, too cold at the moment realize that she had thought the word 'date'.

Beau glanced away from Maya, still determined to win this race. At least he wanted to pretend to win, and then let Maya pull ahead of him. Wasn't that how it was supposed to go, the guy always letting the girl win? Even if it hadn't been how things went he probably would have done it anyway. And then there was always the fact that Maya could have beaten him on her own without him giving her any advantage at all. He continued flying, occasionally grinning back at Maya, feeling great. It was a wonder he didn't fly more often.
The Hufflepuff pointed the broom slightly downwards, allowing him to head towards the earth while still gainging speed. He looked back to see if Maya had mimicked his actions to see empty air behind him. At first he was confused, wondering if she had disappeared just to make him laugh. He looked all around, higher in the air to see if she had bypassed him that way, and on both sides as well.
Finally though he looked down to see splashing in the lake. His eyes widened as he turned completely around and headed towards the lake's edge, his entire body pressed to the broomstick so it would go faster. Without even bothering to slow down Beau jumped off of the broomstick and onto the grass next to where the girl lay. " Maya? Maya? " He didn't really know what to do in a situation such as this, but he did figure she must be really really cold. In a quick motion Beau unbuttoned his flannel shirt and lay it over her, leaving him dressed in just his jeans and a white tshirt. ' Inside you dolt, inside. ' He nodded to agree with his own thoughts, knowing that warmth was probably a good idea for her right now. " Hold on, we're going to go inside... " Now the question of how to get her inside. She must be freezing, so walking would be difficult. The solution seemed obvious after Beau decided that particular thought to be true.
" Alrigh', I'm going... to pick you up. Sound okay? " He asked to be polite, but he lifted the small girl into his arms, cradling her against his chest.
