The deserted hall was lined with portraits but only the portrait at the end was what Matthew had on his mind. For behind the portrait if the bowl of fruit was the kitchens, just bustling with house elves ready to cook to your hearts desire. It was late and Matthew could not sleep so he figured a trip to the kitchens would help.
Making his way down the dimly lit hall he smiled to himself as he heard some of the remarks the paintings made about him nightly wanderings. "You should be in your bed young man. Or at least in your dormitories." said one of the women from a nearby painting. Matthew just smirked. "I do as I please old woman." he said. The lady just huffed and turned in her chair.
Matthew continued on until he reached the large painting marking the entrance to the kitchens. Raising a hand he gently tickled the pear and watched as it giggle. There was a small barely audible click and then the large painting swung open.
The moment Matthew stepped through his nose was assaulted with the most wonderful smells. House elves were running about here and there preparing foods for breakfast the next day. One elf broke proceedings once it noticed Matthew standing there. It came to stand before him and introduced herself as Tibby.
"What can Tibby be doing for the young Master?" she asked Matthew while making a short bow to the boy.
"Yes, I require some tea if you would, please." he said quietly. Tibby nodded and led him to a table. "Sit here Master and I will get you some tea. Would you like some cookies as well young mister.?" "Yes, thank you." he said shortly.
Taking a seat he made himself comfortable while he waited for his tea and cookies. The different smells caressed his nosed as they floated by gently through the air. He could smell distinct scents of pies cakes and many other delicious treats. It was somewhat stress relieving. Sitting there ion the kitchens watching the house elves do there jobs happily.
"Here you go Master. Tea and cookies as you requested." said the small elf placing the tray on the table. "Thank you. You may go." Matthew responded softly. Sitting up straight up at the table he turned to fixing up his tea. Once everything was to his liking he took a small drink of his tea.
He heard the soft click of the portrait swing open once more signaling that someone else had entered the kitchens. Only when he felt there presence right behind him did he look. "Hello." he said softly.
