[ Full Character Name: ]Deaf Laurence Crevice
[ Character Gender: ] Male
[ Country of Citizenship: ] U.K.
[ Physical Character Description: ] Deaf’s a pretty average looking kid. Average height, light blue eyes, blond hair, just another face in the crowd. Of course there is the smug look he is hardly ever able to wipe from his face and his grin is full of sly mischievous laughter.
So now that we aren’t looking just at faces Deaf actually does stand out from the crowd a bit. Just the way he moves sets him apart, full of restrained energy and excitement, all movements graceful and fluid and masking the movement of another part, and happy – there is no other way to say it, he just looks happy when he moves. He stands tall and looks you in the eye, not proud but not shameful either.
His eyes are very expressive. They eyes sparkle when he is excited and dance when he’s happy but they also give away his emotions when they aren’t so happy but don’t have any analogies his write can think of at the moment. The only thing that he can keep from them is when he is lying and that is simply from years and years of practice.
[ Personality Character Description: ]He is…eccentric. A natural showman who loves to display what talent he has. He’s sneaky, secretive, and loves to solve mysteries. Any question must not go unanswered and he has always burned with curiosity. Of course this curiosity has gotten him in trouble many times.
He is annoyingly optimistic and he loves to cheer people up. He’ll always help you unless he has something more important that needs to be done. He confesses to his mistakes if they are charged against him but he will certainly never tell them. He can keep a secrete, of course he has to, he’s a magician. He loves to tell stories and they are all true because he isn’t very good at making them up.
He’s irrational when angry and angry when he’s upset. He is actually a bit proud and if you are able to wound his pride he takes it very personally and will mostly likely not like you for a very long time. He does hold a grudge until he has reason not to. He’s a bit of a suck-up. Hates playing quidditch but doesn’t mind watching it. Scared of snakes and large moths.
An interesting fact about Deaf is that he thinks that he was born into the wrong family. He’s never really fit in anywhere and or with anybody, he’s got a weird sort of accent – a mix somewhere between Texan and English (an odd combination indeed), but here’s the thing, he’s never visited or met anybody from Texas –, and of course there is the fact that he’s just plain weird. So he has lived his entire life as if he might suddenly return to his proper one at any moment, and since he does not know what his proper life will be like he really lives.
[ History: ] Laurence and Marisa Crevice, married twice. Once in the fall at ages 18 and 17 and once again the muggle way in the spring at ages 19 and 18. Laurence was from a respectable wizard family that was up until now pureblood but only by coincidence and Marisa from a middle class muggle family, hence the two different marriages – one muggle, one wizard.
When they were 21 and 20 Deaf was born. Laurence was an auror and Marisa a writer, so they were well off and lived in both magic and muggle ways. But when Deaf was five Laurence died on the job. Stricken with grief Marisa sold the house and she and Deaf lived abroad for a while. Five years, in fact, living in remote parts of the world, often in poverty and hunger and Marisa documented it all and then wrote books, both fiction and nonfiction on their adventures. Of course they did return to the U.K. long enough for Marisa to publish her books or when one of them needed medical attention, during these times they lived with Marisa’s parents.
Growing up Marisa home schooled Deaf and he learned different things growing up. Of course he learned spelling, math, history, and science but to a lesser extent than most children who would have gone to school. Instead his schooling focused more on things that his mother thought would be useful. And magic. Deaf has always been obsessed with magic. Not spells and the sort that is taught at Hogwarts but the muggle kind with card tricks, escapes, and making things disappear. Of course he always had been aware of his real magical skills and this only encouraged and helped him in doing his magical.
Finally when Deaf was ten they returned to England for good. See his mother by this time had become quite rich and her thirst for adventure had finally been quenched. So they bought a house by the coast. They lived there, Deaf still on home school, for a bit over a year and then Deaf received his letter to Hogwarts.
His mother had never told him about this little fact about his father so it was very surprising but not a complete shock considering he already thought of himself as a wizard. So he went to Hogwarts full of excitement and has been attending ever since.
[ Pros and Cons : ] Deaf is good natured, not much more to say on that. He’s just a friendly guy. He is a very powerful wizard…but he isn’t that good at magic yet being only a 1st year, he’ll be strong when he has a few more years of learning. And he is rather level headed.
On the other hand he is pretty weird, one example being he regularly practices muggle magic tricks. He doesn’t really take things seriously, like all of life is a joke. But if you do catch him in a serious mood he is quite a different person. And he sucks at quidditch, he can barely stay on a hovering broom let alone zip through the air playing with balls.
[Role Playing Example:] Deaf walked mindlessly around the courtyard, not looking for anything or doing anything, just killing time. So it was because of his boredom that he first saw her. A girl was sitting by herself on a bench with her head in her hands. She looked quite sad so he changed his course and picked a few flowers as he walked. By the time he reached her they were hidden away. He sat down next to her, smiled when she looked up, and said, “Hey, I’m Deaf Crevice. I was just walking by and I saw you had something in your hair.” He reached up as if to pull something from the side of her head and produced the flowers from his sleeve. “Very pretty, but doesn’t really belong in your hair.” He said with an encouraging grin as he held out his the small bundle of flowers for her to take if she wished.
