As the house elves returned with the pans, Drew threw the cut pineapple into the casserole dish, letting the juice cover the bottom.
"Flour, sugar, salt, butter, eggs..." Drew rattled off and as his house elf helpers brought each ingredient, the Ravenclaw threw some haphazardly measured amounts into a couple of mixing bowls.
As he mixed his batter, he took a moment to crane his neck in the direction of the others in the room, wondering what they were creating.

There'd been a few times Felicity had cooked with Drew, and while she thought they made a pretty good pair, there was no reason to not reach out and expand on horizons. After all, she enjoyed spending time with Alexander, he was fun, quirky, and interesting. There were still a number of things she had yet to figure out pertaining to the Hufflepuff. He was there for her after her brother's accident, and he was there for her now. It felt like he'd always been there and would always be there. And while she'd known him for a very long time, she still didn't fully understand him.
"Yes..." Felicity answered with a slight smile. "That's how we're deciding on the winner. Everyone eats a little of everything that's made, and we decide which was the best dish with a vote. Or at least...that's how I was thinking it was planned." Of course, if someone was allergic to something then they'd figure something out. All plans went haywire somehow, it was natural.
"So, what do you think? Something from a recipe, or off the top of our heads?" There were a number of things she could think to make, things that she thought even Alexander would make. "Because we want to get started." Starting to slice the pineapple open, she kept her light brown eyes downwards to make sure she didn't slip with the knife. All they needed was an accident.

"Wait...so every dish we have to eat?" His stomach turned and his skin began to hive up at just the thought. Or at least that was how Alexander felt as he held himself on the counter he stood next to. That was not what he thought this was about, however, with the invite he had gotten, Alexander never really thought of what the cook off was. "I'm not so sure..." he started to say, but then looked up at Felicity and stopped himself. He knew this would just break her heart if he said he couldn't, and left...especially without any explanation. He couldn't do that to Felicity, almost as much as he found he couldn't lie to Seanna.
Sighing, Alexander stood up straight and looked at his pineapple. "What about a fruit casserole?" he asked her. "You know...the kind with whip cream and....wait...we can use anything right?" Alexander said with a smirk that tried to look sly. "I have an idea..."

"Well, that's the idea I believe," Felicity answered her friend. "That's how we're to decide on the winner. I mean, we can't just look at a dish and say 'ooohhh pretty' because it might not taste good. And this isn't a presenters thing, it's for the cooking itself. Of course, some amount of presentation is needed, but not a whole lot."
At first Felicity thought one of her best friends was going to leave. Alexander was quite strange at times, she would admit, but it sounded like he was going to back out of it. He didn't have to eat things, she knew how picky he was, but he could still help cook and create, couldn't he? She certainly thought so.
And then he seemed to change his mind and his air. He wasn't leaving her, and relief spilled out over her face.
"We could," she answered with a huge smile. A fruit salad of sorts would be the easiest to make, and certainly couldn't turn out badly, could it? "Yes, anything. As long as the House Elves can provide it, they offered to let us have it." Steak, beans, sauces, anything. "What do you have in mind?"

"Well," Alexander's skin crawled as he thought about having to eat everyone's foods but he tried to push it to the side. He wasn't going to eat anything. Refused. He'd blame it on allergies or something; whatever would work to get him out of eating anything that would irritate his skin. He wouldn't do it. Smiling, however, he'd put on a good show. For Felicity, if not for anything else. She had chosen to work with him, any how. He might as well be cooperative, slightly.
"Well, ya know..." he said shrugging. "All sorts of fruit like grapes, and melon, and stuff....along with throwing in some whipped cream...." he shrugged, not really knowing what he was doing but knowing that his mother made some of the best fruit salade ever. When he used to eat sweets, that used to be his favorite. "Mum makes a great salade..." Alexander said, almost sadly. He missed being home...always did when he was away at school.

"A regular Mrs. Cronon fruit salad?" Felicity asked him with a slight smile. She made it often for them while camping, it was an American fruit salad as her dad called it. He preferred just some fruit tossed into a bowl, that was a fruit salad in his opinion, but her mum often reminded him that Mrs. Cronon was also American, they did things different. However, she had to admit, it was awfully good and so were a number of other American dishes.
"Yes, she makes a wonderful salad," Felicity whole-heartedly agreed. "I've never had a fruit salad quite like hers. I mean, you and I haven't even ever made one before." And that was rather surprising, but she always figured it was because Alexander didn't eat it. How the Hufflepuff knew it was a good salad bewildered Felicity, she hadn't ever seen him eat it before. Though, he had to have tried before, it was an amazing dish. "So, grapes, pineapple, cherries, bananas, apple slices, muskmelon, honeydew, and cantaloupe?"
Felicity thought that was what Mrs. Cronon used, but she could be wrong.

With her pineapple cut, Arianna saw that she had enough to make what she wanted. Half could go to the main course while the rest when to the drink she wanted to create. Perhaps some would think her creation a bit interesting, but Arianna thought it sounded rather good. She wasn't one to not try a food out at least once. Sometimes she had to close her eyes and plug her nose to eat some of the things she's tried, and sometimes she never wanted to touch that particular food ever again, but at least she could give a decent reason as to why she wouldn't eat it besides "It doesn't look/sound/smell right".
Right now Arianna was having a go at pineapple and pork. With cinnamon. With the pineapple cut, she was now cooking the pork in a pan over one of the stoves. She let it brown as she got everything else ready. Arianna wasn't exactly sure what to put in it, but she was good at mixing this and that until it tasted just right. Her only problem right now was her knee, which was still hurting. She didn't think she had wacked it that hard, but it was saying otherwise whenever she had to move out of someone's way or walk from table to stove as she checked on her pork and mixed her other ingredients. Her limp was hardly noticeable, but someone might see that she was doing so ever so slightly.

From what Drew could see, there were some interesting concoctions going on... and a few not so interesting ones. He wasn't sure what category his own creations would fall in, but had a feeling that he had one of each. Pineapple upside-down cake wasn't any culinary feat, but his pineapple-ginger chicken could either be a huge success, or send everyone to the Hospital wing. Only time would tell.
placing the cut pinapple aside, he greased the bottom of the cake pan, put down a hefty layer of brown sugar and pecans, and added a layer of pineapple before pouring the cake batter over it. Satisfied with his first dish, he handed it off to the small sous-chefs to place in the oven. While they did that, he would start on figuring out what to do with the chicken.

As her pork sizzled in the pan, Arianna sidled up next to Drew, careful not to bump into anything and keeping an eye on her food in case anyone tried to do anything with it or a fire suddenly broke out. Either one could have bad conciquences.
"Hey....think you'll have any pineapple left over?" Arianna asked. She wanted to make a drink, just in case anyone needed something to wash down the tast of a failed creation (hopefully not hers). Arianna thought she'd had enough to give everyone a small sip, but if someone was willing to donate, there'd be actual drinks for the whole lot. "We could find some coconut and some ice and gather up whatever pineapple the others don't use..."

Drew heard a voice at his shoulder and looked over. "Yeah, I think so," he answered, grinning at her. He hadn't needed a whole pineapple for his cake, and he really didn't think he'd need the whole other one for his chicken. He placed a thin layer of butter on the bottom of his baking dish, followed by a decent amount of pineapple juice. He then started placing the cut up chicken pieces in.
"It also looks like we might have a few extras," he told her, looking over at the box. It seemed like a number of people either paired or didn't use as much of the fruit as they had originally thought.
