The great cook-off challenge had actually been Felicity's brain-child this time around, but Drew had promised to help her put things together. It was his job to make sure he could snag the kitchens, set the room up appropriately, and make sure the House elves stayed out of the way.
Setting up the room was the easy part. Most of what they needed was already there, but Drew had procured a large shipment of the secret ingredient, which was now sitting off to the side, attracting the house elves like bees to honey.
It was the small domestic creatures that were going to throw a wrench into the plans. They naturally had the need to help and while a hand or two might be appreciated, they really didn't want the elves to take over.
"Okay you guys, just helping with chopping and cleaning and stuff, please?" Drew pleaded, to which the house elves agreed with wide eyed innocence. Drew knew better. They'd be sticking their hands in as much as possible, but what could be done short of elf-abuse? "Seriously. We want to do it ourselves, okay?"
Again the elves agreed enthusiastically, and Drew sighed, pretty much giving up, seeing as they were already setting out cooking trays and mixing bowls. There really wasn't anything else left to do other than wait for the rest of the contestants to show up.

An invite....to a cook off? Arianna was surprised to find herself with an invitation to anything. She didn't get many of those...or maybe she did and was just too busy to notice or remember.... This one caught her eye, though. She remembered doing this with Drew on at least one occasion. They didn't get to do much of anything together anymore, what with classes and homework, both of which Arianna constantly stressed about lately, and...whatever else was going on in their lives. She had found herself, amazingly, with some time today and decided to come on down.
Stepping into the kitchens, Arianna glanced around. She hadn't yet given up wearing that silly green cloak completely, but at least she now wore the hood down and had fixed it to fit her better. Sometimes she dared not to wear it at all, but today she had pulled it on before leaving the common room. Mostly because she felt a bit chilly today.
"Hey," the girl moved to the tables and greeted Drew, her eyes on the goods in front of him held a sudden glazed look to them. "Remember when we did this? What were we trying to cook? I can't quite recall..."

Es was suprised to say the least when she had received the invitation for a cook-off. She hadn't hung out with anyone lately and felt somewhat out of the loop, so it was a shock when she opened up the note, promising fun and food. Nonetheless, it was definitely an interesting idea. It sounded exciting and different and not something anyone would ever think up. Well, obviously someone had, cause it was happening.
But what to wear to a cook-off? Seriously.. What did you wear? She had no idea, so she went with the safe look of some black fitting pants and a green T-shirt that looked nice against her pale skin and black hair. Es headed down there at the appointed time and was somewhat astonished that she was one of the first there. Although the kitchen seemed crowded with wide-eyed, anxious elves, the only other two people there were Drew and Arianna. She smiled at them.
"Hey guys, uh..what's up?"
What's up? That's all you could think of? Pathetic...pathetic...pathetic.. She reprimanded herself. Before, she hadn't really thought about the whole 'cooking part,' but now that she was down here, the unexpected thought came to mind that she was actually a good cook. Infact, she had taught Nic how to cook with his wand, so this should be easy as cake, right? Her blue eyes flicked to Ari at the thought of Nic, and his longtime absence. He was one of my best friends.. She thought sadly, before focusing on the project at hand.

"I think we were trying to use rice krispies and salmon in the same recipie," Drew answered, remembering that he had considered stuffing the fish with the cereal... or poasibly breading it... he wasn't sure. He hopped up onto one of the counters, an action his mother would never tolerate in her own kitchen, and grinned as another person entered.
"Hey, Esmerelda," Drew greeted the Slytherin. He didn't know her too well, but they had a few classes together. It would be kind of neat to see how many people actually showed up.

A cook-off? That was something you didn't get to see everyday, especially at Hogwart's. But he welcomed the somewhat random invitation and decided to go for it. Why not? It was something to do, plus it did sound kind of fun. Guy wasn't really sure what the whole thing about, but he decided to check it out.
As Guy entered the kitchens via portrait of the fruit bowl, he cast a quick glance around the room. So far there were only three others there. Maybe that was it? From the amount of food and supplies that had been set out on the tables, he was beginning to think that there would be more people joining them. Truth be told, Guy liked to cook. He wasn't too sure of his ability to cook, but he did enjoy it. He had learned from his father who also liked to cook, and when he had to take care of his siblings he had to cook for them a lot as well. " Hi, all. " He greeted, recognizing all of the people but not remembering if he actually knew them or not.

Charlie never had the talents like her father to grab a whisk and create something tasty from scratch. Grilled cheese was almost a hazard to her sometimes. Not to say she was horrible at cooking, but it came down to the same concept as studying-- she was no good until she actually tried or focused. If she had interests like her father to cook up something, she probably would have done well, but sometimes she added too much of that or cooked this much too long. Cooking was a practice in the virtue of patience. Does Charlie even know that word?
Beforehand in the dorms, she had an idea to bring some practical recipes that her dad had wanted her to try out, but in the end she abandoned them, hoping to abandon the small feelings of despair over the reminders of her family. The situation was still as shaky as before, and remembering her family didn't make her feel any better. Instead, she took herself and her instincts-- a deadly mix, but useful nonetheless, if used right.
As soon as she could get into the kitchens, she tried to switch out her roles quickly. "Can't I just be a judge? You'll need some good taste buds, and I've got them."

"I don't mind if Charlie judges." Hiro joked as he caught the tail end of the conversation. Dating a judge wouldn't hurt the blind chef's chances of winning. Not that he needed that, Hiro was confident in his skill and, as far as he knew, had the most experience cooking of those present.
He walked in with a smile, rarely had he the chance to cook for others except as a form of apology to get rid of bad karma. This time however he couldn't think of anything that might have given him a bad mark and was enjoying the challenge for what it was; a fun gathering for people who shared an interest. This was going to be fun.

With a box big enough that she could barely see over the top of it, Felicity made her way down the stairs from the Gryffindor Towers. There wasn't much inside the box, but she liked big boxes and therefore the prize for the winner of their cook-off, as well as prizes for participants, were located inside the box she had to walk down flights of stairs with, jump that missing step with, trip over her untied shoelace with, and hardly be able to tickle the pear with.
It was a big box.
The cook-off had been finally planned, organized (somewhat), and was ready to take off. Her original idea had been to do it for Hiro, had been since she'd met him during the summer months, but after the fiasco she'd made of Hiro and Charlie's birthday, she hoped both would forgive her enough to participate and let her use this to maybe get back on track with them. Ruining their party hadn't been a part of her plans.
When the portrait opened, revealing the kitchens within, Felicity trudged in, hearing a few voices, but not being able to see any faces. Some sounded familiar, others not quite so much. With a box in front of her face, she wasn't entirely sure where she was going, other than she could feel the sudden stops when she ran into someone or something on accident. Whatever it was, it was solid and she apologized each time, but she really didn't think any people were in her way as whatever was on the other side of the box seemed more solid.
At least it did until she ran into what she was sure was a person.
"Sorry!" she called out from behind the other side of the thing. Maybe big boxes weren't all the great after all.

Another sixth year that he knew mostly by sight from classes joined them, followed closely by Hiro and Charlie. The room was filling quickly and still no sign of the official hostess to the party. Drew was just about to start on a spiel about the weather when the door opened once more, revealing a large box being held up by a great pair of legs.
Drew jumped up and went to help Felicity as she tried to maneuver her way through the kitchen. "S'okay," he told her as he took the box from her arms. "I got it." It was probably easier for him to see around it anyway.

"Oh, yeah....it was an....odd combination...." Arianna thought back to the little rice krispies and fish combination....she didn't think it was all that long ago, but she couldn't remember if the food at tasted any good or not. She was distracted by the arrival of others and gave a little wave as Es came in. Arianna had talked to her in a long while....
As the others settled in, Arianna was about to suggest trying the fish/rice krispies again so she could remember how it tasted, but a sudden bump made her say, "Ow!" instead. It wasn't that she was hit hard, but corners weren't any fun. Especially when they hit sensitive areas.
Rubbing her bottom, Arianna scrambled out of the way of the box only to find herself tripping over a shoe lace. She was lucky enough to hit another corner, this time her knee smacking the corner of a bench. It smarted, but Arianna pulled herself onto the bench, eyes closed as she held a hand over her knee. She hoped no one saw. Stupid shoe laces.

Hearing the commotion from the other side of the large cardboard box, Felicity was glad to hand it over to Drew. While she couldn't see him because she couldn't see over or around the thing, she knew his voice well enough by now and heard another familiar voice complaining with ouches. All right, big boxes when she couldn't see were not good ideas.
With the box out of her hands, she turned her eyes to the general direction where she'd heard the voice from and saw Arianna sitting down. It would be her luck to hurt the girl. She knew she'd run into something or other, but she really had hoped it wasn't a person.
"I'm sorry Arianna," she apologized, not sure how she'd managed to hit the girl's knee. Of course, with a box that big and no sight, she figured it was more than possible. "I didn't mean to run into you, I just couldn't see very well."

It was a good thing that Hiro's ears were so keen, since he was the closest to the entrance he would have been the first to be plowed over by the next arrival. Fortunately the laughing picture gave hint of another member of the party and Hiro side stepped out of the way just in time. He gathered that whatever she was carrying was very large and he was about to offer his assistance when Drew beat him to the punch. Instead he offered his help elsewhere...
"Are you ok Ari?" He asked when it sounded like his fellow Raven was the one to take the hit he avoided.

A blond lock of hair was the only visual sign of someone in the halls he saw as he walked towards the kitchens, a hand in his pocket, and the other swinging at his side. The blond locks, and voices that echoing down the halls that was. His pulse quickened a bit as social opportunities weren’t his thing, but then again, the invitation had come from Miss Hjort herself. If his parents’ found out that he skipped out on Ib Hjort’s daughter…well, he’d get a lecture on manners for sure.
Alexander didn’t see what happened with Felicity or the box that she was carrying, nor did he see what happened to Arianna or anything else. He just walked in right after all of the commotion, a small smile on his face, nodding his head at those he knew, and even those he didn’t. “Good day, everyone…” sending a wink in the young Miss Hjort’s direction his smile grew a bit bigger. “Felicity,” he nodded his head. Alexander looked around to take in all of whom had been invited, secretly hoping Krissy would be there as well. At that time, she wasn’t…maybe she’d show up a little later.
Back to the cooking aspect of the event, however, cooking wasn’t his thing, especially since Alexander found himself to be extremely picky about what he ate. It seemed if there was something he could find wrong with a food, or something that could affect his skin, he wouldn’t eat it. So, why then bother cooking it? But that was not the point of attending the event, not really.
“So, what’s cooking?” Alexander grinned at his horrible pun, but heck…someone had to lighten the mood; even if Alexander wasn’t sure what the mood at that moment was in the room.

When the portrait behind her opened to allow entrance to yet another, Felicity turned and a smile lit up her features immediately. The Hufflepuff was definitely one of her favourite people, and she hadn't had a good chance to spend time with him lately. However, she was glad to know he was accepting her invitation she'd sent to him. A part of her had worried he wouldn't show. No matter how long she'd known him, she had always thought he was really strange, but it didn't bother her, just worried her sometimes.
"Hi Alexander!" she greeted the boy, turning her full attention to him. Drew had the box now, Hiro was talking to Arianna as well, so she decided to talk to the Hufflepuff sixth year. A quiet laugh to what he said and she was walking up to him and slipping her arm through his. And while she knew he was only joking, she had to state the obvious as usual. "Nothing yet, no one will know until we start."
Hopefully everyone would be making something different, and there were lots of Elves available to help out if needed, and she was sure, with as busy as they looked, they'd be more than willing to add a bit here and there.

{appologies if this post makes no sense.....}
"I'm okay," Arianna claimed, waving her free hand as though to brush off any concern the others had over her little injury. Which it would have been had she not already hurt it a few days before. Arianna still did not want anyone to know of her 'fun' out on the pitch. Good potions and makeup were a daily thing for her now and no one seemed the wiser. So far. Arianna was now thinking she would take it a little easier this week, though. At least until the bruises healed.
"I hope we're not making anything with apples.....or chocolate......" Arianna spoke in an effort to direct any straying attention to the box. She'd hardly touched either one in the last few months, though she wasn't quite sure why at first. Now she could remember trying to survive on the fruit and some cauldron cakes while everyone else was locked up in the Great Hall. It hadn't worked out too well.
