Homework was not something that Josh enjoyed doing, but he always seemed to get it done quickly. Classes were just classes and Josh had been good at school to begin with. He was such a nerd and sometimes he really didn't like it, but that was just the way Josh was. And now that the Hufflepuff had so much free time, he figured he'd spend it getting to know the castle better. His feet had carried him down a bunch of stairs and before he knew it, Josh found himself in an abandoned corridor in the middle of the dungeons. Standing in the middle of the hall, Josh looked up and down it, wondering which way to go.
The dungeons weren't exactly the best place for Josh to be. Being a new student, he was bound to run into a veteran student that wanted to pull some kind of trick on him. Looking around again, Josh thought he heard something coming from the end of the corridor. Curiosity got the better of him and he venture along to see what it is. "Is there someone there?" Josh called out.

"No one's here. Go away," said the voice in the know-it-all fashion. Charlie had been ready to get out of her Slytherin commons when she had run into some trouble. She had dozens of folders filled with school notes of the past. Why or how she had them was amazing to her-- she always thought they were the most useless things after the year past. And yet she had notes even dating back to third year when she came into Hogwarts, with uncertain scribbles and plain evidence that she didn't listen a lick what was being said ("Merlin had a disciple named Arnold.").
She had the plan to take them out to the elves so that they could really destroy them, but as she had made her way out, she had tripped on a raised stone and dropped everything in her hands, wand included. She almost started her string of cursings, when someone asked who was there, so she was more inclined to respond to that than her inner monologue.

The voice calling back startled Josh slightly, for he hadn't actually been expecting an answer. Had he simply listened a little longer, the stream of profanities that followed would have tipped off whoever it was that waited around the corner. The voice sounded like that of a girl, but it sounded rather irritated and the timid Hufflepuff wasn't sure if he should bother her. However, a single sheet of paper had fluttered out from around the corner, along with the sound of several others rustling. Josh continued his curious journey until he saw the pile of papers all over the dungeon floor. Quickly, Josh bent down and began rounding up the papers that girl had dropped, along with her wand. He handed that to her as well before looking up to see who she was. Odds were Josh didn't know her because...well...he didn't really know anyone.
"You dropped this too," Josh told the girl with a slight smile, holding her wand out for her to take.

Charlie bent down to start to pick up her fallen leaves of parchment, and when she noticed a second pair of hands shuffling for them, too, she made sure to get the most of them first before he did, almost in an unspoken contest. Then again she wasn't sure how keen she was on having people going through her notes-- especially the ones from fourth year with the horrible drawings of a flying Viktor Krum. Now that is embarrassing to look back on.
She looked up at her mess to spot a glance at the guy who had helped her. Hmm. Seemed like her age, but she hadn't seen him ever in her life. Taking her wand before, she nodded at him. "Don't think I've ever seen you before," she told him. The school was of a reasonable size, to tell you the truth. Charlie would have seen him eventually. But she had been rather out of it the last few months with Head Girl stuff that she barely paid attention to new transfers. "You new?"

"Yeah, I just transferred in," Josh explained to the girl when she asked if he was new, "I'm Josh. Josh York. Hufflepuff." He had chose Muggle clothes over his school robes that day so the Hufflepuff crest wasn't in plain view. Josh, as polite as ever, extended his hand to shake the girl's with a friendly smile playing on his lips.

"Welcome to Hogwarts," Charlie said, but rather stiffly. She didn't belong on the welcome wagon, that's for sure. But at least she made an effort, finding that there had to be a needed formality now that she was in charge of the student body, basically. While she might have cringed internally at the thought, she figured it was a responsibility worth her while-- the recruiters seemed to like that sort of well-rounded stuff.
"Thanks for the help," she added as she stood up with the rest of her papers. 'Bout time I really destroy this crap, she thought to herself. She honestly didn't want any of those things anymore. But it would be useless to dump them carelessly, seeing as they all had her name on there. "You're not lost, are ya?"

Obviously not a shaker. Josh lowered his hand as he stood up, still smirking at the girl. She welcomed him to the school, but sounded as though it didn't really matter. "Try not to sound so enthused about it," he joked playfully, his hands finding their way home, back into his pockets. Josh chuckled softly when she asked him if he was lost and the boy shook his head no. Truthfully, he wasn't lost. But on the other hand, he hadn't really known where he was going.
"No, not lost," Josh answered her casually, "Just sort of wandering, trying to get to know the castle."

Charlie stared at him for a moment, and then nodded. "Yep, you're gonna get lost," she shuffled her papers together, and as she was sure she had everything, she saw a little runaway parchment piece float away by the way of an unseen draft. No use in getting that back, she pointed her wand at it promptly, muttered two words, and a shot of magic hit the parchment, and it got engulfed in flames immediately, becoming nothing but ash before it hit the ground again. The thrill was small, but it suddenly sparked an idea, and it needed a partner.
"Hey, man, you know this spell?" She asked him, the idea brimming at the edge of her words.

Josh chuckled softly as the girl told him he was going to get lost. That seemed plausible but Josh had pretty good instincts about things and he didn't really want to get lost. If he had, he would probably keep wandering around until he found something that seemed familiar. However, Josh's thoughts of getting lost were quickly pushed from his mind when there was a tiny fire next to him.
"Setting things on fire?" Josh confirmed when asked if he knew the spell, "Yeah, I know it. Why?" He raised a curious eyebrow at the girl, who's name he still didn't know, but then glanced down at the papers in her hand. Looked like there was going to be a bon fire.

"Good," Charlie said in reply to his confirmation, even if it wasn't a real reply. She needed a partner in crime, and while she could have waited for one of her best friends, she needed a partner-in-crime right now. ASAP.
"You got time to spare, come on." She walked past him and kicked at the tiny pile of ash with her foot on the way. "I know a bigger part of the dungeons we can use so we're not in some small hallway."
In case there was any confusion, it could be clarified that Charlie was starting to get a bit of a yearning for some pyrotechnics. It had been such a while since she did anything out of the ordinary, and so it was important to her to do something absurd and possibly troublesome. That was the problem with being a Head Girl-- so much example and responsibility, that it was hard to remember who one really was and what they really wanted to do versus what looked good. Charlie was determined to be a Head Girl incapable of kissing school administration butt.
