If there was one thing that Ellie wished she was more talented with it would have been music. Sure she could play ' Mary had a little lamb ' on piano, but she didn't understand or know music like her brother did. She envied him for that and wished to learn more about the seemingly magical subject.
It was primarily for these reasons that the young woman found herself down in the dungeons in the first place. Being a member of Ravenclaw house she couldn't easily access the Hufflepuff commons, but after sending an owl in to fetch her brother Beau came stumbling out wide eye and bewildered looking. He had no idea why his sister would bug him after dinner, usually that was time to go to each one's own commons and unwind. The girl explained her somewhat random desire to learn more about music and asked for a favor.
Several minutes later Ellie found herself in the kitchens, a guitar propped against her leg and a book of chords in front of her. On her face she wore a look of determination and confusion, the latter of which she hardly ever donned willingly. She briefly glanced up to see an elf coming back with the dish of butterscotch pudding she had asked for. " Thank you, " she spoke the words with a smile and set the bowl on the small table in front of where she was sitting. Shifting slightly she attempted to get more comfortable, finding the acoustic guitar a bit large against her small frame. She rolled her eyes at herself and sighed, wondering if this was just a big joke. Music hadn't ever really been her thing, but it was nice to think about it.

Delilah hadn't had time to catch the regular supper because of her Head Girl duties, so she decided that the best thing to do in her time of need would be to head down to the kitchens. The elves there had been her friends in her younger years, back when she hated people, and refused to have friends of the human kind, she had been hurt too many times and didn't want friends. The present was a different story though, because she was quite friendly and happy to meet new people.
Delilah walked in quite loudly, more so because she was starving, and as she scarfed down a small bowl of pudding that was sitting happily atop a table, she looked up to see another female holding a guitar. Delilah smiled, face full of pudding, and swalled before speaking, "Hi!" She said, more in surprise than anything else. As Delilah though the situation through a bit more, she felt a little bit stupid, perhaps that wasn't her pudding to have? Delilah put the empty bowl down, she knelt down to whisper something in a near by elf's ear, and the elf went scampering off.
Delilah quickly stood up again, and smiled, "Sorry about that..." She said, her right cheek still with a bit of pudding on it, "I missed supper, sometimes I don't think before I eat." She said, taking a seat atop the table, looking at the girl trying to see if perhaps she did reckognize her. "Ellie right? I'm Delilah." She said, although she was sure that most students knew who she was because she was Head Girl and all. "Nice guitar, did I interupt something?" She said, only noticing now the sheet music lying across the table.

If only she could sing. El smiled wistfully at the thought, knowing that singing was yet another thing her brother was better at. She grew slightly disheartened and hugged the guitar to herself, thinking that if she tried hard enough she could make something out of this old guitar and her small hands. Small hands being part of the issue, she knew it would take some work. " Okay. I can do this. " So immersed in the attempt at a new attitude that she hardly noticed another being in the kitchens until she was spoken to.
" Oh, hi. " She greeted brightly after the initial shock wore off. She recognized the girl to be Delilah, a Slytherin and also the Head Girl. " No, it's okay... can't really blame you, " she mentioned after taking notice that the older girl had eaten her pudding. It was actually a bit comical of a scene.
" Pudding is afterall a main food group. " She joked in a lighthearted tone, giving a soft laugh after she spoke. " No, definitely not. It's actually my brother's. I made the mistake of thinking I could do something with it. " She lifted her shoulders up into a small shrug, thinking that eventually she could make some music. Maybe.

" Pudding is afterall a main food group. " Delilah laughed lightly when Ellie said this. She was glad that the girl was into her kind of humour. Afterall, people who were too serious didn't get along with Delilah too well, she wasn't a very serious kind of girl. At least she wasn't mad at the head girl for eating her pudding, although Delilah would have completely understood had she been angry. She would have.
Delilah looked at the guitar and smiled, looking back up at the younger girl. "You know, I know this is going to be a corny saying, and probably over used, but you can do whatever you set your mind to." She said, holding the crooked smile she had on her face. "My mum said I couldn't ever sing, but well, I proved her wrong." She said hoping that by sharing that little piece of information, Ellie would feel more confident about her own skills... Or rather, skills to be.

El thought she had recovered nicely from her surprise, she hadn't shouted anything or thrown something, both reactions being her first instinct. She chuckled under her breath, slightly humored by the idea of tossing a guitar at the head girl. The image was funny but she predicted a not so good ending if it should actually occur. Ellie tapped her fingers gently against the grainy wood, looking down at the old guitar as Delilah spoke of it. She could do anything she set her mind to, but it was just the whole process of trying again and again that would prove to be difficult. She was determined, no doubt, it was just going to be hard.
" Oh, well... I might sound a bit conceited in saying this but usually things come a bit easier for me, so it's difficult to adjust when this is actually... hard. " A small smile fit the girl's pale lips as she listened to the Slytherin's words. " So you sing? "

" Oh, well... I might sound a bit conceited in saying this but usually things come a bit easier for me, so it's difficult to adjust when this is actually... hard. " Delilah grinned and shook her head when Ellie said this. While she didn't think this younger girl was conceited, she did think it funny that the girl would assume life would come easily as apparently so many things had come to her before. Delilah also was a bit jealous of people who never found things difficult, perhaps that was why she hated studying so much. She could distinctly remembering all night for an exam and getting a C when some of the other Ravenclaw's in her year didn't even glance at it the night before and ended up getting A's. I guess you could say that would be a bit discouraging.
Although Delilah had thought of all this, not a whole lot of actual time had passed, and she Head Girl finally said, "Well, maybe learning something that doensn't come as easily will be a bit more rewarding for you, should you ever complete the task." Delilah was now wondering why she was still standing, after all she had been patrolling the castle and well, the castle wasn't exactly small. Delilah pulled out the stoll that was before her and sat down, placing her forearms on the table that Ellie was sitting on. She nodded in response to Ellie's question about her singing. "Yeah a little." She said, grinning, "hope I don't sound too conceited." She added, making just a bit of fun of her new friend.

Ellie wasn't sure how she sounded to the older girl. Her first thought was a bit immature, maybe, but she didn't think she would be percieved too badly. She was still slightly self conscious, she didn't know why, just that Delilah was older and obviously an important figure in the school. She was a good person to know, and in general El wasn't so keen on making a fool of herself.
She nodded her head, taking the words into consideration. " Maybe. I hope so... it should be, for all the trouble it's causing. " She gently plucked the high E string, knowing that while she was determined to do it and it would be rewarding, that it would also be difficult. Studying, however, school work and things such as that were easy. This, though, not so much. El chuckled softly as Delilah poked a bit of fun at her former words, shrugging her shoulders. " That's cool... a lot of people around here have musical talent, it's pretty remarkable. "

An elf walked by just then, holding up a platter of chocolate chip muffins, offering one to Delilah and she happily took one. Delilah pointed to the string El has just plucked and grinned, "Now that's a start." She said encouragingly, glad that Ellie wasn't upset that D was still sticking around. She needn't worry though, Delilah would probably be leaving soon, it just took her a while to realize when someone wanted privacy.
Delilah laughed at Ellie's last comment on how everyone in the school had some kind of musical talent, "Everyone but you eh?" She asked in an obviously joking manner. Delilah continued nibbling at her muffin, hoping not to make a pig of herself in front of someone she just met, they'd know soon enough that she ate like a hog. Delilah wasn't one to make a lot of fun of someone, but she liked to make sure that people she was just getting to know, knew that she was very sarcastic, and when she did make fun, she didn't mean any harm by it.
"Well I'll leave you to it then." She said, wiping her hands from the muffin crumbs that were too stubborn to move by themselves. Delilah stood up and smiled at El, "Nice meeting you, perhaps I'll run into you again soon." She said, assuming that Ellie would prefer privacy right now.
