Xander shrugged, "I don't know, and I'm not sure if they are still searching for her." he muttered, then he looked at Annemarie as she mentioned the twins. He smiled and nodded, "Yeah, twins. Both girls and both look like their mum, except that they have green eyes like their dad. In addition to being cute and charming, they are also little trouble makers" he said. He laughed at the memory of seeing his nieces, they were only 4 by then and just starting to be trouble makers.
Xander, you're doing what needs to be done. You have a job, you're keeping yourself strong for her...
Xander put his uninjured arm around her after she leaned on his chest, "I know, but sometimes it's too much for me to handle. Especially with students as arrogant as these" he said, remembering a few selected students that he didn't even want to think about right now.
I'm sure everything will be alright. This is what she would want you to be doing... keeping strong for your family and everything...
Xander nodded, "But...her twins and my brothers and my mom and dad and everyone. I should be there for them" he muttered, looking away from Annemarie.

Annemarie wondered why he took the job at Hogwarts if he felt his family needed him the most. It didn't make sense for her for him to start a whole new job at this time. Annemarie pushed off of him slightly, still feeling a bit awkward by being so close to him, and looked back up into his face. She understood the students a bit better than she had when she first got here, but not that much more than Xander did, but she had always contemplated the changes that seemed to have happened. "It's not an arrogance, Xander. For these children have nothing to be arrogant about," she whispered and sighed looking down at the ground. "They've had no help in the past few years with the Deva who constantly decide to pick on them and this school. Even before I arrived the Deva had been here... taken over...." she shook her head as she remembered her forth coming. It was difficult. None of the students even gave her any respect as a professor, let alone an elder of theirs.
Her head lifted, her eyes meeting with his, and she gave him a sympathetic smile. "They've lost faith in anything that is not their own kin.... they're own peers. It's worse than when we were in school when the Dark Lord was coming back.... ten times or more. These students have no hope for us.. the professors, for the prior unit they had had betrayed them. I've learned at least that much since I've been here." Annemarie's voice cracked a little as she felt for the students in the only way she knew how to, but really, she couldn't understand anything of what they had gone through; and that too, she knew.
"Xander, why did you come to Hogwarts if you found this stuff out about your family? You could have turned back... why didn't you?" Annemarie asked.

Xander nodded in understanding, ofcourse the years that they were in school were awful. Deaths here and there, and abductions here and there. Death eaters and werewolf bitten students, orphaned students. He remembered the time when he first heard his cousin was a werewolf, he didn't want to remember. Then there was the time that there was constant fear in everyone that they only hung our with their housemates, that started the stereotypes. "Yes, we had the worse of years. Deaths, abductions, orphans, werewolf bitten... You remember my cousin Simon right? Well...one of his big secrets was being a werewolf, when that dragon pox thing happened in my final year at school... He admitted." he said, looking at Annemarie. After hearing the story from Matty herself and then having it sort of repeated by Annemaire, made Xander really remember.
Xander, why did you come to Hogwarts if you found this stuff out about your family? You could have turned back... why didn't you?
Xander sighed and looked at Annemarie, "I wanted to, but they stopped me. Said that I would be able to help more if I was here, I'm the only one they turn to with having a decent job you know. Besides, they don't want me to help. They know how I can be sometimes" he said, smiling at Annemarie slightly.

"We thought we had the worst of years, Xander..." Annemarie said softly, not knowing exactly how big or who the Deva were but not liking them anymore than the years she escaped by going back and living in the muggle years. She may have escaped everything, but it didn't mean she didn't hear about it later on. As as she listened to both of these cases... the Deva almost seemed worse. "At least before, we could count on our adults..." She nodded, remembering Simon but saying nothing. That had been a shock to them all, and some even turned their back on the poor teen. It was sad, but Annemarie even feared Xander's cousine slightly... though, she'd never had said such a thing out loud. "How is Simon?" she asked, wondering if he too, now had a family and children.
Annemarie continued to look up at Xander and she could sense his defeat. He was as lost as she was as to where he was supposed to be, and yet, he wanted to be at Hogwarts even less than she. She knew his family would only accept so much help from him, but Annemarie still almost wished he had stayed away. She could see how just the prospect of being with his family made him happy, not to mention... the dangerous artifacts would not be here. Still that plagued her mind just slightly as she knew he could lose his job, or get hurt, or worse... hurt someone else. Was he asking to get fired? They know how I can be sometimes... A smirk played on the Muggle Studies Professor's lips as she played innocent as to whatever that statement could be.
"Whatever do you mean, Professor Griffiths?" she snorted lightly, trying not to laugh too loud. "You mean.... impatient, headstrong, a bit vulgar at times..." backing off from him, she looked around, the smirk on her face formed completely as she went back and sat on the arm of the chair again, continuously keeping her eyes on the History of Magic Professor. "... determined... " she whispered. "..brave.. and a bit rash anymore. Tell me, blue bird..." she jested. "Are you sure you didn't switch houses on me? I'm not sure I like lions any better..." she laughed and couldn't believe herself, but at the same time the thirty two year old was exploring a bit of fun that she hadn't since she was a teen... Immature all of it, but if no one saw her, then no one would believe it happened and she could keep her reputation.
After all, who'd believe Xander? Really...

Xander snorted, "We didn't always, you have to remember that it was me who saved Eric. It was me who talked Mike out of his anger, but eventually got him to be my enemy. It was me who watched Alyson go insane and so did austin. It was me who got you out of your situation of loneliness, and so on and so forth. The teachers were only there to fight the death eaters, but they were never there to really help their students." he said, looking at Annemarie.
Xander laughed as Annemarie described him, she was describing him like a Lion, a Gryffindor. "I'm not a lion, blue bird just became a Griffin. You know, half bird half something. The one's who you saw were guarding the house when you stayed with me during the summer" he said, walking over to the chair and sitting down. "I'll never be and never want to be a Lion" he added, leaned on the chair and putting his hand on Annemarie's lap.

Again, another gesture that she should have been fine with, but she could feel her body wanting to squirm away as he put his hand upon her lap. With some grace, she slipped her hand beneath his and held it, for that was a tad bit more comfortable than his hand being upon her leg. Still not one hundred percent comfortable, but better than him being, as the former nun-to-be saw it, all over her. She smiled though, trying not to allow it to shake as she thought over all she said. "I would never have gone to an adult..." she paused, realizing that she too would never have gone to the adults of her school. However, she never would have disrespected them to their faces either. "...course, I didn't need them with you always around." Again she jested and laughed. "Taking my problems upon yourself... crazy fool," she whispered, shaking her heads so that her brown locks swayed gently back and forth.
He laughed at her comments, but she could see that he was taking more offense than what she meant. Rolling her eyes she looked away from him slightly and then turned back. "Yes, but Ravens think. Do Griffin's not think? I know they're intelligent enough to do so... Xander, you've been acting..." now she was serious, but how to tell him that he had been acting foolishly without causing another argument? Sighing, Annemarie saw that she could not. "Never mind," she said as she took her free hand and gently pushing some of his hair back on top of his head and sighing. "Just... be cautious who you mess with alright? There's many here that are more dangerous to you and your position here than I think you may know."

Xander shrugged, "Getting fired doesn't affect me, it'll give me a better chance in helping my sister. Besides, with kids like these, i'm sure the past professors were glad to be fired." he said, taking his hand off Annemarie's and ruffling his hair a bit. He couldn't even survive in this place, maybe she was right....Hogwarts isn't very welcoming anymore. "Yeah, I'll be cautious. Don't worry, after this..." he added, looking at a shelf and just looking at it.

Annemarie wasn't sure if he was really taking her seriously. He didn't care about getting fired, and yet, had just said that he'd never leave her again. She sighed, his hand let go of hers and he filtered it through his hair. She should have known that things were going too, well. But Annemarie said nothing about it, for she wasn't about to forget who she was. No matter what happened, she'd taken care of herself for this long, and no matter what would happen in the future, she'd continue to take care of herself.
Yeah, I'll be cautious. Don't worry, after this...
Annemarie nodded her head and softly responded to Xander. "Good," she smiled lightly. "I only hope you would, for me at least." She stood up from the arm of the chair and sighed, going over to where she had put the lantern down and picking it up again. "I have some work to be catching up on..." Annemarie said. "I need to be going..." she didn't want to per say, for she knew there was many more things that needed to be said, but at the same time everything that was said already, needed time for both of them to digest. "I'm sure I'll see you at dinner tonight in the Great Hall... right?" she asked, a bit more hopeful than she would have normally.

Xander shook his head, "Nope, I won't be going to dinner. But if you want to see me, go to my office. I have something there.." he said, smiling at her and standing up. He then limped over to where Annemarie was going to and gave her a kiss, then he walked off and out of the library. He didn't even want to spend dinner in the great hall, he'd much rather stay in his office. Atleast there he'd have some privacy, peace and quiet. I need a space to think and maybe some time to sleep he thought, limping slowly up to his office.

As she turned from him, she heard him say that she should stop by his office sometime that night and she considered it. "Maybe I'll do that..." she said shrugging looking over her shoulder with a sly sort of smile. She laughed and shook her head, still unbelieving of exactly what she was doing. As her head turned forward, she could hear him start to get up and walk out her way. She leaned on the bookcase slightly and accepted Xander's kiss on the side of her head where her temple was located and looked up at him slightly, her smile one of compassion, but the only way Annemarie found she could show it anymore: sympathetically. He started to walk away and Annemarie sighed, her stomach doing flips, her heart rate increasing, and above everything else... her mind yelling at her, demanding an explanation about all of what happened.
"I don't know..." she whispered out loud to herself to ease her minds arguments, as she watched Xander until he was no longer in view before also making her own move to leave the library. "I just... don't know."
