A constant of dull thuds marked Brittany's walk up the stairs and towards the all-too-familiar library of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The halls empty due to the early morning hours, there was an eeriness about the place that seemed very unsettling. To only have been away from the school for a year and a half was unimaginable for it seemed as if an entire lifetime had passed by. Having settled her things into her room she figured that she would go settle down in the library. So many things did it seem that she was settling for.
It had been a grave decision to make, leaving the Daily Prophet, yet a choice that she had thought best. With the lack of stories flying her way the comely, young woman had found it best to start down a new path. Yet, ironically, that new path crossed part of her past and had led her back to the place where it all began. As the thought crossed her mind, she found her self settling once more.
Hands pressing upon the solid, wooden doors she was hit by the aroma of history pressed within millions of pages. When attending Hogwarts, Brittany had spent her fair share of time in the library but had never exactly noticed the librarian that was supposed to be around. Walking over to the counter, she glanced around at the empty tables and allowed a sigh to escape her lips.
"Okay..." Brittany spoke aloud.
Shaking random thoughts from her mind she began to bustle around, doing small things here and there to busy her self.

Early to rise meant more work and research could be done. A lot was bound to happen that winter, and with Alfonz’s plans cooking rather nicely, he had to make sure everything was perfect. Of course, that meant more planning had to be done, and the history of what he was trying to perfect was done thoroughly. Especially, since this meant his way out of the Deva for good.
Footsteps echoing within the stonewalls of the castle as he climbed up to the second floor, his shoes shinned with a brilliance that was unlike how the Quidditch player usually dressed, but then again, before it wasn’t as if he had to impress anyone either. Not that he called his courting Raynor anything but impressive, for that had just fallen into place… but he still looked damn good, and even slightly better than the rugged keeper self.
The doors of the library, slightly open, Alfonz cocked an eyebrow and entered any ways. He didn’t expect to find anyone there so early, and definitely not a face he was slightly familiar with. His eyes narrowed as he tried to think where he had seen the young woman before, but her name and the place escaped him. Maybe he had never met her and she reminded him of someone? Maybe. But highly unlikely, in his opinion.
Passing her, he stopped short as he realized a book on the ground where she was. If it had fallen or whatever, Alfonz didn’t know, it was just there and in the walkway. All he needed was to trip or have someone trip when he was the only staff around. “Best be careful where you put things,” he said solemnly, not caring if it was her who put the book there or not. “I hardly think either of us want anyone going to the hospital wing, now do we?” he mocked slightly, a smirk playing ever so tauntingly on the corner of his lips. He knew he’d seen her somewhere before… but where…?

At the sound of a voice Brittany jumped to attention, dropping the book she happened to be placing on the shelf. Focusing in on the visitor she recognized him immediately not only from her quidditch fan days but from recently as Shay's ex fling. Embarressed, she tucked a strand of her long, brown hair behind her ear and looked down at the floor. As what he had said registered in her mind, she saw that the book she had dropped along with another laid on the floor.
"Oh dear...I had no idea..." Brittany sputtered, still in a bit of shock from the surprise that he had given her.
Bending down she attempted to collect the books in a frazzled state of mind. She wondered momentarily if he recognized her and tried to recollect whether they had ever been properly introduced. Brittany was almost positive that they had not been and could not think of any other way that he would know her besides maybe registering that she looked familiar. After all they both had lived at Wendelring. As she stooped down on the ground she replayed the words that he had said upon his entrance and her mind caught up with her, registering the playful tone of his voice.
Looking up at him with a calm reverence Brittany teased, "And look what you've done now, further endangered the ankles of students and staff alike."

Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Alfonz shook his head at the woman, the smirk curving slightly larger as she jested back. Of course, he couldn’t quite grasp what was more amusing, the fact that like the little school girl she probably still was, she scurried quickly to do as he had said, picking up the books, including the one she had dropped upon his arrival. For some reason, books and girls when he was around just didn’t mix. They always seemed to drop them and bend over, only to get back up and figure out what was going on. The fact that she had figured it out and didn’t get angry with him showed that at least the girl had some promise of being some slight form of entertainment for him in that early morning.
Alfonz looked around the library and then back at the woman as she spoke. “It’s a good thing then I am here so early to correct your misfortunes,” he said, snorting slightly. “After all, I’d hate to be responsible for someone that just happened to be found in the same place as I, falling over her own two feet.” Alfonz shrugged nonchalant like and crossed his arms.
“By the way,” it was grating on his nerves that he had seen her around before then and he didn’t know who she was. And ever instinct in his body told him that he should have remembered at least a name, if not more. “I don’t think I’ve had the pleasure….” He raised an eyebrow looking for a way to get a name without giving his first. Why should he? For she probably knew his name already any ways…

Brittany stood back up, eyeing the man closely. She knew that he had taken a job here at Hogwarts, having worked at the paper she remembered the tussle over the story. Yet what was quite puzzling was what he was doing up on the second floor in the library. Early morning reading? Quite strange for a man who she knew to practically live on the quidditch field. It was, however, not in her thoughts for long as he spoke once more. She was slightly amused by the fact that he thought of the dilemma as her misfortune though it came about by his cause.
Turning from him momentarily, Brittany placed the book that she had dropped in it's proper place on the shelf. She glanced at him briefly before moving a couple of steps to the shelf that the book that had lay on the ground belonged to. After finishing the mediocre task-at-hand, she walked back towards where the man stood with his arms crossed. Taking his stance, she smirked as she mimicked him.
At his last words she raised one eyebrow and couldn't resist her words from slipping out, "No I don't believe you have..."
Like Brittany was going to give in that quickly, she was perceptive enough to notice that he had not introduced himself first. Her smart alec remark still reverberating off of the walls around them, she smirked and tilted her head to the side innocently. It was slightly annoying that he was attempting to be so suave and yet she refrained from rolling her eyes or laughing. Instead she kept a pleasant look cast upon her face because, after all, she did seem to have the advantage in the situation.

She reminded him of someone. Her mannerisms, the way she played the game... of course, maybe it was just all women who could play the game so well just to irritate all men. Either way, she did her duties and then looked back at him, crossing her arms as he had crossed his own and decided to play the game with him. Nothing that would have surprised him... if she had given her name right off, then it would have surprised him... but this did not.
Alfonz examined the woman, thinking about all the places he could have seen her somewhere before. Diagon? Maybe. And yet, he felt as though there was a bit more. It was annoying, and the only thing keeping him around. Once he knew who she was, he would know to avoid her at all costs... of course, that was as he did with most that he knew, any ways.
"Ah," Alfonz nodded, looking as though he was thinking about her response. "...must not have been that important then." Shrugging, he turned away. The situation was over and Alfonz decided that it was probably easier just to ask Raynor. Once he got the name, he'd remember, Alfonz was sure. Not to mention, there was business to be done and he was wasting time. "Good day then," he said. "I'm in need of some literature, so I can't waste much more time..." not to mention, soon the library would be filling, and he would have rather been in Shaw's presence, then surrounded by bunches of teenie boppers.

Brittany rolled her eyes and let a chuckle escape her lips. It had been fun to play his game yet now that he walked away annoyed she took it as her victory. From what she had heard about the man from Shay he had little patience and not to mention a very short temper. He seemed irritating all the same to her and she felt somewhat relieved as he released her from his stare.
"Well please let me know if you need any help Mr. Jedynak," Brittany called out in an all-too-cheery voice.
Dropping her arms, she forgot for an instant what she had been doing before he had entered the library. As she turned to go back to her desk she spotted her task of returning books to shelves. Thankfully, she only had a few more to do and then maybe she could peruse the library a bit. Especially since it was still a bit early for any student to be roaming the hallways, at least if they were half-sane.
As she started to work once more, Brittany's mind wandered to what the man had said about finding some literature. So what exactly had he been looking for? It was a curious thing. Though her mind didn't dwell on it long as she had more pertinent things to think of while she glided easily between the shelves.
