Chad almost felt like he was in school again, sent to the office for something mischievous he'd done. He grinned to himself as he thought of this, walking along the corridor to Raynor's office. She had sent him an owl saying she wanted to discuss his lesson. As the thought popped back into his head, Chad stopped dead in the middle of the hallway. What did she want to talk about? Had he done something wrong? Chad didn't think so. Maybe it was about the closing of the pitch. Perhaps she wanted it open again. Now Chad was nervous.
Outside Raynor's office, Chad paced. He looked down at what he was wearing. It was just casual clothes, a pair of jeans and a t-shirt because he hadn't been expecting to go see the Headmistress. Chad wished he'd done something more to look a little bit presentable before going to see her. Running his hand through his now much longer hair, he stopped in front of a suit of armour to check his hair quickly. The Quidditch ref tried to flatten it as much as he could before walking back to the door. With a deep breath, Chad knocked on the door and waited.

Not even a month into her position, and she very well was likely to make an enemy of one of the members of her staff. Why did it seem so different? She had unofficially run Hogwarts for years, Fiona had been too busy antagonizing the Minister to be of much help. Her stomach twisted. Or that had been her pretense. Tamis was still not over that betrayal. But that was just it, wasn't it? This was different. She was officially the commanding officer, and had possibly just made the first big mistake of her new career.
Knock. Knock.
Tamis glanced up with more than a little nerves as the expected announce that Chadwick Embers had arrived greeted her ears. She stood carefully, smoothing down the folds of her robes. He was one of the staff members that she knew the least. Fiona had hired him (at least according to the records, Tam had actually done the paperwork) and their paths rarely crossed.
She had no idea how he would take to this anvil she was going to drop so inopportunely into his lap.
"Come in," she called.

Chad took one more deep breath as he heard Raynor call him in. He didn't really think he had anything to be nervous about, but knowing Chad, he had probably done something wrong. That was the way it worked with him and he knew it always would. He chuckled lightly to himself, rolling his eyes and shaking his head as he opened the door to the office and stepped in, looking at Raynor as he entered.
"Good afternoon, Professor," Chad greeted the woman cheerfully, being as polite as he could. He barely knew his own boss and he knew that if he messed up here, the rest of his time at Hogwarts would probbaly not the best. Smiling at her, Chad stpped a couple paces closer to Raynor. "What was it you wanted to see me for?"

His smile was a little forced, but it was a common enough persona in one of her offices that the Headmistress barely gave it any thought at all. He was younger than she remembered, she thought dully. Actually, he seemed about on par with the age of their newest employee, but she couldn't be sure. Seven years and counting, and she had become pretty decent at ball parking what year the various students she came across were in. It was harder with adults, especially those in their twenties.
"Good day, Mr. Embers," she responded with a nod of her head. She held out her hand in greeting and then motioned to the pair of armchairs before her desk. "Please, do have a seat. These matters tend to seem less awkward when sitting."
It was a small jest in an attempt for humor, but the Professor nonetheless took her own advice and moved to the chair behind the desk.
"I requested your presence for one of the more obvious reasons, I am afraid." Pause. "I want to discuss the situation concerning Quidditch with you."

Chad smiled and nodded back at Raynor as she greeted him and motioned to the chairs. He gulped slightly at her little joking comment about awkward situations. He cautiously stepped toward the chair opposite the woman's desk and sat down, resting his one foot on the other knee. Chad gazed across the desk at the Headmistress, wondering what it could possibly be that she wanted him for. His palms got even sweatier than they had been when he was pacing in the hall and he could feel his heart pounding in his chest. If he has seen his boss on a more regular basis, he might not have been so terrified of being in her presence.
When she spoke finally, Chad immediately jumped into trying to explain his reason for what she wanted to talk to him about. Or at least, what he thought she was talking about. "Look, I'm sorry, Professor," he began, realizing he'd called her 'Professor' only after it was out, "I really didn't feel like the students would be safe being out on the pitch on their own like that and I can't monitor them all the time. I closed it because I thought it was best, but if you want me to reopen it, I'd be happy to."
