A year ago, Gail had been running frantically down the halls toward her meeting with Professor Raynor. Although the destination remained the same, much had changed. She was finally out of her parents’ house, if nothing else. However, this meeting was also unplanned, and something the Ravenclaw was doing by choice, rather than by force.
As Gail rounded the last corner before Raynor’s office, she remembered what had occurred during their last meeting. She had been nervous and unsure, with shaking hands and a rambling admission of her wish. A smirk appeared on the Ravenclaw’s face. That performance had been worthy of an Academy Award. The anxiety had been almost entirely an act, and the career she had mentioned had long since left her attentions, even a year ago.
Without her parents watching her every move, and the independence that provided, it was finally time to make her desires a bit more widely known. Only a bit, though.
Her hands were shaking again as she reached out to knock on the office door. Her previous anxiety had not entirely been an act, and that was no more present than now. The knocks, though softer than the last time, were still sharp and loud. They commanded attention, and she knew Raynor heard them. Although Gail was aware the door was unlocked, she felt no particular desire to sneak in. No one was around this early in the morning, and she felt it safer to alert the former Auror of her presence, rather than bursting in unannounced.
The hinges creaked, heralding the opening of the door, and Gail was roused from her thoughts.
