Sonja paced up and down the hall of the second floor outside Raynor's office, waiting for Deryn to hurry up. She had sent her an owl (for she was too lazy to tell her herself) about the wedding and all the other details. Now they were just going to talk to Raynor about being able to leave. She better let us go, Sonja thought angrily. Her mother would kill her for missing the wedding. Although Sonja didn't even want to be there, she knew she had to. Not because she was happy for her mother, but because her mother could kill her for not being there.
Angrily, Sonja continued to pace. She checked her watch, to see what the time was. Deryn was now, officially, late. Sonja was angry, because she just wanted to get this over with. She had better things to do with her time.

Deryn had been putting off meeting Sonja for a while now. She sat in the Common Room, not wanting to get up, but all the while knowing that the consequences would be a lot worse if she she didn't show. Sighing and stretching, Deryn got up and left the Common Room. She stood in the corridor for a few minutes, trying to prolong this as much as she could. Deryn would have loved to just talk to Professor Raynor by herself, but it was Sonja that had found out all the information before her. Probably won't even be able to go. Not right now anyways, Deryn thought to herself as she neared the stairs, I'm surprised they're letting us out of the Common Rooms.
As she reached the second floor, Deryn saw Sonja, pacing angrily up and down the corridor. She chuckled to herself as she watched her. It was always funny, seeing her so mad. Deryn basked in the moment for a while, before showing herself. Here we go...

"Finally! Where have you been?" Sonja spat angrily, as she turned around and saw that Deryn had finally showed up. Sonja saw that Deryn was chuckling and she scowled at her. "What are you smirking at?" she asked, but didn't bother to wait for an answer, "I don't care. Don't tell me. Let's just get this over with. You got all the information, right?"

Deryn sighed as she walked and stopped at Sonja side. She didn't bother to answer her, but knocked on the door instead. She too wanted this to be over quick. She didn't want to pretend to be nice to Sonja anymore than she had to, and Deryn knew Sonja felt the same. She didn't know why she hated her so much, she just did. Probably because she was a Slytherin.
Deryn glanced at Sonja while they waited for Professor Raynor to open the door. She was about to ask why she looked like she was limping a little, but didn't bother. She didn't really care.

"Well ok. Thanks for clearing that up," Sonja said sarcastically. She rolled her eyes and looked away from Deryn. Man, this girl was a pain. Sonja would have liked nothing more than to just walk away from Deryn and not even bother asking Raynor, but unfortunately, she had to.
"Whether you know all the details or not doesn't really matter," Sonja continued, "You can just stand there and not say anything." Sonja crossed her arms and smirked, her favourite thing to do when she had no more to say.

Deryn just chuckled. She chuckled to herself for a long time because she knew it would make Sonja mad. She, too, crossed her arms, still smiling. "Alright then," Deryn replied cooly, "Whatever floats your boat." Deryn, of course, did know all the details, having actually read the letter herself. She didn't mind letting Sonja handle actually talking to Raynor of course. She was eager to see what Sonja was going to do, and whether she was a good enough butt-kisser. From what Deryn had heard, Sonja was quite the sweet-talker, which was what they needed right now. We're not even going to be able to go, Deryn kept saying to herself. She knew they wouldn't. Not with the murder and everything. Still, it never hurt to ask.

Another group of essays from the seventh years. The bunch of them actually planned to pass their N.E.W.T.s in Defense Against the Dark Arts. It was a pitiful and laughable situation, but one that the Deputy was now trying to discern as her fault or theirs. Nay, not hers, she had been passing students with 'Exceeding Expectations' or higher in her class at N.E.W.T.s level for years now. They were just a bunch of lallygagging buffoons.
She dipped her eagle feather quill back into the red ink jar and put the tip back to a paper already bleeding with her comments when the commotion burst outside her door. After much jostling and scolding -- mock or otherwise, it was hard to tell -- a knock finally came to her door, followed by more nonsense.
The only thing was, however many might be beyond her threshold, none of them sounded like one of her Ravenclaws. That was a signal for either a) more serious trouble or b) Fiona was once again away and she handle her messes. Though both most certainly meant c) she would not finish these papers tonight.
"Come in," she called briskly. At her voice command the door flung open to reveal non-Ravenclaws indeed. As a matter of fact, it was two houses that, in her days at least, would never been seen together in broad daylight.

Sonja elbowed Deryn in the ribs sharply and spoke to her out of the corner of her mouth. "Just...shut up. Please," she muttered to Deryn, but smiled at the professor. Sonja hobbled slightly into the office and pulled Deryn in with her. "Hello Professor!" Sonja said, cheerfully, standing in front of Raynor's desk. God, here we go, Sonja thought bitterly. "My good friend, Deryn, and I had a small request," Sonja started, glancing sideways at Deryn. Do not screw this up... she thought, wishing Deryn could hear her.

The elbowing in the ribs was really too much. Deryn would have liked to turn around and smack Sonja, but the door had opened, and she was being pulled into the room.
Deryn was about to open her mouth and speak, but had to close it quickly and tightly so she wouldn't laugh when Sonja started to speak. It really was too much. Her good friend? Deryn thought, surely even Raynor would see right through that... Instead of saying something, Deryn just stood there, and looked at Raynor.
When she saw Sonja's glance, Deryn scoffed. She knew she wasn't going to say anything, so Sonja didn't need to worry. Deryn figured it was best to let Sonja do all the talking, and just stand there, and nod every once in a while. It was the easiest way to avoid conflict later.
