Cobblestone wasn't particularly the best thing to be skating on. Guy knew this, he had tried it before and on more than one occassion had ended up face planting because of it.
The snow was melted for the most part, although an occasional bit of ice would fly up from the ground and smack Guy in the leg. He didn't pay much attention to it as he skateboarded on, propelling himself forward with his right and every so often his left feet. He kept his mind open, thinking about how he was going to be graduating soon and how he would have to figure out what it was he wanted to do. Sure, drumming was a no brainer for the Gryffindor adolescent, but it was more complicated than just deciding what he wanted to do. There was always a question of how, and who with.
Questions like these loomed over the seventh year, and he did his best to not think about them as he skated along the bumpy stones. He was dressed for the spring weather, wearing a long sleeved bright red shirt underneath a black graphic tshirt with the white Vans label on it. As per usual, Guy also wore a pair of old jeans with several rips in the knees. He wore a dark gray fedora on his head, making his whole outfit look a bit hodge podge and randomly put together. He liked the hat, though, and tried rather hard to keep it on his head as he jumped and slid along the length of one of the empty benches, kicking himself off at the last minute and landing back onto the ground.
" Duddeeee... " He muttered to himself, readjusting the hat atop his head as he continued to skate, taking on several jumps as he did so. Guy grinned easily and closed his eyes as he started to circle around the fountain in the courtyard. He had skated the area many times, and with not a lot of people around, he felt comfortable with it. Opening his eyes at the last second before he made the jump, Guy kicked himself and his board up into the air, grinding on the edge of the fountain. It was a hazardous move, probably not that intelligent, but really... when did that ever stop him before?

Cedar was torn between being stuck in the stuffy rooms of the castle and going outside into the cold. He was amazingly glad that the snow was melting but still found it annoyingly chilly outside. So wearing two long sleeve shirts and a jacket but no shoes or socks he found his way out into the courtyard. It was relatively empty and he easily avoided the few group of people who were already there. He found his way to a bench, sat down, and soon was watching an older boy from his house skating. He had never seen a skateboard before nor somebody riding one so he was quite fascinated with the process. He did not get how when the boy jumped into the air the bored followed him, his first theory was that it was glued to his feet, but that proved wrong when he took his foot off to propel himself. He watched silently for a while, no longer interested in the mechanics of it but wondering why on earth he was doing it. It seemed to be a fairly swift mode of transportation but he was just going around in circles. He toyed with the idea of asking him, but barely briefly, he did not want to intrude. So he just sat there and watched.

At first he was a little shaky, his body moving along with the board as he slid on the edge of the fountain, his knees bent just slightly. He was reducing his risk of falling, or at least... he hoped he was. Falling was always a bummer, even if it did bring him to cool people like Abby and Felicity. The results were fine and dandy, but the actual act of landing pretty much sucked. Which was why Guy was shocked as all heck when he jumped off the edge of the fountain in one piece, not having fallen in the pool of water or out of it onto the cobblestone either. He knew he wasn't a terrible skater, but it was still a mystery to him.
Guy didn't notice anyone around him at that point, and he nodded his head along to music that only he could hear, wondering if he could perhaps later be able to take one of his annual trips to the Room of Requirement and have a quick little drum session. All depends on if the room is empty or not.. He had to remind himself, because it wouldn't have been the first time that Guy was let down because the room was already occupied by another.
What if I --- Guy had been about to form a plan of heading up to the RoR during dinner time when most of everyone would be eating, but his thought was interrupted by him falling flat of in his face in front of a bench. The culprit? A tiny, tiny, teensy eensy little pebble. He didn't know it though and luckily he had had time to throw his hands out in front of him, so the worst of his injuries was scratched up hands and a scraped chin. " Aww man.. " He said, not looking up to the bench quite yet, he remained on his stomach, touching his chin lightly to feel some blood.

He flinched as the older boy fell, not from empathy but drawing back for a moment almost like he was in shock, though he was not. He then quickly dropped down in a crouch, ready to spring. His first instinct when seeing somebody fall, completely vulnerable, was to attack. He plunged his hand into his robes not for a wand but for a short wooden knife. It was not an ideal weapon but the tip was hard and fairly sharp, with the right amount of pressure he could pierce the jugular.
It took a moment for him to remember himself and he slowly stood up and removed his hand from his pocket. He stood there for a moment slowing his breathing and heart rate that had spiked as he had responded to the boy falling down. Opening his eyes he looked down at the older boy and observed him for a moment before he nudged him in the side with his foot.
“You ok?” He asked after another moment during which he thought weather or not he should say anything, decided what to speak, and then had to think of something to say.

Faceplanting into the ground was not exactly his intention, but the ground didn't seem to care either way. The seventeen year old's hand instinctively remained pressed lightly against his scraped chin. It was stupid, but all the while he was thinking, Man... I'm gonna have an awesome scar. In the end though, Guy couldn't decide if it would be an awesome scar or just a stupid one that made him look like a little kid that fell on the playground. It was still up in the air.
He threw a look around the place, noticing the bench for the first time, as well as the occupant of the bench. Guy stared at the kid for a few seconds, wondering why he was poking him with his bare foot. It took a few short seconds for Guy to realize that he had seen this kid around the common room before. He moved himself into a sitting position, his legs crouched in front of him slightly, his one hand still pressed against his chin, cupping it slightly and making it a little difficult to talk to the small boy.
He looked a tad bit unkept with long dark hair, no shoes, and bright blue eyes. It was the eyes that made Guy stare, but he diverted his gaze to behind him, where his board lay. This always seemed to happen. " I'm uh, okay. Are you dude? " He couldn't really see a particular reason why the kid would not be okay, but as always it was polite to ask.

Sitting back down on the bench he raised his eye brows a little at the older boys response, which had the effect of making his eyes seem even larger. Lowering his eyebrows he responded, "Why wouldn't eye be? I didn't fall." He watched the boy curiously, he had no qualms about staring, though was careful not to make direct eye contact. He absently ran his tongue over his lips as he thought about what he should do now, Katie would want him to 'socialize' to make friends with the older boy, but Katie wasn't here. He probably had his own pack among the older students and wouldn't want a first year poking about. It would probably be best just to leave him alone.
However, instead of getting up and walking away he pointed towards the skateboard and asked, "What is that?" He would like to examine it but knew it would be rude to just grab it, he better ask first. "May I see it?" It was very strange thing indeed, the surface looked rough like it was made of a piece of wood that had not had the bark stripped off of it but the color was wrong for that. Then there were the wheels on the bottom, like a car, but not like a car because there was no motor.

The little dude had a good point, but it was Guy's instinct as an older brother to check on the younger kids first, even when he was the one falling or breaking his arm or leg or harming whatever else on his body. " I have no idea. Thought I might have bonked ya on the 'ead. " He commented as he lifted his shoulders up and down a couple times in a shrug. Guy ran a finger along the length of his chin, feeling the scrape where he had bashed it into the cobblestone. It wasn't too bad or deep, but probably made his chin look a bit scraggly. He dropped his hand to his side and wiped the traces of blood off on his jeans.
He had just been about to ask what the kid was doing out here with no shoes on when he heard a question thrown his way. " Sure, have at it. " He said, pulling out his wand from his pocket. " Accio skateboard! " He called out to the board and seconds later it was in his hands. " Here, dude... You got a name? " He asked, holding out his skateboard for the first year to take from him. Guy figured that, like some of the people at Hogwarts, the kid just had never been around things like skateboards before, so he wasn't offended by his curiosity.

"Cedar," He responded as he reached out and took the skateboard. He ran a hand over both sides of the surface, spun the wheels with his hand, then tried to snap it in half. He failed of course and he meant nothing by it he just wanted to see how strong it was so he grasped an end with each hand and tried to bend it. He spun one of the wheels again with his hand. He held the board up to eye level to closely examine the board then looked across to the older boy.
"What type of wood is this made of?" He asked and set the board on the bench next to him and gave it a little push. He watched it roll forward a few inches and stopped it just before it went off the edge. He pulled it back and flipped it over so he could examine the bottom of the board again. Once he had study it for a few minutes more he was confident he had sufficient knowledge to be able to build one if he wanted to and if he had the right materials.
He offered the board back to the boy asking, "What is the point of it?" Was it just for fun or did it have any actual functions? He was also watching the boy closely to make sure he wasn't getting annoyed with all his questions.

Cedar. That was a funky name, but he guessed some people might consider ' Guy ' to be a strange name, too. " Good to meet you, Cedar. I'm Guy styles at your service. " He would have offered his hand to the younger Gryffindor, but the dude seemed too preoccupied with the skateboard and... trying to break it. " Watch it there, bud. " He said in a slightly warning kind of way, although not harsh. There was no way that Cedar could break it from the amount of times Guy had magically reinforced the wood, but he wanted to make sure just in case.
Guy pushed himself off of the ground and situated himself onto the opposite end of the bench, keeping an eye on Cedar and watching the young boy's fascination with the object. The question threw him off guard and he looked around, a little confused at first. " Type of wood? I'm not sure. Why do ya ask? " He ventured, wondering if it mattered why the kid had asked. He was probably curious was all. The seventeen year old took the board back when it was offered to him and nodded a small thanks. " The point? " He paused, thinking. " It could be used for transportation, or for fun. I typically use it for both. "
Guy turned the board upside down on the bench in the space between the two, flicking at the wheels closest to him. " Want to try it? "

"At my service?" He mumbled and wonder what exactly he meant by that. Then he answered the older Gryffindor, "I've never seen bark like that on the top. I wondered the type of tree it came from." Fun, well he didn't think it would be that fun but then again he had never tried it.
Seeming to read his mind the older boy asked if he would like to try it. Well he had not really planned on doing anything today but he did not see anything that could be lost by trying it. He studied the boy for a moment but didn't sense he was going to try any tricks. He leaned off of the bench so his hand were on the ground and slid forward, stretching in the perfect imitation of an animal, then he let his feet drop off the bench and stood erect. "I'll try it, but I do not know how it works."
He walked over to the bench where he was sitting and looked at the board for a moment. He had been watching the boy for a while before he fell so he had a general idea of how to make the board move. Still he had no idea how the older boy made it follow him when he jumped and was sure if he tried he would fall like the boy had so recently done.

Guy was looking his hands over, noticing how there were still little rocks that had dug themselves somewhat deep into his skin. Ouch. He missed Cedar's mumblings, and went to the task of digging out the rocks. " I dunno about that one... I've never been much for the technical things about the board. Just how to ride. " And even then, Guy wasn't the greatest at that most times. It was evident from the amount of times he managed to fall on, in front of or into people.
Guy directed his gaze onto the kid as he stretched down from the bench, looking very animal-like. He threw a curious glance in his direction but looked away for fear of staring. Who was this kid? He didn't have any clue, but was still rather interested to find out.
" Here, Cedar. Just don't try any tricks or anything at first, take it a little slow. " He mentioned, handing the skateboard over to the young Gryffindor once again. " I'm just gonna... sit here and watch for a second. Gotta get these rocks outta my hand... " He said with a small nod as he looked back down to his slightly bleeding hand. His chin still hurt quite a bit, but it only hindered his talking a bit. And luckily, no teeth had been knocked loose... to his knowledge.

He took the board and looked at it for a moment. Now how was he supposed to do this? He set it on the ground and tentatively stood on it. After a moment when it did not break under him he rocked back and fourth on the board, getting used to how it moved. He closed his eyes after a quick glance at Guy to make sure he wasn't very close to him, and tried to picture how he was doing it. He positioned himself on the board goofy-footed and placed a foot on the ground to push off with. Before he could to that however he had to stand like that a moment and get used to it. Right so push with that foot, put it back on the board, hey he was moving forward. He grinned as he moved forward a few feet. Cobblestone was not the best thing to learn to skate on however and it was very bumpy. He stopped, got off, turned the skateboard around, and got back on and pushed himself forward again.
This time when he rolled to a stop he pushed off again, he tried to turn around while going but only managed to swivle from side to side, which was rather enjoyable. Once he had gone a ways he got off and turned around and skated back towards the older Gryffindor. This time he pushed a few times with his foot before getting onto the skateboard which got him going faster but also resulted in him losing his balance and tumbling off of the board.
He caught himself on his hands but didn't stop himself and rolled over once with the momentum of the fall. As soon as he stopped he was crouching on the ground, poised on his toes and knuckles ready to run or attack. Maybe he didn't like skateboarding.

Guy alternated his glances from his slightly bleeding hand, back to the little first year as he took the skateboard and set it on the ground. He seemed to be contemplating just how to go about the whole ' skating ' business and the seventh year couldn't help but grin slightly. To him, skating was a natural, normal and even necessary thing. To have met people who didn't know how to skate or didn't even know what it was, it was strange for Guy even though he had been attending Hogwarts for what felt like forever now.
He still hadn't gotten used to teaching random people how to skate, generally whenever he ran into them while skating. He glanced back up to Cedar, nodding in a somewhat encouraging way as the kid stepped onto the board. Guy would have reccommended regular footing for a beginner, he knew the kid would get it eventually. He seemed relatively smart, if not ' all there, ' but Guy couldn't really say much on the topic as he wasn't exactly ' all there ' all the time. He dug a particularly deep piece of rock out of his hand and stood up, stretching his arms behind his back for a moment or two before taking a couple of steps away from the bench.
He noticed Cedar going along at a nice slow speed, stop, turn around, and go again. The kid tried to turn, and Guy held his tongue, not wanting to give him too much to think about on his first try. He was doing alright, until he manage to lose his balance and fall. It was part of skating, falling every once in a while, or if you were like Guy, falling every other hour or two. He slid his slightly tender hands into his pockets, wincing as he walked over to where the younger student was crouched on the ground, giving a very animal like aura to him. " You okay, Cedar? Maybe we should try in an area lacking the cobblestone. "

He bounced back to his feet, a bark-like laughter bursting from his mouth as he suddenly decided that falling had been more fun than the actual skating and that on the whole he did like skateboarding. He grinned for a moment more after his laughter has ended just as quickly as it had begun. He looked at his hands, curled and uncurled his fists, it seemed he was more fortunate in landing that Guy had been and was not even scrapped, though a bit red. "I'm fine." He told the older boy and looked around.
He saw only cobblestone and grass and nothing came to him when he thought about an area that would be better, but maybe the older boy knew of a place. He shrugged, "If you know a better place, I'll try there." He walked over to where the board had rolled to and with his foot nudged it back over to where they were standing.

The kid was fine, at least he looked fine, and he was currently laughing, so he couldn't have banged himself up too bad during the fall. He even faired better than the seventh year during his own little tumble and Guy grinned slightly, nodding along as he tried to think of a place that would be better to go skating at. Really, anywhere inside would be better than the cobblestone, but then again the floors of the corridors weren't always the flattest of surfaces in the world.
The only idea that really stuck was heading up to the Room of Requirement and really teaching the kid how to skate, skatepark and all. Just the idea caused the seventeen year old to grow excited, but he supposed he first had to check and see if the little dude was up for it. " You ever heard of the room of requirement? I was thinking maybe there, we could get a whole skatepark... it would probably provide an extra deck for you, too. " Guy didn't know if the younger boy actually knew that deck meant skateboard, and he barely gave it any amount of thought in his excitement. He had used the room of requirement countless times, once with Celina drumming and various othertimes when he was just jamming out with himself. There had also been other times when he had used the room to skate as well, so the idea wasn't all that new.
