"Come here, kitty kitty kitty," Dustan called out soothingly, hoping to attract the attention of the lone kitten. While he'd never really been much of an animal lover, he had seen the cat all by its lonesome and he felt for it, wondering why it had no companion about and didn't seem to be budging from the floor he'd nearly tripped over it on. It was a cute little bugger, he'd give it that, and he'd chased it for near on to half an hour by this point, it was just so hard to relate to animals. Plants were much easier, they didn't run when you tried to talk to them, water them, feed them, anything with them. Instead they stayed motionless, waiting for a person to love on them.
But this cat, it was boggling him. Where did it come from? Who was the owner? he almost wished it was required for the creatures of the castle to wear ID tags, telling who they were and who they belonged to, which house, all of that. Then, if he could possibly catch it, he could return the thing to its rightful owner. But who was that? What was even more distressing was Dustan had heard the Head Mistress wasn't too fond of animals, and he wasn't looking forward to having to take it to her and tell her he didn't know who it belonged to. Not that it was really his job to do as such, but he felt a compelling urge to find the owner.
"Here kitty, kitty, kitty," he tried again, his voice cracking with every syllable. Certainly this phase of his adolescence was nearly over with. "Come on you cat," he said, more to himself than the elusive furball before him. It belonged to someone if it was inside the castle, so it had to be at least marginally tame, right? And if it wasn't, then it had no right to be in a castle full of children. Though, he'd heard of some of the creatures snuck into the school, so maybe he was hoping against hopes.
Climbing down to his hands and knees, Dustan crawled slowly over the floor, hoping a lower stance and calmer presence would make the cat stay still. "I've almost got you, kitty..."
