[ Full Character Name: ] Lucia Valcourt
[ Character Gender: ] Female
[Character Age:] January 17th, 1986; 21
[ Position Requesting: ] Magical Law Enforcement Squad – Secretary, Filer, and Mistress of Paperwork
[ Country of Citizenship: ] Dual: Italy and England.
[Years of Employment at Ministry:] Four nerve-wracking years.
[ Physical Character Description: ]
Lucia is your typical Italian beauty. She’s got big hazel eyes, a large smile, and naturally tan skin. She received most of her looks from her mother, looking like many of the pictures that were taken when her mom was her age. The only thing she has of her father is his nose, which is not such a large contribution considering she has her mother’s eyes, hair, and frame. Her hazel eyes shift from more green to more brown on many occasions, depending on what she is wearing and the lighting.
Her hair tends to change as well. She’ll wear it down, usually, and in two different styles. She’ll let her normal curls show or she’ll straighten it out for a sleeker look. She doesn’t really pay attention to her looks that much though, even if she does care how she appears to other people, she isn’t one of those girls that could spend three hours in the bathroom every morning making sure she looks just perfect. She uses a little bit of make-up and wears stylish clothes, but other than that, she is just a normal young woman.
Like everyone else, she can be caught on her bad days in sweatpants with her hair up in a pony, jogging around Diagon Alley or Hogsmeade, but for the most part she’s well groomed and takes care of herself like she saw her mother do when she was young. Her frame is tiny, she’s just barely five feet two inches tall and weighs less than one hundred ten pounds, but in that small frame are a powerful force and a lot of soul. Her good attitude is shown through her bright and cheerful smile which radiates whenever she graces the world with a two thousand watt grin.
[ Personality Character Description: ]
Lucia has an appreciation for all things beautiful and romantic. She used to be very introverted, but in the past few years has really come into her own. She doesn’t let her accent get to her any more, as it has softened to only a lilting Italian accent, but actually enjoys it now – as a sign of how unique and special she really is. Her social skills have greatly improved and she loves school and people now, using her intelligence and talent to gain friends and have a good time with life.
She’s determined and quite patient, able to work through problems (both work related and personal) with ease. She hates confrontation and would much rather spend five hours talking out a problem than ten minutes creating one. Her peaceful and joyous look on life spreads happiness throughout where ever she goes and she typically tries to make everyone just as happy as she is. Granted, she does take criticism personally, but since she began working at the ministry, that’s sort of changed.
At work, she tends to be a bit… neurotic. Because she’s constantly running around for someone or doing something that requires her to be paying a lot of attention to specific details, she’s on pins and needles on busy days. She knows her job is important and any sort of mistake could possibly jeopardize her career as well as the life of someone else (if they are dealing with a convict or suspected Deva). She takes her job very seriously, so inside work she’s a basket case. She’s passionate about what she does too. If she feels strongly for something she’ll fight tooth and nail for it to make sure it’s preserved. A lot of her emotion comes out strongly, her mother taught her to never keep anything bottled up inside of her and if she does, she lets them out some way or another, usually jogging or some kind of physical activity.
Outside of work, she’s a laid back woman – very happy and bubby with the loyal attitude of a Hufflepuff Alumni. She still has her Hogwarts scarf and wears it on cold days, Along with her accent; she took a sense of loving life and being happy from her homeland of Italy. The beautiful sea town attitude travels with her, at least when she’s not being buried under paperwork, so catch her after that and she’s a more than amiable companion.
[ History: ]
Lucia’s father, an English diplomat with the Ministry of Magic, met Marcella, her mother, while working in Italy. He was sent to Naples, the beautiful coastal city on the Mediterranean Sea to form a relationship between the British Ministry and the Italians in the fight against LV and his supporters. The sparkling water, beautiful language, and entrancing city did not seem to be affected by the fighting, but it provided the setting for two very different people to meet. He was young, idealistic, and ready to save the world while Marcella was just a muggle clerk at her father’s local grocery store where Edward frequently shopped.
They met on several occasions, but barely spoke until one day when Marcella was the only one in the shop and Edward came into the store in need of a few supplies. He asked the young lady for help and she led him around the store, deciphering his list and adding a few things of her own (noticing how skinny he was, she decided he needed to eat more). Edward was instantly taken with her and asked her if she wouldn’t mind going to dinner with him. However, she refused – seeing as though her father wouldn’t approve. After several (what seemed like hundreds) of attempts, he finally got her consent and they began to date.
After six months of dating, it came time for Edward to explain what he was really doing and who he was. At first, Marcella wasn’t going to accept this – magic simply didn’t exist and it went against God (fiercely Roman Catholic girl); however, Edward was determined to prove that the two things could coincide with one another. He showed her what good magic did and explained differences between the good and the bad. She refused to see him for several weeks, but the persistent Englishman won her over in the end, sans magical charm.
When she forgave him and accepted what he was and what he did, Edward sought her hand in marriage. In one of the beautiful Cathedrals of Naples they were wed on April 21st, like any fairytale romance. Seeing as though they lived in one of the most romantic places on earth, it didn’t take long for them to be expecting their first child. It was a relatively uneventful pregnancy and on the seventeenth of January, they welcomed their first daughter, Lucia into the world. Lucia was a beautiful baby girl and they devoted quite some time to their daughter. Marcella gave up working in favor of staying home and raising their daughter and Edward continued to be a liaison between England and Italy.
Besides speaking Italian from birth, Edward taught his daughter English and made sure she would be fluent in both languages. He also taught her some French and Spanish as well, making sure that she was well rounded and hoped that maybe, like him, she would go into International Diplomacy. However, Marcella wasn’t going to close all options to her daughter and thusly, felt she needed more of a rounded education, taking on the role of provider of all things cultural. She exposed her to Muggle culture while her father was the primary source of magic – a very mixed childhood was produced from this type of upbringing.
When Lucia was nine, her father received note him and his family would be transferred back to England. Excited by the prospect, Lucia couldn’t wait to go. Her mother was hesitant about leaving the relaxed atmosphere of Italy, but her loves for her husband outweighed her love for her country – and the Valcourt’s said goodbye to Italy and were welcomed into the arms of England. Lucia and her mother applied for citizenship to the country upon arrival – and were granted after several months of filing paperwork and interviews. Thankfully, Edward had taught them both well.
Getting used to England was a challenge. Of course, they had visited Edward’s family, but living there was completely different. Lucia had to learn to use her second language primarily and making friends was difficult. She “sounded funny” and when she sneezed, people’s hair turned different color from time to time. So, it became quite apparent that muggle friends weren’t really going to work for her until she learned how to control any magic she had. Thusly, when she was ten she received her letter to attend Hogwarts. Marcella was skeptical at first, but Edward convinced her it was a good idea and they sent their daughter to school; hopefully to find something she was really good at and make real friends. It was also safer for her to be in school than be outside.
With the war going on and all of the things with Lord Voldemort occuring, Edward didn’t want his daughter exposed to that world. He was right too – in her second year, LV was defeated by Harry Potter – there were an upsurge in confidence in the ministry as well as in the school system, it seemed that an era of peace would reign. However, Edward suspected peace was only momentary and was right. Without a leader, the death eaters sort of fell apart and had to pick up the pieces. Many left, but others dedicated themselves to the cause once again – leading him to keep Lucia in school with the support of Marcella who worried about her daughter’s safety.
She was sorted into Hufflepuff and even there she found it hard to make friends for a while. Shy because of the teasing she received outside of school, she stuck to herself and to her studies, only occasionally stepping out of her alone comfort zone to ask for something. She wrote home frequently and spent more time reading or occupying herself with things of that nature than communicating. But, in her fifth year, she sort of decided to scrap her old ways and try to make some friends – be more social and get involved. She started to open up to people and actually found as they got older and she was in England more and more, people were quite nice. She just had to really open up to them.
Once she learned this, she flourished in a social environment and met a lot of people she kept around for a long time. Graduating with average marks and a pretty good sense of self, Lucia went into the ministry like her father. However, she wasn’t interested in international diplomacy like he would have wanted her to be. She found herself drawn towards Magical Law Enforcement, but definetely not as an Auror or Hitwizard. No, she figured she’d be more suited towards some sort of desk work or decision making and applied for a job within the department immediately following graduation.
She became sort of a paperwork jockey which freaks her out a lot of the time. Her department deals with employing Hitwizards and catching criminals, or questioning suspected ones. All the paperwork she does is extremely important which leads her to take her job very seriously. Although she knows she can’t directly help fight against the forces of evil, she does help keep things organized so that everyone else can. It’s not a big job, but it is her’s and she enjoys it, despite the stress it puts on her.
In addition to work, Lucia was able to get her own apartment and set herself up in downtown London, living in a fairly posh area with a little push from her father. Yes, she was always a daddy’s girl and will continue to be one. She has a white cat named Giovanni who lives with her and is currently living life day by day, doing her small part in the big organization of the ministry.
[ Special talents/knacks : ]
Lucia is multilingual. She speaks English, Italian, French, and a bit of Spanish as well. It’s her strongest asset and often times, when things aren’t going well between different members of the wizarding world, her or her father are called in to translate from time to time. She was primed to be a Diplomat by her father and she’s very educated in the different types of wizarding governments around the world; however, she prefers the brand of law enforcement she’s involved in. She’s stronger with words than she is with potions or spells. She’s also extremely organized, which totally helps in her job. Along with organization, her patience helps her at work. She definetely knows how to deal with people and deal with anything that thrown at her, especially in the way of angry superiors.
On another note, she’s an amazing cook and loves making Italian food for herself and anyone who stops by. She’s extremely hospitable and loves to have company over. Anytime anyone needs someone to talk to or help out with something, she’s probably the one to ask. Lucia has a great sense of loyalty and can keep secrets better than anybody she knows. She also really knows how to apply make-up and coordinate, but that just comes from being a girl. Often times, she’ll fix the men’s ties in her department, just because their sloppiness bothers her.
[Writing/Role Playing Example:]
“Here Lucia!”
“Oh! I have something for you Lu!”
“Wait, wait!”
Everyone wanted the same thing when Lucia was walking through the office, and with every cubicle she passed, the bundle in her arms got a little higher. The stack of files as high as her neck was cradled carefully in her arms while she walked down the hall of endless papers. She was filing, and that meant she was collecting papers from everyone else first. They had conveniently located the stock file cabinets on the other side of the office so that she would have to trek across the halls day in and day out – waiting for everyone to hand off their work to her.
Doris had supplied her with a good thirty files and as soon as she agreed to take them on, everyone else started piling them on too. A gesture of good will had literally turned into a neck ache as she tried to hold onto the papers with her hands as well as clamp down with her neck. This created a rather interesting walking scenario, and Lucia gulped as she slowly made her way towards the cart with the rest of the files she had already collected and transferred.
It seemed cases were coming faster than ever, or at least getting done quickly, so she had quite a bit of paperwork still sitting on her desk that needed to be filled out. She licked her lips nervously when she put the files down on the cart. Grabbing the handles, Lucia started towards the looming, grey filing cabinets in front of her – dreading the entire mess of having to actually go through and alphabetize everything she had to do. Ah well, she was going to have to do this at some point or another, so she might as well get it over with now.
She blew one of the curls out of her face and stopped in front of the cabinets, her hazel eyes glanced towards the piles of files on the cart and she silently cursed to herself, lifting up a more comfortable arm full of papers. She sighed softly and looked at the first name on the little tab. “Crosby, Harrison,” she murmured to herself, biting her lip as she looked for the C tab on the cabinets. Quickly finding it, she darted over and opened up the cabinet near the floor, squeaking as she felt someone tap on her shoulder.
The arm full of files fell from her arms and Lucia silently cursed to herself, not happy. Looking over her shoulder, she almost fell over herself. Mr. Turnbold, one of the superiors was standing over her, looking none to pleased with her. "Shouldn't you be filling out reports?" he asked in a stern voice - a bright red blush coming over her cheeks.
"Quite sorry Sir," she spoke up nervous, her voice slipping more towards Italian than English because of the jittery feeling she had. "I'll get on that straight away," he walked off huffily, not without making a comment about cleaning up her mess, and Lucia looked down at the floor - cursing softly to herself. She took her wand out of her pocket and hoped she did the spell right this time - if she ever burned the files like she did last time - well, she'd be in a lot more trouble than what she already faced.
