Christmas time was drawling nearer and nearer within the halls of Hogwarts. Snow had long accumulated outside the walls, covering the grounds in its cold, soft texture. The ghosts had taken to floating in packs and singing Christmas carols and anxious students began giggling more and more with excitement as most started preparing to return home for the winter break.
But the most astonishing transformation was the Great Hall. The house tables had been rearranged to form one solid buffet line of all of the Kitchen's best array. From garlic roasted potatoes to herb-stuffed chickens and juicy roasts to the finest of rice puddings. The savory smells filled the entire decorate Hall.
And decorated it was.
Tall trees from the Forest had been cut, trimmed, and set up around the perimeter of the room, the tallest of them all taking the honorary residence in the middle of the Hall; each glittering and sparkling with glass ornaments of spectacular colors and twinkling lights. The floors had taken the glossy blue-white of ice, though it was in fact still flooring, and the walls seemed to be made of frost. The entire room appeared to have been transformed into a winter wonderland, polished off with the mimic snowfall from outside and the latest-crazed band finishing their set up where the High Table usually sat.
Yule Ball's were usually reserved for fantastic occasions, but both the Headmistress and Deputy had agreed that one was in order given recent events happening in the wizarding world. The students needed the distraction.
Now all that was needed, were those students.
((The Yule Ball is officially open. All current residents at Hogwarts may attend.))

Daniel walked into the Great Hall actually looking pretty good in a suit. Making sure noone was there, he slipped a few boxes of chocolates onto the main table, opened them, and sniggered before heading away to the back corner. Although they looked like your ordinary chocolates, they were filled with a weak-love potion, and when the eater.... eats them, they fall in love with the first person they lay eyes on for no more then 15 minutes.
Daniel had a suit on of black and a baby blue tie to match his eyes. His hair, messier then ever, but the messy hair look suited him. What was pretty funny, was the suit on him, because he was generally your trouble-making kid, hense the chocolates.
Daniel whistled to himself and ruffled his hair with his free right hand, waiting for Brittany to arrive so he could warn her not to eat the chocolates. By the end of the night, he would probably eat a few, just for the fun of falling in love with someone he truely disliked.
Daniel grinned at the band setting up, and hoped they didn't notice his little chocolates with love potion in them, but his eyes caught the food. Yes he had lunch about an hour ago, but then again, all of it looked so appitizing... at least any detentions he would get would help him work it off.
((admin gave permission, and stated he could plan on getting in trouble. No more, no less. ))

Beni came out in that night in full party mood. She had practiced her dancing by dancing all over the girls' dorms, singing "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" by Michael Jackson at the top of her lungs.
She reserved enough energy for the rest of the night, of course. She spent her prep time helping herself and others with make-up and hair, but making laps around her dress, the dress she admired so much. It was her lucky dress, if you will. The style was a gown, with a red polka dots and an attention grabbing bow at the breast. The dress was flamboyant, but feminine.
Courtesy of Ana and Sherlyn, they shipped her dress to her that morning. And she thanked all her lucky stars to find that it still fit her. Even when special occasions didn't roll by, she was still wore it.
But this time she put it to good use as she chucked her wand in her house and entered the Great Hall with a great stride. Smiling at all eyes and faces, she still sung the song under her breath. She stood next to a bloke from class, the name escaped her. "Don't stop till you get enough... Oh! You're in my year, yeah? It was Daniel, right? Or Frederick? Joseph? Thomas? You look like a Thomas, though, to me."

((ooc: it had to be a Michael Jackson song lol))
Dan just looked at the girl, and laughed at the song. "Daniel Jackson. And before you ask, I am not related to the singer at all even though my father's name was Michael." Dan didn't think he looked like a Thomas at all, more of a Jeff or maybe a Luke with his Italian features, but definatly not a Thomas.
"Feel free to call me Dan, Daniel, Danny, DJ, or Deej." He said with a grin. "Oh and a word of caution, avoid those chocolates." He pointed to the opened box of chocolates. With his free right hand, he ruffled his hair making it messier, but better looking then before, a strange talent indeed. Daniel's eyes today were a bright blue, as he had cursed his contacts to turn blue so he wouldn't have black eyes with his contacts, and didn't need to wear his glasses.
Danny, unlike the girl before him, had spent only ten minutes getting ready for the dance. 5 for his hair, which was getting neater by the second (he had to ruffle it soon enough), 4 for putting on the suit, and a single minute for the tie, which indeed was messily tied at his neck.
Dan looked at her again, 'What did you say your name was? I've forgotten."

"I never told you me name, do you can't forget it yet." Beni said as she flicked her temporarily scarlet hair from her eyes. "Beni Hendrix. And nope, not related to Jimi, but sure wish I was. Shame you're disowning you relative stranger, because MJ's pretty brilliant." Looking onto the chocolates, she frowned. "Why not? You planning something?" She asked, but she didn't actually know what he had up his sleeve. (Because my dress's link is dead except for when posting: )

Drew paced the outside hallway, waiting for Alhana to show up. He was dressed in his best suit and his shoes were shined to a gloss. His tie was one he had begged his dad to borrow: it had pictures of Rudolph and had a real light up nose that twinkled, plus, when you pressed on it, the song played. He resisted the urge to run his hands through his hair. It was a nervous habit he had and he had spent a good part of an hour trying to tame the curls. Why he just hadn't gotten a hair cut, he didn't know. The students were starting to enter the hall and again, he looked up at the stairs, waiting. The girls do it, so I'm doing it too

Brittany walked down the grand staircase and into the Entrance Hall. The dress that she had found in a catalogue had arrived just in the nick of time. It was a light pink colour that looked good against her tan skin. Two thin straps stretched across her shoulders and the bottom of the dress flowed down to just below her knee. A mauve coloured bow was placed upon her hip with a rhinestone clustered center. The girl's hair was pulled back in small spiral curls and she had a couple curls here and there that fell down around her face. Walking towards the entrance to the Great Hall in her strappy low heels, she spotted Drew. Giving him a warm smile she nodded to him. She knew that he was waiting for Alhana, who happened to be just about ready as Brittany had left the common room. Going into the hall, she felt as if she had just stepped into a winter wonderland. It was brilliant, the decorations, the trees, the frost, everything. Spotting Beni and Daniel she walked over to them. "Wow you look simply gorgeous..." Brittany complimented Beni. Her dress was so cute and the bow made her look like a present waiting to be opened. Turning to Dan she smiled and said, "You clean up pretty good." Brittany's Dress

Beni looked at Brittany and gasped. "You look simply smashing, Britt!" The moment stirred the Gryffindor to hug the other Gryffindor. Pulling back, held a hand to her heart dramatically, and said, "Sorry, I always get this way in special moments like this. You should see me at weddings and funerals. I'm a bawler."

Unlike most of the girls that were in her House, Alhana didn't take a century to get ready. Since she owned no makeup besides lipstick and a few shades of different eye shadows, the only thing she had to do was shower, put her hair up, and slip her dress on. Within half an hour of stepping under steaming water, she was making her way down to the Hall where Drew was surely awaiting her.Even though she had been going to dances with him for the past few years, she still felt jittery inside, like chocolate frogs really were jumping around in her stomach. Her dress, held up by a single strap around her neck, was a plain white until it reached her waistline, where it was lightly embroidered with colorful designs of exotic flowered and tied with a single, black, silk ribbon. It reached to just above her knees, revealing lightly tanned skin from being out in the sun. She wore flat black shoes that she had found stuffed in her trunk; she'd be kicking them off once they stepped inside, anyways. Jet black hair was up in a loose ponytail and the only jewelry she wore was one of the necklaces that Drew had given her some time ago. When she reached the middle of the last set of steps, vibrant grey eyes, wrinkled at the edges by the wide smile that graced her face, looked up in search of her date for the night. Tweaked Dress

Brittany thanked the girl quietly as she complimented her. When the girl pulled her into a hug she gladly returned it. Laughing at what the girl said she shook her head. The Gryffindor girl was a trip and she had definetely fallen for her. She had been so happy to have Beni in the common room, she definetely made it brighter.
"Oh don't worry about it. I'm the same way, you just beat me to the hug." Brittany laughed, putting her hand on her hip.

She had tripped nearly three times from her own nervousness coming up from the common room (which later she would be lucky to find her way back to), wand left there as ordered. Still, she couldn't believe two things, one, dad had come through for her, two, she was even going to this Yule Ball...thing. But, she'd made it now mere feet from the door, and then it really hit her, chances were she'd be the youngest one there, the rest of the first year's shying away from it. Talk about a lonely stand, as she had no...date, or, anything really. She was just, showing up. It was outside the doors she encountered drew, who looked like a nervous wreck, but the reason why was as much her business as anyone else's, it wasn't. Hence she ignored it and peered around the door frame. It seemed so, elegant, and everything she probably didn't belong in yet age wise, but, it was far too late to turn back now. Cautiously she took five or so steps into the hall and near immediately hugged the wall so to speak. She didn't want to go out there, no, sure she was dressed for it, but, she'd stick out like white out on a black shirt. Not because of the yellow dress, or, whatever shade one could call it of yellow, but, well again, youngest plus, all older kids, meant she got noticed. That simple. She bit her lip as she again scanned the hall and frowned. No one her age present yet, probably wouldn't change, but she could hope, from the wall, where she wasn't moving from if she could help it. Dress.

Drew's face broke out into a grin as soon as he saw her come down the steps and he pushed his way past the others to get to her. By the time she had made it to the foot of the stairs, he was standing right there, smiling at her.
"You look amazing," he told her. Of course, it was a well known fact that Alhana could wear a potato sack as a dress and wire twistie ties in her hair and Drew would still think she looked amazing.

Still grinning at Brittany, she happened to spot a particular first year in her same sneaky ways. "I spot a wallflower that I want to pick," Beni told Brittany, and she motioned that she would be back.
Finally drawing near the firstie, she put her hands on her hips. "Up to your sneaky ways, I see. Yeah... I see you," She nodded, but her poker face tranformed to a smile. "Lianna! You are ADORABLE. Come, come with me," she invited, but had her arm around the girl, ready to kidnap her and take her to the sixth years.

Alhana's smile widened, if it was possible, when she stepped onto the ground next to Drew and tugged lightly at his tie, giggling slightly at the blinking nose. "And you look dashing, absolutely dashing." she told him with a firm nod, throwing her arms around his neck and titling his chin towards her so she was able to kiss him.

The older girl had appeared during her lapse in attention, when she scanned along the food table and the faintest of smiles crossed her face, but not long enough for the older girl to notice. Turning her head she found herself rather startled to see Bena, Beni, something like that, mere feet from her and closing. The only thought going through her mind was No...nononononono.... No. attention!
But, that was impossible, as the older girl merely dragged her over anyways. It was, unavoidable, and un-fightable, so, she just rode the wave. The girl's compliments made her feel a tad less nervous, but ADORABLE, that just made her feel five years old. Cute, she could accept, but adorable, well, she had to accept it, as she had no intent of yelling about it.
And so began a night of living hell. Or, one firstie's version of it.
