"Why are you sad?" She asked softly, resting her head on Davis's arm, which was behind her head. Her eyes closed softly and when she opened them she found Davis looking back at her. She could see the sadness pooled in his warm eyes and sighed softly, shifting closer to him slightly without realizing it.
"And it's good that you aren't like other people. It makes you different. More interesting. More fun to be around."

Davis nodded, "Yeah, I can be a blast when I'm in a good mood. Which, I am.. its just.. hard," he said. Davis chewed on his lip and exhaled a long sigh. His couple years here weren't fun ones. He had started to attend right after the death of his sister. Davis of course, had attended a different school for a few years, before coming to Hogwarts. He exhaled another sigh, but this one wasn't irritated and long, but content and short.
He realized that Evie had cuddled up closer to him and decided that she may be trustworthy, but if she wasn't then it wasn't really a big deal. It was part of his history that he could never change, never get back, Denise was gone. Davis licked his lips and looked into Evie's deep eyes, "Well," he began, "A couple of years ago, right before I moved to this school, I had a best friend. This girl and I spent every single hour together, and I mean that. We were always by each other's sides, and having the most fun that we could possibly have. We were crazy, and would do anything for entertainment. If you would dare us to do it, then we would do it," he said, but realized that he was getting to the sad part of the story. "That best friend was my little sister. Yes, I said was. She died, leaving me alone with my parents. We don't have family vacations anymore, we don't even drive to the grocery store anymore. Everything is delivered to my muggle household by random friends of my parents. Denise, that was her name, boarded a train and was heading off for vacation with her friends. She was going to meet them in the next city. The train never made it that far, and was derailed and all sorts of stuff. There were three survivors and my sister was not one of them," he said in a sad tone. Repeating the story made him miss her more, but he had to tell someone, nobody knew his past.

Evie listened while Davis talked, her eyes transfixed on his mouth. Listening to his story made her remember her own past. Although she had not been old enough to remember the death of her father she was now starting to understand what it must have been like for her mother when Michael had died. Slowly she shifted closer to Davis, resting her head on his shoulder. She stayed like that for a long, silent moment before looking up into his eyes.
"I'm sorry." She whispered, her mouth quirking to the side. "That must really suck." She said honestly, not knowing what else to say. And what else could she say, really? She did not know what he was going through, there was no way that she could. So rather than trying to sound as though she was all knowing and all understanding, she decided to simply be honest.
"A lot."

Davis nodded as he looked down at Evie who was gently nestled on his shoulder. He looked into her deep eyes and saw someone that he could trust- hopefully. He wasn't the best at reading people, but hoped that he was right with this one. He sighed, and looked away from her gaze and at the fountain, clenching his jaw as he did. A part of him was angry with his sister. Why did she have to go on that train? Why wouldn't she just let their parents drive her? They would have done it in an instant, in a heartbeat. Then again, another part of him was sad and depressed. He was no longer in denial, but just couldn't come past the hurt. She left him alone, he had no best friend. He missed her more than anything, and wished that it was himself on that train. His sister didn't do anything wrong, but board a train.
Davis exhaled a soft sigh and turned back to face Evie after being in deep thought, "Yeah. I'm just hoping that I can be myself again with people. I haven't spent a lot of time trying to get to know anybody. I mean, its really hard you know," he said, biting his lower lip, "It helps some talking about it, but I just want to get past it. I want to move on with my life, and I haven't been able to do that yet," he stated in a soft, hushed tone, locking his gaze with Evie's.

Evie watched him intently, doing her best to try and read his emotions. It was obvious that he was trying not to feel something, not let himself get caught up in the whirl of emotions. She studied the details of his face, the way he bit his lower lip when he thought, the way his forehead furrowed in concentration, the way his eyes never seemed to focus on anything. Until they met her own.
Jumping to her feet suddenly, she held her hands out to him, notebook laying forgotten on the bench. "Come on." She said excitedly, taking both of his hands in her own and pulling him to his feet with a sudden burst of strength. "Let's go for a walk. My legs are getting all crampy." She smirked and blushed slightly, looking up at him.

Davis agreed and smiled lightly as Evie pulled him up. He helped her slightly. Davis wasn't a large boy, he was rather thin and short. At a small height of five foot five, her barely stood over Evie. By maybe less than an inch. He stood and let go of her hands, but put his arms around her shoulders as they began to walk, around the fountain and then out into the rest of the courtyards, a long stretch of browning land. He turned to face her and gave her a smile.
"I'm really glad that you decided to draw me," he said, "Or we would have never met," he finished, grinning. Davis turned his eyes away from her's and looked straight as they walked. He watched his feet for a little bit, but turned back to face her, and somehow managed to shoot her an embarrassed grin, his lips pursed to the left.

Evie looked up at Davis and smiled again. She couldn't help but smile, she realized quickly as they began to walk. She kept her eyes transfixed on the path in front of them, doing her best not to stair at the boy next to her. A sigh left her lips and she looked up at him just in time to see him grin at her. Her mouth quirked up in a half smile and she giggled softly, looking away before meeting his gaze.
"Me too. You just looked so...intense. I couldn't help but draw you." Her hands found their way into the pocket of her robes and she looked up at the sky. "It's so beautiful out." She half whispered.

Davis looked away and nodded, staring at the sky that was different colors of orange and dark blues. It was nearing night, and he knew it. Davis turned and faced her, smiling, but turned back to look at the sky, unsure of why he'd even smiled in the first place. He tilted his head, feeling a cool breeze hit his neck as he did so. Davis closed his eyes, and looked down at his feet as they walked, pulling his arm away from Evie's shoulders and shoving both hands into his pockets as he walked. He looked back up and smiled at her.
"Yeah, sort of like you," he said, "So beautiful," he finished, shaking his head in an effort to brush bangs out of his face. A small grin appeared on his face as he raised his eyebrows, "That's no pick-up line, its the truth," he said, honestly.

Evie was glad to see Davis smiling. It was quite a change from the way he looked when he was in deep thought. On hearing his words she blushed slightly, looking down and trying to think of something to say. Nothing could come to mind. She shivered slightly as he pulled his arm away and, not ready to lose contact with him completely, she shifted closer so that their arms were brushing together with each step they took.
"Thank you." She whispered.

"No problem," he said, "That's what I do, you know. Go around and compliment random girls that I meet," he joked, and added in a soft chuckle. Davis raised his eyebrows as they walked, and felt a sigh rise from his throat, and exhaled quietly. He turned and looked at her, raising his eyebrows and smiling. Davis licked his lips as they reached a tree that marked close to the end of the courtyards.
"Do you want to sit down for a while," he asked, "Its so hard to walk and talk at the same time," he added in, raising his eyebrows and giving her a pleading smile.

Evie thought for a second. He was right, it was kind of difficult to walk and talk at the same time. Slowly she nodded and pointed to the tree, walking towards it. When she reached the trunk she sat slowly, leaning back against the tree and patting the ground next to her with a shy smile.
"Where did you go to school before coming to Hogwarts?"

Davis happily took a seat next to Evie. He felt Evie's arm close to his as he sat down, and enjoyed the presence of her. He leaned his head back against the tree. His life was so complicated, but moments like this were ones that enjoyed the most, getting to know someone. And really getting to know them, "Well, my first year I was tutored in the United States by someone that I somehow got in touch with. My second and third years I went to this really small school in Italy. In the middle of my third year was when we moved to the UK, and when my sister died," he said, "Also when I started Hogwarts, it was only for half a year, but I was still here," he said, "And here is where I have been ever since."
He smiled and turned to her, "So how about you? Where did you go before here, Miss Evalyn?" he asked, laughing slightly at the sound of her ninety-year-old name.

Evie sighed, resting the back of her head against the tree and taking a deep breath. Where did she come from? Was she ready to share the entire story? With Davis? Of course.
"It's kind of a long story." She began. "Mum is a muggle, Dad was a Wizard. He died in a car crash when I was a baby, so it's always been me and mum. I was raised a muggle. When I turned eleven all sorts of things started happening and I got my first letter from Hogwarts. Mum wrote them back, explaining that if I was going to be a witch, I would learn from home. So she found an old friend of my father's to tutor me. Accept that he was crazy. All the things I learned with him aren't helping me here at all. He didn't like to use wands with magic, and he had me memorize all of these old books that really don't have anything to do with what we're learning now. Right before this term me mum decided that it was time I go to a proper school, and so she sent me off here. That was only a few weeks ago."
Taking a deep breath, Evie smiled nervously up at Davis. "And I can't believe you called me Evalyn."

"Awh, I was just playing with you," he said, teasingly wrapping his arm around her shoulders and tugging her tightly towards himself. "Yeah, that's a pretty different past, but hey, if everyone was the same, then we wouldn't be ourselves, right?" he asked, raising an eyebrow but didn't wait for a response. Davis shrugged the question off, it was more like a statement rather than a question. He stole his eyes away from hers and looked up at the sun that was still disappearing from the day. His chocolate eyes turned back to her bright blue ones as he grinned, trying not to gaze. That never led to good things, but he did look into her eyes, with a happy grin on his face. It was so confusing how he wasn't able to grin or smile for such a long time, yet when she came along, everything changed, and a smile was clearly visible on his face, and a happy one at that- no fakes.

Evie laughed and shoved Davis lightly. "You better have just been kidding. I don't want very many people knowing my full name. I like to keep things short and to the point, like me. Oh, and don't forget cute." She teased, laughing again. While her mouth could not stop moving, her mind was doing everything in it's power to shut her up. It had been a while since she had felt so at ease with someone and she couldn't help but laugh around Davis. Closing her eyes, she sighed before looking up at the sky again. "It's getting late." She whispered.
