Hogsmeade was where memories were made in his years, like when Dabbage almost put Zonko's up in flames, or McCreary and Flitborn tried to play quidditch in the streets. Those were good times indeed, dangerous, but good none the less. And besides, in those times when was anywhere NOT dangerous?
Strolling up the street he took a peer inside both the Hogshead and the Three Broomsticks. He wasn't surprised to still see Rosemerta, even after that problem a few years back. Shrugging his shoulders he rounded a corner only to crash into another form.
"So so sorry, should have been watching. Are you alright?" He questioned having not yet even looked at whom he hit.

"Ow!" Declared a small child, who appeared to be no more than seven or eight years old, as she tumbled to the ground. Jumping nimbly to her feet, she eyed the man who had knocked her over with both apprehension and curiosity.
"Mama says to always look where you're going," the little girl informed Shaw, now absentmindedly twirling a golden lock of hair around a tiny index finger. "Didn't your mama tell you that?"
The experience, Emily decided as she waited for Shaw to answer, even if it was a polyjuice-induced transformation, was not pleasant. She was not fond of children, and playing one, and a chipper eight year old at that, was not high on her To-Do list. It was a necessary evil, she realized, but made a mental note to assign any future tasks that cinluded masquerading as a small child to Sienna.

(Well, won't this be interesting. Same AIM address?)
As much as he wanted to come back with some remark about rudeness his rationality took the child's age into account and did its best to put her questioning and rude tone to the back of his mind. Justifiably, all children's mouths at the age before him were as such, just few adults tended to remember such.
Approaching the girl's level knowing full well what a height difference could do to ones ability to speak. "My mother, little one, taught me many things, and yes that was among them. But everyone forgets to dot hings now and then." Robert responded calmly, or as calm as one could when one is verbally slapped in the face.

(You got pwned by an 8 year old ) "I'm not little!" The child declared, standing up to her full height (and still not managing to come and higher than Shaw's chest.) "Mama says I'm growing up real fast. I'm going to go to Hogwarts soon." "My name is Katie," she said suddenly, extending her hand politely like the grownups do, as if it were the most natural thing to do. The fact that the statement had nothing to do with anything the two had been discussing (if their discourse could even be called a discussion) did not seem to be apparent to the little girl.

(Hush! AIM me, as, mines crap and I seem to keep losing people off my buddy list at random >.<)
Persistent temper this one has... Thought Robert as he managed a small chuckle. "Didn't your mother ever teach you not to talk to strangers?" Robert questioned, deciding to throw a tad bit of the girl's attitude back at her.
Not giving her a chance to respond, much. He shook her hand lightly with his own and said "Professor Shaw. Its a pleasure to meet you."

"Oh," the little girl replied, looking dejected when Shaw said his name. "Mama always said to not talk to strangers, but--" At this point her lower lip started trembling, and she sniffled in an attempt not to cry.
"I thought you might have been my Daddy."

(Well, I can see your enjoying this.)
"Well, I'm clearly not your father, however, might I help you find him?" Robert questioned in concern. This explained some of the girl's attitude. A child at this one's age without her; guardian, anywhere to be found certainly couldn't go left alone.
So much for seeing old sights, why did she have to bump into him, why not someone behind him? But, what was past was past and he couldn't change that, but he could help try and make this girl's life a little better for a few minutes, hours...however long it dragged on.

(Oh, I am.)
At this, the little girl emitted a sound that was halfway between a sob and a wail. A pair of stout, matronly women passing by turned to glare at the professor, wondering exactly what he had done to make such a sweet little girl cry.
'Katie' clumsily brushed a tear off her cheek. "When I was little (because obviously now, at eight years old, she was not little anymore) some people called the Deaf Eaters or something took my daddy and did something bad to him. Mama say," the girl hiccuped, "that he isn't coming home."

( ... )
"And your mother child, where is she?" He questioned, trying not to let his composure falter at those two words. It was a known fact that not all of the Death Eaters had been captured initially.
Yes, some were killed, others captured int he weeks following, but some were still lose, and that in itself frightened Shaw. He was a botanist not an auror, there was a difference, a big one.

'Katie' mumbled something that sounded like "work". She seemed to regain her composure somewhat, although she did sniffle loudly, then look pointedly at Shaw as if wondering why he was just standing there.
"You gotta hanky?" She asked, her sniffling becoming more pronounced.

Mother's at work, daughter's roaming the street, some parental eye... Robert thought distastefully as he nodded and pulled indeed, a dry 'kerchief from his pocket.
Offering it to the girl, a small feeling inside him telling him that something wasn't right, he kept pressing. "Your mother, where does she work?" He questioned as he squatted down to the girl's level.

'Katie' snatched the handkerchief, dabbing at her dripping eyes and nose. Once that was taken care of, she turned her attention back to the man before her. (Emily was actually becoming rather fond of the role she was playing; the ability to be as rude, uncouth and just plain annoying was strangely liberating. Not that she'd trade in her own childhood for that of a street urchin's, of course.)
"I dunno," she muttered, her words somewhat muffled by the handkerchief. She shrugged, then pointed vaguely down a long street. "Maybe that way?"

Whats wrong? Whats the missing link here that makes me feel uncomfortable with this situation. Really, uncomfortable? Robert thought as he gave a small nod to the girl. "Alright then, so we'll start up that way, let me know if anything looks familiar." He stated, his eyes showing both concern for the girl, and seriousness towards the situation.
And yet, knew right when he said that statement, he'd worded it wrong.

The child grasped Shaw's hand in her own tiny one, and began walking up the road, her previous tears forgotten. The handkerchief, however, was still clutched tightly in her other fist.
"This is the Three Broomsticks," she said as they passed by the door. Her tone was serious, as if she was truly contemplating Shaw's instructions. "And that there is Honeydukes. I like Honeydukes. Sometimes Mama buys me a chocolate frog if I've been good."

(You took it exactly like I knew you would. ) At first he was ready to tell the girl to simply be quiet, but rationally realized right afterwords that she wouldn't understand what he had indeed meant. If walking up this street, with a child he didn't know helped his day go by and her get back with her family where she belonged, so be it. "OK, do you know where your mom works, as in the name of the place where she works?" He asked in an attempt to narrow down their search.
