"Uh? what?" Franco he said supressing a laugh while swallowed a bunch of M&Ms all together, coughing slightly but not choking this time "The choke was real, it wasn't a fake! I thought you of all people in the world could recognize a real choke and a fake!" the boy just chortled while looked around the bed, they were running out Drew's stash of candies.
Franco got out the bed and bended under the bed as thought that maybe some of the packs could have fallen down because they had been jumping and trashing on the bed. And then was when he noticed that he was iluminating under the bed like a human red lamp.
"Whoahh! cool!!!" he said surprised and at the same time amused "I thought you said these things had not charms!? haha! pretty funny Drew!" Franco called out, rolling his eyes as thought Drew had just gave him a joke candy or something of that sort while looked interested at his own hand, turning it and playing it around using it to see around under the bed.

Drew knew that the coughing had been real, but he didn't appreciate the fact that Franco kept on with the color-changing tease, especially since he had asked him to cut it out. Drew usually didn't mind a good joke, but the funny part was over and now the red glow was just creepy.
"Yeah, funny for you," Drew told the other boy, getting mad that Franco was still red and pretending it was Drew's doing. Like Muggle candies could do that to someone. Franco was an idiot to think he would fall for that. "Give it up. The joke's over. Or at very least, turn green or something."

Franco raised his head looking at Drew for a second, perplex for a second as found an angry Drew, which was something unusual. In normal circumstances Franco's face would have drained of color as realized that this was not one of Drew's jokes, but quiet the contrary his face became brighter.
"I am not doing this" he said still in a shocked low voice "a-aren't you doing this? really?" he asked just hopping Drew would say yes, he could handle Drew making a joke of him but if this was not Drew's the only other explanation on his head was that he was again becoming sick which scared him. After beeing so sick for weeks, this was just alarming thinking in the pain, the weakness and all the time he had thought he would really die.
The boy dropped the candies and ran to the bathroom to have a better look of his situation on the mirror.

Franco sounded pretty serious and Drew sure didn't have anything to do with the color changing. Maybe the other boy was still playing a trick, but the fact that he had dropped perfectly good candies was evidence that this was for real. In cases like this, there was only one thing to do. Whether Franco was really sick, or if he was really playing a stupid joke, one thing would solve the problem quickly.
Running out to the hall and hanging over the side of the railing, Drew bellowed at the top of his lungs, "MOM!"

Franco gasped as heard Drew calling his mom. Was he insane! The boy ran out the bathroom and looked at the younger one in horror. They would be in troubles for sure!
"Are you crazy! She will get mad!" he hissed while looked around at the little candies mess around the floor, at the bed and at himself, and he could not understand how come Drew had the brilliant idea of call his mom.
"You can't tell her. We... we have to hide everything!" he just said rather desperate as at his point of view it was the stupidest idea of all. He could just imagine Mrs. Thornton reacting the same way his uncle would.

"MOMMMMM!" Drew yelled again, leaning so far over the railing that his feet left the floor. If Franco didn't want his mom coming up, that just reaffirmed that the other boy was faking and afraid of getting in trouble.
"Merlin's Ghost, Drew! What are you screaming about?" Lolly Thornton scolded, wiping her hands and coming to the bottom of the staircase.
"MOM! You have to come up and see Franco! He's like all red and he won't cut it out!" Drew cried out, knowing that his mom would fix the problem whether Franco was faking or not.
Lolly's face turned to concern and ran up the stairs, bypassing her son on the landing to go into the boy's bedroom. She saw Franco scrambling to get the candies hidden, but that was the least of her worries. The boy was as red as a siren.
"Franco, what happened?" she asked, wondering if the boys had gotten into her potion ingredients or had been fooling around with charms they didn't know about.

He gasped at the sight of the woman and swallowed hard before answer, he knew he was just been caught in the scene of crime with some candies still showing around the floor. He was just afraid to have gotten both of them in troubles, though he could not still understand why on earth Drew had to call his mom.
"Nothing!... ermm..." he started but then words failed as he realized it was just obvious what they had been doing, there was no way to hide it now and the boy sighed just guessing what was about to happen. But then he realized she was more concerned about his color than anything else and again just then he realized how bad his condition could be. It was obvious for the look of the woman that this was not one of Drew's jokes and probably something to do with his previous illness.
"Am I dying again?" he asked and started crying.

"No, now don't start that. You aren't dying," Lolly tried to comfort the boy, instinctually feeling his forehead. Even if the boy really was dying, it would do no good to actually tell him. Drew might not ever forgive her for the lie, but she'd cross that bridge if she got there.
"You guys were eating junk," she stated, looking at the scattered candies and the cupcake wrappers that littered the floor. All of the evidence pointed to maybe a belly-ache, but Lolly had never seen anything like what Franco was doing. She looked over at her son who looked like he was ready to join Franco in the melt-down. Getting mad at the boys wouldn't solve anything so she spoke as calmly as possible. "What happened?"
"Nothing! We weren't doing anything!" Drew cried out, his standard first response to any sort of accusation. His mother waited patiently knowing that denial was always quickly followed by a litany of facts in the case. "We were just playing around, and I had some Muggle candy, and we were hungry so we just were having a snack, but we didn't eat that many, and Franco never had M&Ms before and he likes chocolate, but then he turned all red and I thought he was faking and he thought I was playing a trick, and that's why... that's why I called for you..." And with that, Drew was crying as well, worried his friend really was going to die.
"All you had were the candies?" Lolly asked, knowing her son wouldn't flat out lie, but might fail to mention they had been playing with charms illegally.
Drew nodded back and looked at Franco for back up. All they had eaten were the candies. "And Ding-dongs..." he added, just to be clear that it was only the junk that was still lying around.
"Franco, this hasn't ever happened before?" Lolly asked, confident the house guest wasn't playing a game. The boy seemed much to upset to have this all be a joke. "How about we go downstairs. Let me owl Aunt Jeannie and see what she says." If worse came to worse, her sister-in-law was a Floo away and could see the boy for herself.

The kid just sobbed looking at mother and son discussing about what they had been doing, nodding his head confirming everything Drew was saying, even if he was not sure if Drew was naming all the candies, he did not know them by name but by taste now. He was not all convinced that he was no dying but so far he did not feel as sick as he had been days ago, so that was somehow conforting.
Franco wiped the tears out and shook his head as Mrs. Thornton asked him if that had happened before, he felt the guilt pressing his throat right now. And without dare to look at the woman he just obeyed whatever she told him to do. The boy just stood up and followed her down the stairs.

Drew wiped his face with the back of his hand, deciding that there was no reason to bawl like a baby because his mom would take care of it. Aunt Jeannie was a healer and her husband was a Muggle doctor, so Drew was confident that if his mother didn't know the answer, they would for sure. He started to follow his mom down the stairs when she turned and pointed to the mess.
"Bring all of the candy, Drew," she told him and her face made it clear that she was not happy he had stashed all of that junk. "And the Ding-dongs... and whatever else you have up here. If I find it tomorrow, you're going to be in it deep mister."
Drew nodded back and gathered everything, including the Oreos he had forgotten to mention as well as the chocolate frogs and Droobles he had hidden in his desk drawer. By the time he made it down to the kitchen, his mother was finishing up her note and attaching it to the family owl. Very carefully, Drew put all of the treats on the counter and took a seat at the table. He folded his arms on top and rested his head, feeling miserable about making Franco sick again.

Franco looked down at the floor all the way to the kitchen, wiping his face as if he were being escorted to the electric chair room, he did not feel like defend himself or Drew, not argue with anybody but just sat where he was told and waited what seemed to him an eternity. The boy looked at his shiny read hands, twitching them nervously, rubbing his fingers like wishing that would make them normal again, wondering if he would stay like this forever or maybe he would die any second.
The sound of Drew entering the kitchen made him raise his head for a second to look at his friend, he thought his look of fear mirrored his s their eyes met, but he did not feel like saying anything comforting to Drew or to himself.

The evidence of their wrong-doing laid out before them, Drew sniffled along with his partner in crime. Lolly sent Mika out the window and once more put a hand on Franco's forehead. It was slightly warm, but nothing to warrent concern if it weren't for the boy's color. Just as a precaution, she felt Drew's forehead as well, but he wasn't running a fever either.
The phone rang and Lolly left the boys to answer it. Drew kept his head down, but turned his head and looked over at Franco. "I'm sorry I got you busted," he told his buddy. Off to the side, he could hear his mom and could tell it was Aunt Jeannie on the other end.
"Bright red, like a siren..." Drew's mom was saying, looking over at the boys as she spoke. Every so often she'd check one of their foreheads. "No he's fine... no... no, I checked that.... they both say they weren't... Yes, he's full Wizard... Oh... Oh?... Oh!... Number five? ... I've heard of it... No, I've never heard of that!... Really?... Really!... Will you send it back with Mika?... Alright then... Oh, she didn't!... She did?... such a clever girl!..."
Drew wasn't following much, hearing only half of the conversation, but he had a feeling his mother wasn't talking about Franco's situation anymore.
"Okay then. I see Mika coming. Give everyone my love... yes, I'll call if I need to. Thanks Jeannie!" Drew's mom was saying and through the window he could see the Thornton's owl flying towards the house.
"Franco, you've never had Muggle sweets before today?" Lolly Thornton asked as she hung up the phone. "Aunt Jeannie says it sounds like an allergic reaction to her."

Franco felt quiet like swimming in dreams, and not because he felt ill or something, but he was so worried about the situation that could not help imagine over and over the different possibilities, all of them with a bad ending... They boy just half heard what Drew told him, but he nodded anyway, whatever he was agreeing for did not matter much.
Then as he heard Drew's mom at the phone, he also tried to catch on what the woman was saying at the phone, hoping to catch some comforting word that could made him believe he really was not to die... but at some point he got lost of what she was saying, as if she were not talking about him, at least he had not a clue what he had to do with 'Number 5?' Five what!
At last the woman addressed back to him and he raised his head eagerly for some good news.
"No" he answered Mrs. Thornton shaking his head at once then giving a glance at Drew as if the other boy could confirm that fact, then realized it was stupid look for Drew's support at this one, Drew had not way to know it. "So... so I am not..." he thought for a second that say 'i am not going to die?' sounded too dramatic and thought better "will this go off?" he asked finally.

"Eventually," Mrs. Thornton answered with a kind smile as the owl came in and she took the message from its leg. "Drew's aunt is a healer, but she knows a bit about Muggle medicine too. Muggles put a lot of different things in their candies and she said that sometimes the artificial coloring can cause bad reactions."
Lolly glanced at the note, smiled and went to one of the cupboards. When she opened it, it was full of Tupperware and mixing bowls. With a quick shake of her head, she closed it again only to reopen it on the other side. This time, among other things, there was a cauldron which she pulled out and placed on the stove.
"Aunt Lolly sent a potion recipe that will help some," she said, holding up the bit of parchment to show the boys. Drew perked up a little at its sight, glad something could be done. Lolly started pulling out ingredients and lining them up on the counter. She turned to the other boy and raised an eyebrow. "Now, is there anything else that you know you're allergic to?"

After listen what the woman was saying he still kept silence for some seconds, thinking about her question but yet he had not idea, till then he thought he had any kind of allergies and know it happen that he had one.
"I... I dunno" he shrugged "I, I don't use to eat muggle things..." he clarified looking suspiciously at the woman's doings wondering if that recipe would be safe. He could not forget the fact that a muggle substance had caused this and was afraid that he could be allergic to all muggle substances not only candies.
He rubbed his forehead as felt rather warmer and puffy... just knowing that he was having an allergy made him think on rush, fever, hard breathing... and he could not help but think he was getting those symphtoms too.
