"Which is probably why you didn't know about it," Mrs. Thornton answered with a kind little tease in her smile. She knew the boys were both slightly freaked out and she wanted to calm them down just a little bit. "And why we aren't going to fix you up the Muggle way, okay?"
Drew perked up when his mother started pulling out potion ingredients. His mom was really good at brewing and if Aunt Jeannie had given her the recipe, it would be doubly good. He swiped his hand across his nose and gave a loud sniff. "Can I help?"
Lolly nodded and pointed to the sink. "Wash up and then grab the hellebore, okay?" she told her son before feeling Franco's forehead again and moving her hand down to the side of his neck to check his glands. He was breathing funny, but wasn't unusually warm and didn't feel puffy.

Franco let the woman check on him as he really was feeling nervous wondering if he was getting any worse, but the look of the woman after the quick checking calmed him a little bit. She did not looked worried enough to freak out.
Then silently looked at the both of them working on the potion. He did not dare to offer his help too though, he was not sure if the woman would allow him in first place, his uncle for sure would have insulted him out the place which made him also believe that he would screw it up if he tried to help, he knew he was lousy at potions, it was better just watch. But now that he knew he was not to die he felt kind of curious and kept watching them closely looking at Drew's doings more thant Mrs. Thorton's doings indeed, it felt funny see his friend making up a potion for his health.

Drew washed his hands at the kitchen sink, wiping them off on the back of his pants which weren't all that dirty. There was some dust on his knees from the secret passages, but his back pockets were perfectly fine.
He opened the spice cabinet and stood on his toes to reach the hellebore before bringing it to his mom. As he put it on the counter, she handed him a spoon. "Keep stirring," she told him as she started putting in ingredients. Every so often the potion would change colors, or she'd tell him to stir in the other direction, and at one point, she looked over at Franco who was still sitting nearby. "Franco, dear. Do you still have some fo the candies you ate? The M&Ms?"

The boy stood up at once to search into his pockets, turning them inside out but could not find any at first. He was about to shake his head in answer at Mrs. Thornton question but then remembered the hidden pockets that only he knew they existed (or at least he thought he was the only one who knew about them), and some M&Ms fall over the floor while he tried to grab them, along with some oreos. At that point he did not care or was aware of that he had just show them those secret places in his pants.
"Here!" he said placing the ones he had in his hands on the table and then bending down after the ones that had fallen on the floor "mmm... I just have those..." he said as emptied his pocket.

Mrs. Thornton bit on her lip as she took the candies from Franco. She had expected the boy to get a few from the bags Drew had put on the counter, and thought it was funny the boy had handed her lint-covered pieces from his pocket instead. She wanted to laugh, but didn't want the boy to think she was making fun of him when she found it quite endearing.
"Thank you, Franco. These will do fine," she told the boy, finding the cleanest of the bunch and plopping them into the cauldron.
"Mom! But how does that work if he's allergic?" Drew cried out, slightly panicked.
"The potion counteracts the final ingredient," Lolly answered, looking at the paper to check it over. "So really, we could use this for a chocolate reaction too, huh?"
The cauldron was bubbling, and Drew's mom took over the spoon and gave it a final stir before taking it off of the heat. "Okay, boys," she said, looking at the two. "It's got to sit for a couple of hours. Do you think you can handle being red a little longer?"

Franco looked at Mrs. Thornton setting the last ingredients into the potion with some curiosity, wondering how bad that would taste... with the add of those candies it could not taste that bad, could it? It did not look tasty at all though.
But then the woman addressing to him again brought him back to reality. He shook his head silently still not looking at the woman straight at the eye.
"I am... I am sorry, Mrs. Thornton..." he said and because he was still all bright red there were no way to know if he was blushing or not but he hoped she would not get too mad at them.

"Sorry for what, Franco?" Mrs. Thornton asked kindly, looking at the boy. "The only thing to be sorry for is spoiling your appettite by eating so much junk... but I can hardly blame you for that being a guest in our house." She eyed her son who definitely knew better. Drew, meanwhile, pretended to be very interested in the dishtowels that hung off the oven door.
Of course, he couldn't avoid his mother's eyes for long, boring as they did into the back of his neck. "I'm sorry mom. We shouldn't have eaten the junk. I'm sorry, Franco for getting you in trouble."

"I thought it was a good idea" he said shrugging knowing that nobody forced him to eat anything and not that Drew would have suggested it if he had not told him he wanted candies. Well... probably Drew would have suggested in anyway but the idea was not his at least in this ocassion. On the other hand, after all Drew had helped him alot, specially now that he was at his home, it would not be right to let him hold the blame and the consequences even if the idea would have been his. On his point of view, his friend just did it to make him feel better.
Franco hesitated for a second still looking guilty not for ruining their appetite only but mostly because what could happen to Drew because of him.
"You... you won't hit him? will you?..." he said hesitantly "I mean... I am not saying you have not right..." he clarified just to make sure the woman would not think he was contradicting her or maybe questioning her authority "I just say... it is not his fault"

Drew's mother got very quiet and just looked back at the boy for a moment. "No, Franco. No one's getting hit here," she answered calmly. She wasn't happy that the boys had eaten the candy, but she definitely wasn't going to hit anyone for it. It bothered her that Franco thought she might though. It was clear he was used to punishments like that.
"Why don't you guys go play while we're waiting for the potion," she suggested. "Just try not to get too hyper and please... no more junk, okay? If you guys are hungry, we'll find something better to eat."
Drew watched the exchange, not quite sure why Franco thought his mom would hit him for spoiling his appitite. The worst he had ever gotten for doing something like that was skipping dessert or going to bed early.
"Come on Franco! We can go play Nintendo!" he suggested, looking at his mom to see if that was okay. She nodded back and Drew grabbed Franco's arm to pull the other boy upstairs to the playroom.

He looked uncertain at the woman as her idea of a punishment do not match his at all. Indeed she was being quiet too nice to believe that her attitud was a normal attitud. However Drew did not look any worry about that, not in the slightest and when he suggested to play Nintendo and his mom seemed to agree... that was the most strange part of all. They disobeyed her and it seemed that their punishmet would be play nintendo.
"... OK..." he said rather uncertain as let Drew pull him upstairs, giving furtive glances at the woman on his way up just wondering what she was really up to. THAT could not be all? She was planning something for sure, maybe something worse than a physical punishment, those were the worst...

Drew ran up the stairs, whipped around the bannister at the top and into the playroom that he and his sister shared. Most of the toys from when they were younger had been given away to charity or to their younger cousins, but a few things still lined the shelves and filled the cupboards that were against the wall. Every so often the Thorntons would take down a board game, or Drew might pull out his Legos, but for the most part the toys stayed on the shelf. Part of it was they were at Hogwarts now, but it was also the fact that they were growing up.
Drew had pulled out the Nintendo as well as the Playstation that first day Franco had been at their house. Even though the boy had slept most of the time at first, Drew knew his friend liked Muggle things and had shared the games with Franco as soon as the Peruvian boy was feeling up to it.
Drew knelt by the games, sorting through them and trying to decided which to play when he came up with another option. "You know what else we could do?" he asked, lowering his voice as he looked over at his bright red friend.

It was easy to get Franco's mind busy specially if you showed him muggle artifacts, no matter how simple they could be, that would keep him interested for hours. And the video games, being so complicate artifacts for him and full of graphics, still caught his attention like in the first time.
The boy knelt next to his friend while checked the disks and cassettes, careful not to stick his fingers in or scratch the disks (for some reason Drew got mad the first time he tried to find out where those images were hidings in those pieces of plastic), reading the covers and trying to decide which one to try this time.
"What?" he said distractedly not really too interested in any other suggestion of fun, play these games were fun enough for him.

As Franco shuffled through the games, Drew ran to the door, peeked out into the hall and then came back into the playroom, lowering his voice as he spoke to Franco.
"Allegra will be home from the library soon," he whispered with an gleefully evil smile on his face. "We could hide under her bed and really scare her good with you all red and glowey like that!" They'd probably get busted for goofing off again, but it would be so worth it to hear Allegra scream.

If there was something that could take his attention apart from muggles games was Drew's ideas of fun. As the younger boy spoke, Franco could not help imagine the whole scene and laughing at it, all the previous problem with Mrs. Thornton and the fact that he actually was sick and having an allergy reaction forgotten.
"Yeah! why not!" he said laughing "She will think I am a demon or something! Should I dye my hair red? That might be more shocking..." he suggested as at once turned his hair pure red "What do you think! good?" he said as at once dropped the disks and went to inspect his image on the mirror.

Drew thought it was absolutely brilliant and wondered why they had never thought of doing this particular trick at school. Instead of scaring just one girl, they could get the whole house. Just imagining the shrieking made Drew smile as he stood next to Franco and looked in the mirror as well.
"Oooo! Can you make your eyes some freaky color too?" Drew asked excitedly. "And maybe do something to your ears to make them funny looking too?"
