"Good, 'cause I ain't changing," Drew answered with a wide grin. There had been a time, not too long ago that he would have taken offense to being called perfect, but he had gotten used to the idea that she meant perfect for her. He thought Felicity was perfect too, but he wouldn't want her to be perfectly perfect.
"You think I can kidnap you for your birthday maybe?" he asked, thinking that between Hogsmeade outings and vacations, he'd be able to see her maybe every other month. He thought he might be able to get a few more days in there if he tried. "Valentine's?"

"Good, I don't want you too," she told him with a grin as large as his. He was the most interesting, intriguing, amazing and everything else good boy she knew. Everything about him made her feel warm and cozy, and it still didn't match the feel of his touch. His touch told her everything she ever really thought she'd need to know, the reason why she was so comfortable with him, no matter what, even if she did tense now and then. Drew was everything to her and she wanted him to know it.
"I don't know," she answered him. "I mean, Raynor probably wouldn't allow it." Raynor didn't like Felicity, she was confident of that, and why would she let Felicity have a little bit of happiness? "I hope so, we might have a Hogsmeade trip around my birthday. That would make it easier, right?" But then he threw in Valentine's Day and she felt her heart break. Would she be able to get away with anything? With seeing him?

A couple of Hogsmeade trips, summer, spring, and winter breaks were all he could count on, and even that wasn't any sort of guarantee. He didn't even want to think about the fact that Aurors didn't work bankers' hours. Hogwarts might have a weekend in town but he might very well have to work.
He had been hoping on a chance that Raynor would give them permission for even one extra outing, but the sound of his girlfriend's voice intensified his own doubts about the possibility. There had been a time where he would have just gone into the woman's office and asked her, but lately, he didn't think he could.
"Spring break is near your birthday... and winter break is just a couple of weeks after mine." Sometimes there was a Hogsmeade trip around Valentines Day, but not every year. "I could try to talk to Raynor about it..." he said, but he didn't sound very confident about it.

The feeling in the atmosphere was changing, had changed, and it was becoming uncomfortable. Yes, she knew it was something they had to talk about, be open about, but the more they spoke about it, the more real it became. He wasn't going to be there when she bordered the train the next year, he wouldn't be at the Ravenclaw table when she entered the Great Hall, he wouldn't attend her classes, nor would he be there to hold her when she needed him to. Consoling herself with letters, pictures, and his sweatshirt was what she was going to have to resort to, and she knew it, but didn't want to face the fact of how close time was winding down.
"But it's not the same. I mean, it's near them, but not the same. And we won't have Halloween either." She loved spending Halloween with him the last two years, or rather the last one and the year before she loved spending time with him after the dance and everything. It was when he first kissed her.
At least they'd get to spend their anniversary together, just after Christmas. When he suggested going to Raynor, she glanced at him and wondered if he actually would. "That's your choice Drew. I would like it if we could do it, but you don't have to talk to her about it." She knew he would want to just so they could get together and see one another, but she didn't want him to think he had to.

If it had been skipping Valentines Day that broke her heart, it was the mention of missing Halloween together that broke his. It might not have been the day they counted as their official anniversary, but it was a special day to him anyway. He had kissed her for the first time that day and there had just been something so magical about it, he couldn't imagine not seeing her on that day.
He bit on his lip and sighed heavily, looking at the gray sky as he did some quick figures. Halloween had been on a Friday, so the next year it would be on a Saturday. Just maybe, he could make it work.
"I'll ask Raynor for permission," he told her, determined to at least try. He wasn't sure how it would go, but he had to at least ask. "I don't think she trusts me much, but I'll do my very best. I promise."

When his eyes left her face, the blonde knew things weren't going to be easy. Not when she was so used to seeing him every day, at least once a day, even if it was just in brief passing, she was used to it. With as much time as she spent with him, he'd become more than just her boyfriend and good friend, he was one of her best friends. Celina was her best friend at Hogwarts, there was no doubt in Felicity's mind about that, but Drew was her other best friend. Losing a best friend and a boyfriend at the same time was going to be hard, not that she didn't think she couldn't do it, but she also knew how lonely she was going to be.
"Would she really let me out because of a personal holiday?" she asked him, concerned how it would happen. If it was something more than just an anniversary, or spending time with a person you loved deeply, would that horrid woman understand? She had given up her own family, sent them away forever, would she know anything about love and how they felt? And worse, would she dare to care?
Not trusting Drew though, Felicity wrinkled her nose a little at that statement. Why was it adults seemed not to trust him? Her dad, Jacob, Raynor. No, the list wasn't horribly large, but at the same time there were a number of people to be listed on it as well. Nodding her head when he made his promise, she wondered if there was the slightest possibility it really could and would happen, that she'd be allowed to see Drew on special days; it sure would make things easier.

He had already promised to write her over the next year, and even if he was able to send her an owl every day, it still wouldn't take the place of seeing her as often as he had gotten used to: classes, hallways, meals, library, weekends. Even if they didn't get to spend much time alone, Drew had was accustomed to seeing her smile, holding her hand, and hearing her voice every day. Come September, he'd be lucky to have that once a month.
"I don't know," he said honestly, but maybe, just maybe, he could figure something out. He could talk to Raynor and ask... no, he'd beg if he had to... for just a few days to steal Felicity away. Drew knew he wouldn't have any say as to his first assignments, and of course, he'd be doing the required training, but he could ask his supervisors to be stationed at Hogsmeade. He thought he might be able to argue his recent graduation would be an asset to patroling that particular location. "I don't know... I'll figure it out."
With a deep sigh, he looked back at her and gave her a small smile. He was determined to do everything he could to make sure he saw her over the school year. He'd figure out how to make it right.
"You and me. I'm going to do everything I can, but even if we don't get to see each other, that's not going to change you and me, right?" he asked, already knowing the answer and confirming that she did as well. "This is important. This is real. If we don't want it to stop us, we won't let it."

His promise that he'd figure it out, something at least, gave her a little bit of hope. Though she wasn't about to hold her breath over it. Raynor despised Felicity, she knew that, well, thought she did and it wouldn't surprise her if she gave Drew a flat answer of "no". But the promise he'd try gave her great hope for what she doubted was possible. Why would Raynor say yes? How many couples had to suffer through separation due to graduation of one and not the other? Too many, she was sure was the answer, but she didn't want to be one of them. At least not one whose relationship was destroyed because of it.
Nodding her head in agreement, she knew that if they wanted this to keep, then they had to work for it. It was going to be really difficult, but she was willing to put forth the effort, and she knew he was too. "It is important," she pipped in, squeezing his hand. "Because I don't want something stupid to stop us from being together if that's what we both want. And we do, so we shouldn't let it get to us, right? I mean, we'll have all the regular holidays, and if dad is all right with it, we'll be able to see one another during those, too. And then, after next year, we can be together, right?"
But again, that depended on where she went, what she did, after Hogwarts.

If it came too easy, it probably wasn't worth having. Being with Felicity was definitely something Drew was willing to work for and if it got hard to do, it just meant he would need to work harder. He would figure something out so that they could see each other and if it didn't happen, he'd keep thinking until he came up with something else.
"We're not going to let something stupid like a few miles get to us," he agreed. Yes, they had breaks and what ever plan he came up with to see her in between. "It's just one year. We can manage it like that for one year, easy."

"We can," she confirmed, though her heart ached all ready. Felicity knew she was going to miss him, that beautiful face of his, and his pretty blue eyes. Lots and lots of pictures were going to be snapped sooner or later, just because she was going to need them to get through things. Using Drew's hand to help her, she pulled herself forward to lay down on him again. She felt the need to be closer to him, and she waned to be there with him.
"Drew," she whispered, getting close to his ear. "I love you so much." A simple sentence but one that meant so much to her. Everything about him was so wonderful, beyond that she liked telling him how she felt.

He definitely wasn't looking forward to it and the thought of being away from her bothered him more than he could even describe. But seeing her looking so sad made him feel like he had to be strong and confident that they could get through it.
She snuggled down into him again and he wrapped his arms around her, stroking her hair and enjoying the warmth of her being so close. "I love you too," he whispered back meaaning the words more than he ever had before.
