Those three words sounded so sweet to him and he wasn't exactly sure why. Maybe it just confirmed that she was feeling exactly the way he was. He missed that adorable giggle, those bright brown eyes, and every freckle on her nose. He missed holding her close and smelling her hair, and most of all, he missed feeling safe when he was with her. He still didn't understand that last one himself, but it was the only way he could come close to describing that particular feeling. When he was with her, he was sure nothing could go wrong.
"I miss you too," he told her, leaning his forehead against the bars just to be a little closer to her. "The good news is we only have 21 more days until you guys have a Hogsmeade trip, right?"

A sad laughter gurgled through her throat at the mention of how long of a wait there was left. To some it didn't seem a significant amount of time, but to her, it was going to be a treacherous amount. The thought that she'd be going nearly another month without being able to see him, and after that another month until Christmas break where she'd see him for a couple of weeks, and then it'd go back to this long, sad waiting for stolen time.
"But it's still twenty one monotonous, dry, long, boring days without you," she told him. "And we'll only have that small amount of time together before it's back to such a length of time without seeing you again." Reaching through the gate, she gently stroked his cheek with her fingertips, wanting more than just the time he could give her that day.

Given a few moments, he would be able to tell her that it was 496 hours and 37 minutes until the next time they'd see each other, but at the moment he was too busy thinking about the feel of her hand against his cheek. He sighed and smiled, thinking it was like a little bit of heaven. More than anything he wanted to grab her up in his arms, but the best he could do was turn his head slightly to lightly kiss her palm.
"I miss you so much," he said again, and though he knew he had said it before, he felt like he needed to say it again.

The light pressure of his lips against her palm made her smile, but also wish they didn't have to meet this particular way either. It wasn't fair, not that it seemed much in her life was. "Me too," she answered softly. There had to be a better way to meet; the picnic idea was superb, the fact he was there was better, but it be grande if he could be right next to her, no barriers keeping them apart.
"How is your Aunt?" she asked casually, hoping to maybe distract herself from how lonely she felt without him by her side as she'd become accustomed to. And though she asked of the well being of his family, she wanted more to know of hers. How was her mum truly doing? Having decided to give into what was taking her. It was a silly and foolish choice, but one her mum was determined to stick to. Everyone needed her, but no one could convince her she needed to pick an alternative route.

"She's good," Drew answered, keeping his position with his forehead against the fence. More than anything he wanted to be next to her and he knew that this was as close as he could get. "She's owled your mum a few times, on the pretense of needing herbs, but I know she really likes hanging out with her." He smiled, thinking it funny that the two older ladies would "hang out," but what else would you call sitting around, drinking tea, and talking?
"I've been trying to get your cousins to show me how to play cricket," he told her. If he was going to be in Great Britian, he figured he'd better learn. "I'm kind of hoping it will get your dad to ease up on me a little, but we haven't really had a chance to do much yet."

A small laughter was expressed at the thought of the two older woman "hanging out" as Drew said. Honestly, she knew her mum enjoyed his Aunt's company, not only was she well informed in Herbology, but she was well informed of the Wizarding World and could bring her the news others could not. Sure her mum had other friends of magical heritage, but they mostly feared her father's reactions to the magical news they brought, therefore they tended to stick to safer topics, such as the weather.
"Cricket? That must be fun," she made a face at him. It'd never been one of her favourite sports. "You should teach them Quidditch instead, they'd have a lot more fun," she winked at him. Though she knew he could explain the sport, maybe show them pictures, her cousins would never understand the thrill of the game. Soccer might be more safe of a sport, they enjoyed it, it was exhilarating, and a lot of pride came from playing it. "How is that going with dad?" she questioned. "Is there much progress?"
Felicity's hopes weren't set too high with that, but she did pray he'd give her boyfriend another thought. Drew was amazingly wonderful, she wanted him to see that too.

Drew smiled at the idea of teaching them Quidditch. Even if he could show them how to fly brooms, he'd probably get in heaps of trouble for not just breaking the Statute of Secrecy, but totally destroying it. It would be pretty cool though, not only to hang out with her cousins, but to actually get to play the game again. It was awfully hard to find people willing to start a pick-up game when you were trying to be a grown-up.
"Your dad's doing okay," Drew answered with a small shrug, knowing darn well that wasn't what she had asked. Drew couldn't help but feel like things had gotten worse without Felicity as a buffer and while her dad hadn't really done anything Drew could pinpoint, the mood just seemed a lot colder when they were in the same room. The only thing that made it easier was Mrs. Hjort. "Your mom's doing okay. She seems really tired, but still good."

Giving Drew a look, the one saying he didn't answer her question, the expression on her face rapidly changed when he spoke of her mum. The letters the woman wrote were full of life, the same vibrant writings she sent her youngest daughter all the time, but Felicity suspected her mum wasn't being completely honest. Not that the older woman was being dishonest, more that she was doing what Drew liked to do, omit bits of truth to make things not seem as they really are. Her mum was telling the truth on how she was and certain activities taking place around her, but she wasn't giving Felicity the full extent of everything.
"She's not just putting on a face?" It was one of her mum's ways of pretending nothing was wrong, and though she couldn't lie (just like the young blonde) she was a pretty good actress. If she put on a good enough show, no one dared to ask her directly what was wrong; that was more Felicity's and her siblings area of expertise.

Drew wasn't exactly sure how to answer that one. Felicity's mum seemed to be doing okay, doing all the things she usually did: laughing, cooking, gardening, telling him to eat more. But Drew really didn't know her well enough to make the call if she was faking it or not.
"I don't know," he answered softly, trying to smile but just feeling embarassed by his inability to answer. "She doesn't really... look sick... or act sick. She just seems really tired. I try to help out a lot when I'm there, but she doesn't always let me."

"That's because you're a guest," Felicity readily supplied an answer she figured he'd all ready guessed. "Even though you've been over there so many times and have helped in the past, you're still a guest to her." But even Drew's simple answer was enough for Felicity to know her mum was merely playing a part. The woman was too proud to admit to someone who wasn't Ib how she was really feeling. "And I bet she absolutely adores you being there when you can be, she loved having you over when I was home too. Something about how you'd eat anything she sat in front of you and you could easily help me clean out the refrigerator when we were hungry..."
Smiling as easily as she could, Felicity hoped Drew didn't feel bad though his expression was saying he did. As long as he kept visiting the older woman, Felicity was sure her mum would be happy. The fact that Drew could provide Felicity with a little information about her mum, and Drew could give her mum information about the Wizarding World and about her youngest daughter as well.

"But, I can still help out," Drew answered with a hint of a smirk. "Guests can help out... and besides, it's not like I'm a real guest... am I?" He hadn't been too worried about that being the real problem until she had actually said it. He knew he wasn't actually family, but he had been hoping he had moved past being just a guest. The realization that he might not have was a bit disappointing. He had always felt like another son when he was around Mrs. Hjort, and while he knew he wasn't actually, it was still disappointing.

"No," she giggled softly, knowing she'd used the wrong choice of words. "You're not like a real guest, but you are one all the same. You don't live there, though I think if you asked mum would gladly set up a room for you." Smiling at Drew, she knew just how much her dad would love that idea. Enough to likely kick Drew out the door, tell him to go to... well, there with his relationship with Ib's daughter, and then spit on him just to boot. "She loves having you stop in, she writes me all the time about it. How much she enjoys your company and the talks you two have. It gives her spirit."
But it wasn't just her mum who liked his presence, her cousins raved over him for the most part. They liked that he stopped in even if Felicity wasn't home, and from what Lindsay had told her Cherry was beginning to warm back up to Drew the tiniest bit again.
"You're kind of like distant family who doesn't live in the house, but you stop in enough you may as well have a standing invitation to eat, drink, and be merry."

Not that he'd ever need to, much less ask to stay there, he felt better knowing he'd always have a place at the Hjorts if he needed one... even if it was only Felicity who believed it to be so. He was certainly sure Ib Hjort would think differently, but with Felicity's assurances , he felt better that Mrs. Hjort didn't think he was just another guest in the house.
He smiled as she explained the situation, feeling more confident that he had a place, and actually belonged in the Hjort household. "I think I can handle that," he answered with a smile. "As long as it's really, really distant family," he told her with one of his crooked grins. One day, he was sure, he'd really actually be family. Until then, the analogy would work for him.

Grinning in response Felicity wholeheartedly agreed with his statement. He was family in the sense he'd spent the last two years with Felicity and didn't seem to be going anywhere else. That was good enough in most cases to consider him a part of the family, and it was enough for her mum to think of him as extended family, someone who spent lots of time with the regular family though he wasn't related by any means. In fact, Felicity was sure the only American her family was related to was a distant cousin living somewhere in the United States of America, other than that her entire family lived in the Great Britain area, except a few here and there around Europe.
The only thing about their current topic of conversation that bothered the pretty blonde was she knew his family didn't think of her that way, and she had a strong suspicion his mum never wanted to think of her that way...ever.

He absolutely adored that smile of hers, feeling like it brightened up the drizzly autumn dusk like a midsummer morning. Once again, he wished that the damned fence wasn't between them so he could kiss her good and properly.
It took him a moment to recover from the butterflies in his gut that threatened to take over when she looked at him like that. "Should we eat?" he suggested, wishing that there was some way they could just skip dinner and just focus on dessert. He considered bypassing the securities of the castle and just barging through the forest, but really didn't feel like subjecting her to kissing him when he smelled like bear.
